A Great Weight Watcher Day!

September 30, 2014

It was a great day as a WW Member.

My day began with a 6.2 mile walk with a friend!

IMG_1050

After my walk, I met a friend for an early lunch at Panera. I ordered the Pick Two, 1/2 a Fuji Apple Salad and the bowl of Butternut Squash Ravioli. The bowl was of Ravioli was HUGE and I couldn’t find the points value online anywhere, so I only ate five of them. They were delicious! Only eating five of those ravioli was probably the most difficult thing I did all day long! But I did it! 🙂

After lunch, I ran LOTS of errands, then I began to put back together my bedroom. I am way more pleased with it than I was expecting to be. As I was painting, I was questioning my simple color choice, but I really think I am going to like it! I should be done with it all by the end of today! Pictures tomorrow!

Here are yesterday’s eats!

1 Packet of Weight Watcher’s Vanilla Smoothie Mix

1 Cup of cold water

Dinner

Quinoa Bowl

I sautéed zucchini, sliced mushrooms and shredded carrots in a little Butter infused Olive Oil. After the veggies softened up a bit,  I added some rotisserie chicken and chicken broth. After that simmered for a few minutes, I added cooked quinoa and enough Laughing Cow Cheese Wedges to make it nice and creamy. Keeping cooked quinoa on hand and grabbing a rotisserie chicken can make for a quick and tasty dinner!

A Busy Sunday

September 30, 2014

I spent the first part of the day painting my bedroom, and the second part of the day working at the Food Truck at a Church Festival. It was a full and busy day, and I almost forgot to eat! That seriously NEVER happens!

I am paining my bedroom a cream color, and I am painting it over a deep red. This paint job also includes the ceiling. After getting the four walls done and about a 1/3 of the ceiling done, it was time to clean up and head out to work. When I came home, Mike had finished the ceiling for me! I was ecstatic!!  A girl can only paint so much!

I am hoping to spend the next two days finishing up all of the extra’s. I have a curtain rod to paint, the toilet room to paint, curtains to hang, and pictures to hang. I’m excited for this project to be complete!

I really need to go to the store today. My menu was limited yesterday based on what I could find in the house!

Weight Watcher’s

At my meeting last week, I weighed 172.

One year ago, I got down to 154. I had been slowly losing weight for four years. I had plateaued several times, but never gained more than 3 or 4 pounds.

After reaching a weight of 154, slowly, I was back at 160, then IN the 160’s. I hung out in the upper 160’s for a long time, and now this.

It’s tough to write this blog sometimes. I have readers that I am trying to inspire and motivate to live healthy. I don’t like to let anyone down.

I have people reading the blog that know me personally, and gaining weight back, frankly….is embarrassing.

But, the whole idea behind the blog, was to share my story, struggles and all. Over the last five years, this is the first time that I’ve had a gain that has lasted so long. Although I know this happens with other people that lose weight too, it is frustrating. I want to tell myself that I’ve learned how to keep those pounds off. I want to be proud of my accomplishments, and I want to move forward, not backwards.

Looking back over my blog post, I made sacrifices to get to 154, and it wasn’t always easy. A lot of those sacrifices are things that helped me to get the weight off, but will also help me to KEEP the weight off. I need to always remember that. It is NOT a diet. It IS a lifestyle. I will not always be able to eat or drink whatever I want and keep the weight off. I have to have limits.

I see the weight gain in my face and arms, and I don’t like it. Scale or no scale, I’m not liking the face I see in the mirror.

I’m going to take things one week at a time. It works for me. Long term goals do not. I need to focus on one pound at a time right now, and one week at a time.

So here is the plan for this week!

Food and Fitness Goals for THIS Week!

I will have only 26 Points per day.

I will walk 20 Miles this week.

I will attend 1 Yoga class this week.

I will drink 10 (8 oz) Glasses of water each day.

I will NOT eat earned activity points.

I will NOT dip into my allowed 49 Points.

Now….The Parade!!

Last year, my dad and I worked hard on a float for the Annual Downtown Overland Park Parade. You can read all about it in my post,  Feeling the Fall Season.

