I have determined that my shoulder issue began a few months after I got my iPad (actually, I think Mike figured it out after watching me one evening). I type my blog on it everyday, and I do not have a keyboard, so some of the positions that I have gotten myself into while blogging and typing on the iPad, are causing my body some major issues. How ridiculous is that?
At my physical therapy appointment last night, we went over proper physical positioning for typing while sitting at a desk or table! What? No cozy comfy couch blogging? This is terrible news!
I am one of those people that carries stress in my neck and shoulders, and that hasn’t helped anything either!
Driving on the highway? I would almost rather be stuck in an elevator, and I am totally claustrophobic. I was in a bad accident, as the passenger, when I was 19, so I make a terrible passenger. I have learned to keep quiet, for the most part, as a passenger, but I am a tense mess until we get to our destination. I have hit more than my share of animals on the roads, so really, needless to say, driving has become a bit stressful, but it seems necessary if I want to get out of the the house. Did I mention the claustrophobia?
I can’t seem to watch a TV show without my entire body tensing up! Sports? Forget it! I just want to tackle the guy myself! Dancing with the Stars? Oh, I wish I were famous so I could be ON THAT SHOW! A crime show where you KNOW the killer is behind that door! Eeeeekkkkkkk! Yip, I am a ridiculous tense mess!
So, two mornings after I woke up with this stupid stiff neck in AUGUST, I drove an hour and a half to see my daughter in the hospital, then slept in a BAD hospital bed for two nights. The driving and the bad bed helped nothing.
Recently, I went to see my daughter again, drove to Wichita to visit an Aunt, (slept like a baby at her house…….could have been because no dogs were on my head or between my legs), rode as the passenger on mostly two lane roads Wednesday for over two hours. So……….my neck is a tight, tight mess!
Guess what we are doing this weekend?? Highway Driving! We are leaving early Friday morning with two other couples to head down the highway for an eight hour drive to Memphis. We are meeting other friends there too and I know we are going to get crazy! So I am excited for the trip, but must admit, not excited about the driving. I am pretty sure a Bloody Mary might relax me a bit……..or Advil PM.
Wednesday was anything but ordinary.
We had a funeral to go to, and we needed to leave fairly early in the morning. I can’t take a road trip without a coffee, so we grabbed a quick breakfast at Quiktrip on the way out of town. After the funeral, the family all gathered at the Church for lunch. We were in a very small Kansas town, and Mike comes from a big Catholic family on his moms side. That said, funeral lunches are very traditional and served at the church by volunteers. Lots of meat for sandwiches, potato and pasta salads, chips and veggies, coffee and tea, and lots of PIE!
Later in the evening, after the drive home, we took our son and daughter-in-law out to dinner for our sons Birthday! There is this little Mexican restaurant close to home that he picked for dinner. It was where he had his first job as a bus boy. He also took his wife there for his first date! So cute.
That wraps up a long emotional day………

Just not a great week. Okay. Not a great Three Weeks. Leaving too early Friday morning to make my WW meeting. I plan to have a great weekend, but be cautious. I know there a lot of WW members that are able to count points on vacation and journal their food. I have never done that. I will make healthy choices when we eat out, but I do know that much of the weekend involves cocktails, other than that? I have no idea what to expect, but FUN!
I hear rumors of food, fun, street performers and live music!

On Wednesdays, I work for a friend who owns a Food Truck, Beauty Of The Bistro. She serves up a dish called “Cowboy Skillet”. I think the spices are a secret, but it’s roasted veggies, lots of them, mixed with Chicken and Sausage. It’s one of my favorites. Tonight I made my own version, but it wasn’t near as tasty as hers.

Todays post is totally boring…….

I have been a little off, and things have been a bit busier than usual……and I have let the busy get in the way of planning, which is such a key in a healthy routine.

Although the days eats were not at the top of my list for favorites, I made pretty good choices, but lacked in the veggie department.

I baked these Basil Pesto Chicken Breast before I went to Bootcamp.

When I got home, I chopped them up…….

Then I microwaved a bag of Broccoli and a bag of Potatoes……

And mixed it all up! Half for me, half for Mike.

It actually all tasted pretty good together. Not my meal of choice, but for a late, easy dinner, not too bad. Mike said he would eat it again. He always compliments dinner……even out of a microwave bag……I love that man.

Saturday and Sunday, I was so focused on family and friends, I didn’t pay much attention to food…..or taking many pictures……so today’s post is mostly how I spent my weekend, and less about what I ate and it’s PPV.

(I have not been diligent at all about posting my actual food and points eaten, and I know I am getting myself into trouble here. Bare with me. I mention it because I don’t want anyone to think that I think I am getting away with something. I was up FOUR pounds at Fridays weigh in, 169.6. I am still out of the 170’s, but barely!)

