The Master Bedroom

I am aware that nobody is nearly as excited to read this post as I am to write it, but I’m so HAPPY with my new Master Bedroom!

We have lived in our house for fifteen years, and I’ve never really loved our bedroom.

1. It’s a big square with really only one option for bed and TV placement.

2. We have never purchased a bedroom set, so the pieces that we do have are completely random and nothing matches.

3. Mike designs cabinets for a living, so he did a great job of making sure we had “built ins” in our closet, so we really have no need to purchase a  chest or a dresser to fill up the big square!

4. There are three large windows along one wall. I originally wanted there to be a window seat, but after the house was built, I realized that I wasn’t real clear on “window seat”. It’s about 10″ deep, and I personally don’t know a butt that would be able to “sit” there.

5. I want the bedroom to be this awesome place that I’m excited to retreat to, but I don’t like to spend a lot of money.

So, those are the bedroom obstacles.

That being said, I never really know what to do with this big square?

A few months ago, I found these curtains at World Market. I had finally found some inspiration for a new bedroom look!

The bedroom has been a deep red color for about ten years. Oh, and maybe I’ve been avoiding a new paint job because I had to paint the ceiling too!! That was a real pain in the NECK! Literally!

This is me laying on the bed thinking about how long it is going to take to cover all that red!

The master bath is that olive green color that is in the picture above. I have a green chaise lounge and an antique rocker with green upholstery that I didn’t want to get rid of, so I knew I would be keeping green in the room in one way or another. I actually like the green color, but I was ready to lighten up my bedroom and go for a completely different look. I was hoping that the ivy in these curtains would tie the bedroom and the bathroom together perfectly! I’ve previously had two panels on the wall outside of the window area, but I hadn’t put any curtains inside the window area like I decided to do here. It changed the whole look of the room!

I wanted a light and airily feel to the room.  I ventured out to the new IKEA store and found these little pots and plants to set in the window.

I’ve always wanted to make a little sitting area, but I never seem to be able to get it quite right, but I’m really loving this little arrangement! I bought this day bed for $50 at a garage sale in my neighborhood a few years ago and I’m really glad I did! The table beside it was my grandma’s and I just think it’s sweet.

I added a little outdoor feel to this wall by picking up some sticks out of the yard from our river birch tree. They filled this vase nicely with a few wine corks to keep them in place!

The area rug was a steal at $30. I found it at World Market, and it is the same color of green as the chaise in the opposite corner of the room! Things started coming together nicely!

On the other side of the window is the antique rocker that I found at an estate sale a few years ago. I have a thing for chairs when I’m antique shopping! I have no idea why. That little chair is surprisingly comfortable…..and it folds up so cute!!

I found my comforter at Bed Bath & Beyond, and the dogs are just as fond of it as we are! Super cozy! I picked the wall color based on the comforter. The walls look pretty green in these pictures, but I think of them as more of a cream color?

(As I write this post, read a little Facebook, and enjoy my coffee, the dogs and I are really enjoying our morning! There is a crazy rain storm happening right now, and I can’t think of anyplace I’d rather be!)

My lamp shades were on Clearance at Target for $13 a piece! I bought the glass bases at IKEA for $30 a piece.

IMG_1173

I still need a nice horizontal “something” to put over the bed, but I’m in no hurry and I want to shop for just the right piece.

I added a pillow and blanket to the chaise….simple, easy, inexpensive.

I had the clock and candle holders……

The only thing I did in the bathroom was change out the curtains and buy white towels. I actually had these curtains in storage and had forgotten about them! With the leaves and the sheer fabric, they were perfect! I found a great deal on towels at Marshall’s!

I’m loving the view from sitting on my bed!

After all was said and done, I purchased curtains, towels, lamps, an area rug, a few pillows and a new comforter. Every piece of furniture is in the EXACT same spot that it was before I painted and moved the placement of the curtains! I placed the daybed in a catty corner position instead of sitting against the wall, and placed a floor lamp behind it that I already had. I hung a few inexpensive pictures above it that were previously hanging in the bathroom. I am amazed at what paint, curtains and new bedding, and just a little bit of patience can do!

I’m sorry if I’ve bored you.

  1. Thanks Pam! I am loving the new color!

I love that chair! I wish I new it’s history! Super cute though…..

    🙂

  2. Hi Pam,

I’ve never bought those veggies before, but I can think of a couple of ideas that I would make!

If you like quinoa and keep some on hand, I would sauté the veggies in a little olive oil, then add some cooked quinoa to them and a little cracked black pepper and sea salt! If you want a little extra kick to it, add some salsa! You could then add some cooked chicken to that!

You could also sauté the veggies in olive oil, then add chicken broth to them to make soup! That would be a great 0 Point soup to keep on hand for a snack, or something to go with a dinner. If you want to add a few points, then add some chicken to that, or some brown rice!

I love a chopped salad. If those veggies are cut up small, you could just eat it all raw over a bed of lettuce with your favorite dressing!

    Hope that helps you??

Now I’m going to have to go to Trader Joe’s!

    🙂

Have a Great and Healthy weekend!

  3. Julie, bought some trader joe’s healthy 8 chopped veggie mix when I was out of town ( we don’t have one). Any idea show to use it? Thanks

  4. Your bedroom is beautiful! Love the softer, lighter color, drapes are really pretty. Good job! And I have the folding rocker, it’s my mom’s, probably 57-58 years old! It’s been recovered once many years ago, I just love it. Pam.