On the morning of the parade last year, a thunderstorm rolled in, and the parade was cancelled! So, our little float has been patiently waiting in my dad’s barn for an entire year.

Yesterday? We got to be in the parade!

I went over early and we started getting things together. I had kinda missed my little friends!

IMG_0958

Dad decided at the last minute, to let his pet duck, Charlie, ride along with him in the cab of the truck. We were initially going to pull our float with dad’s tractor, but I think he wanted Charlie in the parade too! That man loves this duck!! He even built him a seat in the truck that included a water tray!

I got in the wagon to see how comfortable I was going to be, when dad noticed that we had a flat tire. We got out the air compressor and that problem was solved. We were finally ready to go, when dad informed me that I would be riding through town on the way to the parade route in the big Radio Flyer wagon so Charlie could ride up front with him!

As we pulled out of dad’s driveway and headed down the street, I realized just how silly he and I can be sometimes, and I thought I must look crazy in my blonde wig, pigtails and overalls riding down the street in this over sized Radio Flyer Wagon!

IMG_0950

As I was thinking about how grateful I am for this silliness that he has passed on to me, I felt something awful and I thought that the tire was flat again! Worse! When I looked over the side of my big red wagon, the WHEEL was falling off! I started yelling and had my hands flailing all over the place!

Dad stopped, got out and came back. We had lost three of the five bolts! He asked me to RUN down and get his neighbor, Dale. So I did. I ran down the street in my overall’s, blond wig with pigtails, and straw hat. Yep. I did. As I ran BACK to the wagon, I see my dad carrying Charlie, and I assumed he had let him walk around in the grass while I was chasing down Dale. But nope. Charlie had flown out of the driver’s side window! Dad had to chase him down.

Dale brought us a jack and a tool box, Charlie got back in the cab, I got back in my wagon, and we were on our way. I still wasn’t sure the parade was going to happen for us.

IMG_2331

We made it through town without any other problems, and I practiced waving at the people staring at me!

We lined up with everyone else and had a few really interesting conversations with parade spectators! I guess our theme was a bit confusing. I explained that really, our only theme was to have fun, no matter what age you are! Oh, and Dad’s into miniatures um…and ducks….among many other interest! Have I ever told you that he has over 2500 elephants in his house???

I could feel the parade excitement, and I could tell that my dad could feel it too! Now we were just hoping that Tiny Dreamer would hold on through the entire parade route! Can you see the even smaller wagon on top of Tiny Dreamer’s sign??? My dad just never stops! 🙂

IMG_2330

The parade was great! I heard all sorts of funny things! People were mostly yelling….

“Look, there’s a REAL duck in that truck!”

I also heard…

“That’s so cute!”

“Look at that big wagon!”

“Love the old truck!”

Then I heard from a girl, around 8 or 9. “OMG! That’s Creepy!” I couldn’t stop laughing.

I am going to assume she meant the Junior Dreamer behind me, and not me.

IMG_2332

It was a great day in the parade!

I came home and planned out the rest of the day! I was in desperate need of new walking shoes! So I went and bought myself some!

IMG_2329

After my 5 mile walk, I spent more time than I should have chillin’ with a neighbor in the driveway, but it felt good to relax. Then I came home and got back at painting my bedroom.

I’ve got lots of painting left to do, so I’ll leave my last 11 miles for the last two days of the month!

Have a happy and healthy day!

A Squashy Day…….

September 26, 2014

Before I talk squash, the “Walking 100 Miles in September” challenge is winding down. I’ve liked this challenge for a few different reasons. It’s always nice to have a goal and chart it in one way or another. I’ve charted my progress on Instagram, and the accountability has been good for me because I have felt obligated to post my accomplishments! There are days that I walked, that I know that I wouldn’t have, had I not made the challenge for myself. Last night is a perfect example. It was long day and it was 8:00 pm before I had a chance to get any walking in, but I knew I had to get some miles in, so I took Tucker and we headed out the door!

IMG_0919

This morning I was able to get my walk in with some friends first thing!

IMG_0931

Four more days and 16 Miles to go! Have YOU made a fitness goal? I’d love to hear what it is!

Now squashy stuff….

