National Running Day!

Procrastinating

Did you know that yesterday was National Running Day? It seems we have a day for pretty much everything now. I must admit, It did feel good to find out it was National Running Day and know that I would be running! No excuses this whole month! ONE mile every day!

Now…..I KNOW that it is best for me to exercise first thing in the morning, and why I refuse to make that a habit, I may never know. Yesterday, the day just kept creeping away from me until I realized, I was going to be running in the dark! I hate that! If I’m not fearing the bogey man, I’m wondering what animal I’m going to come upon that is going to scare the wholly crap out of me! But, I headed out the door with Tucker on his 15′ training leash, thinking I could kill two birds with one stone. He would get some training in, and I could run my mile. Well, running with a traditional leash and doing all the things I am supposed to be doing with Tucker and the leash for training purposes, wasn’t happening, so we got in a nice fast 1.4 mile walk, and I came home. I dropped off Tucker and headed back out. It was now 9:30. Typically, I’m really close to climbing in bed by then. Mike was already IN bed. As I headed down the path through the neighborhood, I thought about the boogey man and wild animals, so I ran faster. After reaching the top of that dreaded sidewalk hill that is a part of my route, I didn’t stop. I kept running! I actually have to run past five driveways after reaching the top of that hill before my ONE mile route is officially over. When I got to the fifth house, I stopped. I was panting and huffing and puffing like crazy! I was spitting and spatting as though I’d just finished a Tri-Athalon!! It was kind of ridiculous, but I was also smiling from ear to ear. Just a few months ago, I would NEVER had made the choice to RUN a mile and include a hill in that mile. And just last week, I stopped before I got to the top of that hill. The first day that I DID run to the top of the hill, I stopped for a short break as soon as I got to the top. In the end, I hated running at 9:30, but running ONE mile a day is making me stronger and it felt great to run to the top of that hill, and just keep on running, even if I did almost pass out! 🙂

Stop and Smell the Roses….Again

While making my coffee one morning this week, (not breakfast in today’s post) I realized that I had quickly gotten back to that “rush, rush, rush” mode again and that I needed to S L O W down. At the very second that I was thinking that, I was hurriedly slicing a banana when half of it literally fell off, plopping into my cup of coffee that I had just made. So I slowed down. 🙂