Friday was a great night with Tess and her friends here at the house eating Chili and Chicken Corn Chowder and rinsing it down with a few cold beers. (I had two beers.) I had a good time listening to them talk about graduating, job hunting, stories about friends, and watching the Ping Pong game later in the evening.

Saturday morning, I had them back in the kitchen filling up on a big Skillet Breakfast Scramble, Biscuits, Bagels and coffee.

I had a banana and coffee before I cooked up the really good stuff.

Half asleep, the kids that slept over sat at the bar and had breakfast while prepping for the big Pitt State game at Arrowhead Stadium.


It was really dreary outside, so they spent the morning discussing their lack of Rain Gear……

๐Ÿ™‚ Kids.

I had heard about the Thomas Pumpkin Bagels………then I came upon them at the store…….


I toasted them, topped them with Laughing Cow Cinnamon Cream Cheese and Pumpkin Butter!

Yuuuuuummmmmmmmm………

I decided to share mine so I could enjoy a bit of my Skillet Scramble……which is Potatoes…..Bacon Pieces……Turkey Sausage……Eggs……and Cheese!


I cleaned up the mess, and the kids headed out to enjoy some Football in the RAIN…….(they lost).

I was taking an Overnight trip to visit an Aunt, and I was not excited to be driving over three hours in the rain, so I did my best to talk myself into a calm state, grabbed a coffee at Quiktrip (half Pumpkin cappacino, half coffee), popped in a few favorite CD’s and headed down the Interstate in the rain.

I ate this for lunch.

I hit a few heavy spots of rain on my road trip, but it wasn’t too bad. I have become this person that despises driving long distances. I think I have hit so many animals on the highway, that I am just so nervous and anxious that it is going to happen again, I can’t seem to relax! The rain DOES NOT HELP!

I arrived at my destination successfully. The drive took about 3 1/2 hours. I was visiting an Aunt I hadn’t seen in over 25 years. She moved a little closer to me about a year ago, and we knew eventually we would plan a visit. We had a great time together, and it had been WAY too long! She was exactly how I remembered her, and she made me laugh exactly like she did when I was a kid. We spent hours into the evening getting caught up, I spent the night, then we started all over again in the morning. We got a lot of stories in, and had some good laughs too.

Sunday morning was filled with sunshine, no rain or rain clouds in sight, so I decided to not think about any deer running out in front of me, and attempt to make my drive home as stress free as possible. While visiting my Aunt, she gave me a ring that belonged to my Grandma……

I wore it on my drive home. It brought back a lot of great memories, and it was so nice to visit all of those great memories.

My grandma passed away a little over three years ago at the age of 92. Since I was close to the cemetery, I decided to make a visit. My grandma is buried by my twin sisters that died before I was born. Although they only lived one short day, I like to think they are guardian angels for my dad, my mom, my brother and myself. My brother was only two when they were born.

When I got home, Tess had the Chicken Corn Chowder warming up on the stove, and the house smelled great! She and her friends were watching football in the living room, Mike was working in the yard, the dogs were barking like crazy, and as much fun as I had visiting my Aunt, it felt great to be home.

I had a bowl of chowder for lunch, and another for dinner. By 8:00 pm, I had gotten in a 45 minute walk with Tucker, Tess and her friends had headed back to Pitt…….the dogs were curled up on the couch……and Mike and I were in PJ’s ready to watch The Good Wife.

It’s going to be a really crazy week. It’s just one of those weeks where there are things on the calendar every day, and most evenings. We are going out of town early Friday morning, and returning late Sunday. I have my exercise all planned out, but have not yet taken the time to meal plan, so that is on the Monday agenda at some point.

It was a great weekend, and I am looking forward to spending next weekend with Mike and some great friends.

Dinner = 22 (chili, beer, pumpkin cake)

Here is what I used.

1 Box Yellow Cake Mix
1 Can Pumpkin

Mix…….

Mix really, really well……..

Pour into a greased baking dish. It is super thick!

Bake at 350 for 22-28 minutes……

Cool 10 minutes, then turn upside down onto a serving platter.

Mix 1 1/4 C powdered sugar
3/4 t Pumpkin Pie Spice
3 T liquid (I used skim milk)

Pour over cake.

EAT!

Ahhhhhhhhh………

I couldn’t think of a better way to start off my day.

Another New Item! I will never tire of Pumpkin ANYTHING!

Then I added my Oatmeal Pancake topped with Better N Peanut Butter and a sliced Banana!

My fav……..

My expression and the bad ass black tape on my neck sum up my entire week…….and the rest of my day………I spent most of the week in pain, and I ate like nothing had a Point Value at all. (But seriously, my hair looked cute almost every day.)

My day was filled with mindless/stress eating.

They say……

You are what you eat?

I ate junk, and the rest of the day, I felt like junk. I feel heavy.