I cooked up some spaghetti squash on Wednesday night…..

CrAZy or not, I’m still here!

September 25, 2014

Nothing super exciting happened yesterday, thank goodness. I’m still alive, however there was a suspicious looking man sitting on a park bench as I walked around the neighborhood lake yesterday that I was OVERLY aware of. If you missed yesterday’s post, you would need to read that for this to make any sense at all. It’s titled, Yesterday, I Was the CrAZy One!

I’m headed out to the new IKEA store in just a bit to shop for accessories for the Master. The painting has begun and I hope to have it all finished this weekend! Geesshhhh. Finally!

The house is all painted and now I actually wish I would have painted the front door a different color! Dang it! Maybe some Fall Decor on the porch will change my mind about that. I’ll eventually take a picture. 🙂

My Walking Challenge is winding down, and it was absolutely beautiful outside yesterday!

“love the life you live, live the life you love”

I think I might be CrAZy…..

I’m not sure if I have unusual things happen to me, or if I make things that happen to me become unusual? Maybe a little bit of both.

When I was a kid, I had the dad that yelled at the teenage driver speeding down the street….”Slow Down!”…So I do that too.

Ten years ago, or so, as a driver was speeding by, I threw a full cup of water in his window. He hit the brakes and backed up and questioned me. I reminded him that he was in a neighborhood and that driving as fast as he was driving was NOT SAFE! He drove away and flipped me off. Punk.

Around the same time, I was mowing in my backyard in the middle of the afternoon, and my daughter was playing at a neighbors house a few doors down. I look up to see a man (who I later found out was a teenage boy) completely naked except for his tennis shoes and baseball hat, streaking through the backyards in the direction of the house that my daughter was at! I ran inside, called 911, then took off on foot after the streaker! Yip, I did that. I didn’t catch him, but the cops did. Telling that story still cracks me up, because the kid was probably on the track team or something, and how I thought I would catch him, or what I would do with the punk when I did catch him….who knows. I thought I was saving my daughter from a child molester you guys!!!

I also had the dad that tapped his brakes to the driver behind him that was too close for comfort. So I do that too, although not as often as I used to. I’m afraid someone might shoot me!

I had the dad that liked to mow the yard in weird designs. Occasionally I like to mow a circle around the tree in the front yard, and then I just continue the circle! No harm here, I just look crazy. You guys…..I might be.

Here’s what I did yesterday. I mean, here’s what happened to me yesterday.

I came home from working at the Food Truck to two messages on my answering machine. Here is what the message said, in a thick Indian accent……Oh…and he said his name was Steve Martin!!

“Hi this message is intended to contact you. My name is Steve Martin and I’m calling regarding the enforcement actions executed by US Treasury in getting your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intention of taking it down toward initial appearance before magistrate-judge-of-the-grand jury for a federal criminal offense. My number is530-532-2612. Again 530-532-2612. I advise you to cooperate with us and help us to help you. Thanks.”

I knew it was a scam, and it pisses me off, so I called them back. They asked me my name. I’m like, if you called me, then you should know my name. Then he rattled off my name and address! So I hung up and called the police, and they told me that I could file a complaint with the Attorney General.

Then I called Steve Martin back!

I said something like this…..

“So you ARE with the US Treasury Department?” He said yes and gave me an employee ID number, to which I replied….”REALLY? Because I just called the police and they verified that this is a scam, and I think that’s not nice for you to be trying to scam people and I think you need to stop!”

Here is where I wanted to say something like….let’s pray together, and maybe you can find God, and that will help you be a better person and find a legitimate job. But then he said…….

“What are you doing tomorrow?”

I said….”Huh? NOT what YOU are doing!”

Then Steve Martin said….”WHAT are you doing tomorrow?

Then I hung up! All I was thinking was…..he knows where I live, and he’s going to find me! I called Mike. I’m like…uh….I think I just did something stupid. Then I shared my story. Then I asked Mike if he thought the guy was coming after me??? Mike laughed. How rude.

If I stop blogging tomorrow, please look for Steve Martin. He lives somewhere in California!

After that, I opened the wine and called girlfriends for backup support!

That explains dinner!

Busy….Crazy….Busy…

September 23, 2014

(If you received a partial post with this same title yesterday, I apologize. I accidentally hit “publish” before I was even close to being done with my blog post!)

Yesterday was crazy and busy. Here’s a breakdown of the crazy events.

The morning started out with some guy was on the loose with a gun, close enough to my neighborhood that the schools were on lockdown and no one was walking the trails.

I ended up in morning traffic on the Interstate. I remained patient and calm until two different drivers behind me wanted to get a little too close for my comfort level. I  mumbled four letter words to myself and tapped my breaks! I eventually and safely made it to the dealership to get my oil changed and my tires rotated while I enjoyed a Starbuck’s next door and some good people watching.

Then I went grocery shopping and I ate ALL of the chocolate covered almonds that I had bought from the bulk area. When I looked up the points according to the weight of the bag, it was 14 POINTS!!

I bought lots of produce to go with my bulk chocolate covered almonds!

IMG_0817

Tucker got out in the afternoon, and I had to go hunt him down. I took off down the street with some chicken, yelling “Tucker! Treat! Tucker! Treat!”

Three doors down, there were several painters working away in the garage. I noticed the door to the house was open and it appeared they were painting inside the house too. I passed the house, and thought nothing of it. Then I came back and asked….

“Have you guys seen a little white dog?”

One of them replied. “Yeah. He went in the house.”

I’m like….uh…..did ya not notice me a few seconds ago hollering “Treat” as I walked across the lawn?”

Anyhow, they invited me and Mishka in, and we eventually found Tucker in the basement. Silly mutt!

I decided that yesterday was the day that I would get started painting my bedroom! I filled holes, I washed the walls, and I got the paint out!

I took a break in the middle of painting and met a friend to walk for a few miles.

IMG_0832

When I came home, my garage door spring broke! The door lifted about 4 inches on one side. My neighbor jacked up one side about 10 inches, and after promising me that the door would not fall on me,  I shimmied on my belly under the door. I was having a kick ass day!

Mike came home and hung shutters on the window above the garage! I have wanted shutters somewhere on our house for a long time! Watching Mike on the ladder as I leaned out of the window to help him, scared the crap out of me. But the shutters are hung! As soon as the house is completely painted, I’ll share pictures!

I was exhausted at the end of the day!

They did catch the bad guy a few miles from our neighborhood. But then on the 10:00 news last night, I heard there is some other guy on loose close to our neighborhood! What is happening?????

“love the life you live, live the life you love”

One of the things that helped match me up with my Little Sis, Samone, is the fact that we both like to draw and paint. We both listed it as one of our top favorite things to do! We’ve talked about doing some artsy/craftsy stuff together, but had yet to do so, unless you count painting our nails as artsy/craftsy……and I suppose you could! I had decided that the next time that we got to hang out, we could do a Paint Glaze and Fire type of thing. I haven’t made a gigantic coffee mug in forever, and I love a coffee mug!!

Well, turns out, I had some time available on Sunday that I hadn’t counted on, so Samone and I got to go to the Plaza Art Fair together!

Samone was enjoying looking at the art, but she was enjoying making art even more!

IMG_0784

We stopped at the Keys 4/4 Kids tent. Keys 4/4 Kids is a nonprofit organization that accepts, restores, and sells donated pianos. Proceeds from piano sales support music and arts programs for local youth! You can check out their website by clicking HERE!

They were letting kids paint old piano keys! Samone didn’t waste anytime getting started. It’s like she knew before she sat down exactly what she was going to paint!

IMG_0785

I see now that this turned out a little blurry, darn it! She mixed colors to make a beautiful purple background, then she added grass, a tree trunk, the sun and some flowers. Isn’t it beautiful? They let us hang it up to dry while we checked out some more awesome art and ate lunch. I was glad we remembered to pick it up before we left!

IMG_0786

Next week, I’m painting a coffee mug and Samone says that she is painting a plate!