My Friday Reflection should be interesting………I did not weigh in last week, and the week before that was my lowest weigh in EVER! I know that some of it is back. Stepping on that damn scale can be so hard sometimes. I let stress and obstacles take over the last two weeks. That really pisses me off too!

When I’m pissed at myself, I give myself the advice I would give someone else in my situation.

“Julie. You should be proud of yourself for the success you have achieved in your weight loss. You joined WW over three years ago, and this is the longest you have ever stayed. You know you made the commitment to be a WW Member as long as WW exist. Although you struggle with stress eating, you are aware of it, and you know by going to the meetings, you will immediately get back on track and continue on your journey. Do not be discouraged. Do not focus on your “off” week. Focus on your successes. You are back at Bootcamp and you made a one year commitment to do that! That is awesome. YOU are awesome. Now…….go to your meeting on Friday, even though I know you are considering NOT going, step on that scale, and do what needs to be done!”

Yip. That is totally what I would say to someone else.

I guess there will be no need for a Friday Reflection. I think I just did it.

I will post my food though for Friday. I am having a houseful of college kids overnight. My house will be full of junk food and beer. I will NOT go over my points, and I will journal ALL of my food and drink.

A Puppuccino???

I was reading a food blog yesterday……yes, it’s an addiction…….and the blogger had blogged about taking her pup through the Starbucks Drive Thru where they offer up Whipped Cream for the Pups and call them Puppuccinos!!!

Well, only the best for my little buddy! So we jumped in the car and headed out for a Starbucks treat! I just about jumped the curb trying to get out of the drive thru before he was all over me trying to get to his Puppuccino! I had to pull over so the little guy could inhale, then he thanked me! (No, I will not make a habit of this, but it made a great story for the day, and it’s fun to make my husband shake his head at me when he comes home from a long day at work.)

Then he was off to the spa for a nail clipping and a bath (the dog, not the husband). He really does have a great life. (The dog AND the husband. They have me, right?)
It was only after taking this picture, that I realized we were both in White and Orange…..no joke.

I would take Mishka to the spa, but she prefers to bathe at home…..the old lady doesn’t like a car ride either………Yes….I love her just as much as I love him, although she NEVER smiles for me! She’s mad at me for waking her up to take her picture.

My morning started off rolling out of bed at 5:45, I dressed while still asleep, ate a yogurt with one eye opened………..

……..then drove to my 6:30 am Bootcamp, with both eyes partially opened.
When I pulled into the parking lot, it was packed! I like to get there early so I have plenty of options of where I’d like to “set up”, so I couldn’t believe how many people were already there! Sometimes I feel super strong and energetic, and I want to be in the front row! Other times, it’s a bad hair day and I choose the back row. Well, it didn’t seem to matter, because the packed parking lot were all of the cars from the 5:30 am class, and they quickly cleared out. I was beginning to think I would be solo in my class. Luckily, there was one other person that preferred 6:30 over 5:30. I am used to the room being full, but I must admit, with my shoulder and neck issue, and needing to do a lot of modified exercises, it was nice to have only the two of us in the class and have the opportunity for a little one on one advice. (I must have done all of my ab exercises properly, because it hurt really bad to sit up and get out of bed this morning!)
I remembered too, how great I feel when I get an early start to my day, especially when that early start involves exercise. I can’t believe how much I accomplished before 9:00 am!
I did a little grocery shopping after Bootcamp and found some new items……
This was a flavor I hadn’t seen before. They make a great “to go” snack with an apple. I like the Jalapeรฑo option!

Then, I discovered these! Apple Cinnamon and Chocolate. I have had them before, but forgot I liked them so much. Both flavors are 3 PPV per serving. A serving size is 13 chips! I had a serving of each!

Later in the afternoon, I took a second grocery trip for a few Fall Decorations! They are soooo cute!

I also stopped at the salad bar……..mostly fruit and veggies, with a few cheese tortellini tossed in!

Dinner was Turkey Burgers (bunless), broccoli and Baked Smashed Potatoes. Click HERE for the potato recipe!
You KNOW I found this on Pinterest. I love a potato, anyway you fix it, and this one sounded so good. Salty and Crispy!
Boil some potatoes……..then smash them on a cookie sheet drizzled with Olive Oil. Season with Salt and Pepper and whatever else you want. Add a little Olive Oil drizzle…….

Bake…….until crispy.

Yes. They are beautiful.

Then I caramelized a few red onions to top the Burgers with…..

They really make the burger……..

I grilled inside……the house will stink for two days……..

But it was worth it…….

Monday ended with Bootcamp and a hot shower. Tuesday began with a hot shower, then Physical Therapy. Ouch. I was there for an hour and she worked over my shoulders and neck muscles like crazy! At the end she added this tape. I noticed some of the gymnast used it during the Olympics. Makes me wanna walk the balance beam, or perform a floor routine. How bad could THAT hurt??? A girl can dream……….

I leave it on for three to five days……

I think I look like a bad ass……..