While walking around the Plaza Art Fair, we stopped for a Starbucks. Me a latte, her a hot tea. There was a bit of a chill in the air, and carrying around a hot drink was comforting. After looking at a little bit of art, Samone spotted a new bakery and she was in the door before I knew it! I can’t remember the name of it, but it smelled delicious and everything was so pretty! Samone asked me if I had ever had a macaroon, and I really wasn’t sure if I had or not! We decided to have one together. There were at least 10 flavors to chose from. She chose pistachio, while I couldn’t resist the banana. We ended up sharing and I loved them both!

How cute is she?

After watching my mom eat French Toast for lunch on Saturday, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. When I woke up on Sunday, I was still thinking about it. I had no slices of bread, and no milk. I made it anyway.  I did have some Light English Muffins, so that’s what I used for my bread. I used 3 Egg Whites, Vanilla and Cinnamon, and the lack of milk didn’t seem to make a difference. Then I poured Warm Cinnamon Apples over it. It….was…..perfect! I added Egg Whites and Cheese to get my protein in!

Saturday was a really good day that included some really good food!

It started off as a really good day because I didn’t crawl out of bed until about 8:30, and I found myself on the couch until about 11:00. The dogs and  I were curled up with a blanket and I was sipping on my frothy coffee, playing sudoku and watching Will and Grace. It was a happy place that I didn’t want to leave. My plan had been to mow the lawn around 9ish, and then get my walk in early. Unfortunately, my butt was stuck to the couch and I didn’t seem to mind much.

I only unstuck my butt from the couch because I had lunch plans with my mom to celebrate her birthday!

When I got home from our lunch, I did get the lawn mowed and I got my walking miles in for the day!

It was a chill night at home, back on the couch, watching a really good movie! We watched “Belle” and it was based on a true story. I’m a sucker for a movie based on a true story, so I was hoping it was gonna be a good one, and it was! If you’re looking for a movie, I highly recommend it!

Here’s all the good stuff that I ate yesterday! It must have been the right balance of foods, because I wasn’t hungry in between meals so I didn’t have a snack.

Breakfast

4 Egg Whites, 2% Sharp Cheddar Cheese Slice, Salsa

Honeycrisp Apple with 1 T. melted Better n’ Peanut Butter

Frothy Coffee

4 PPV

Lunch

Salmon and Kale Salad

with Walnuts and Lemon Vinaigrette Dressing

We stopped at a little place we’d never been to before and we were both really glad that we did. It was called the Tavern in the Village. Mom ordered the Creme Brûlée French Toast and I had the Salmon and Kale Salad. I didn’t eat the bread that came with it. This salad was awesome! I think it was the dressing that did it for me!

I made Mike a skillet with eggs and sausage and cheese, and he kept taking bites off of my plate!

If you’ve never put a wedge of laughing cow cheese in with a little quinoa, you’re missing out! It really is yummy! Think Mac and Cheese.

It’s Gonna Be a Great Week!

It’s Gonna Be a Great Week!

I woke up saying that yesterday morning. I rolled out of bed, l looked in the mirror, I smiled and said…..”It’s gonna be a great week!”

Sometimes that’s all it takes. A little positive self talk.

Things like…..

I’ve got this.

I can do this.

I owe it to myself to be successful.

I deserve to succeed.

I will be strong.

I will make good decisions.

I will treat my body the way that it deserves to be treated.

I am in control of me.

I guess I’m feeling a little determined today to get back to my goal weight. Our meeting yesterday morning was awesome. Three people shared their success stories, and I felt a connection with each of them. It was a great motivator to not only wake up feeling as good as I did, but to then have the opportunity to go to that meeting and listen to all of those wonderful people!

I had a great day that included a 5 mile walk, and I ate light during the day, knowing I would be spending a lot of my points during the evening. We had plans with some friends to go to the Plaza Art Fair, where not only is there a lot of great art to look at, but also lots of food and beer tents to enjoy! I keep going back and forth in my head about only drinking once a week….or not drinking at all for a while….or only having one drink when I decide to have a drink….or never having another drink for the rest of my life! Okay, that’s not really going to happen, but I did enjoy beer and wine and food last night, and I have tracked it all!

I’ve got a long walk planned for today and tomorrow, and I’m working on my menu for the week!

It really is Gonna Be a Great Week!
