Dates and Dates

Happy Monday!

Look at the little coffee cup a friend of mine bought me over the weekend. Isn’t it the cutest? This morning I made myself a Pumpkin Spice Frothy Coffee and enjoyed it on the deck.

I completely forgot to mention the fact that the birthday party that Mike and I went to on Saturday night had a special meaning for the two of us. On September 27th, 1996, Mike and I had our very first date at that same friends 30 birthday party! We had a great date night this Saturday celebrating our first date, 19 years ago. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Speaking of dates….

Do you eat dates? I just bought them in the bulk area of my grocery store. Thank you Ronda, for suggesting that I buy these. Ronda sent me THIS link to a video all about dates and I just watched it. Now I want to buy more.

I had them last night with some Cinnamon Hot Tea and they were a great sweet treat with my tea. I loved them!

I Googled “fresh dates” because I thought these were dried dates, but now that I’ve googled it, I’m even more confused. If you eat dates, I’d love to know if you count them as points when you eat them. I weighed them on my WW scale, and my scale says to count them as 3 PointsPlus. My WW App on my phone says that “fresh dates” are 0 points?

This is the nutritional info on the bulk label at the grocery store. What are your thoughts?

I did not get in a walk yesterday, or a Jazzercise class, or go to Yoga. Instead, I spent three hours on my hands and knees. We’ve been having a few things done around the house lately, and tomorrow, we are having Mike’s home office painted, along with all of the baseboards and window sills in the house. Guess what I did yesterday afternoon? I cleaned baseboards on my knees. Thank goodness I’ve saved my Volleyball knee pads! These work great for cleaning my floors too!

I’m still struggling to come up with dinner ideas, so I looked at a few of the recipes that I have on the blog. I know my blog is simple, with few recipes, but it is my hope that they are easy to make, have few ingredients, and can be a good “go to meal” when in doubt on what to make for a meal. I totally forgot about my 10 Different Quinoa Bowl’s post, so I checked it out and came up with something simple and tasty for dinner last night. It’s not really pretty or fancy, but Mike said it tasted great and I thought that it did too.

Okay, lots on the “to do list” today, so I gotta get busy. Have a great day!

Here are yesterday’s eats……

Breakfast – 2 PPV

Un-pictured Black Pumpkin Spice Coffee and Raw Almonds

Lunch – 10 PPV

Leftover Taco Meat, Sautéed Onions and Bell Peppers, Egg, Smashed Avocado. This was SO good!

IMG_3072

Snack – 2 PPV

Banana with 1 tsp Almond Butter, Chia Seeds and Honey Drizzle. This could probably be counted as 1 point, but I counted it as 2.

Dinner – 9 PPV

I sautéed one Zucchini (you can’t see it in this bowl though?) one yellow Squash, and 1/2 Red Onion in Olive OIl. Then I added to the skillet 6 oz of Rotisserie Chicken. 1/2 C cooked Quinoa, 4 Laughing Cow Cheese Wedges and a little Chicken Broth because it needed a little more liquid. I divided that into 2 servings.

This picture makes it look dry, but it was actually really creamy with the cheese wedges.

Dinner was yummy! I promise.

Snack – 3 PPV

Dates and Hot Tea

Weight Watcher’s Points Plus

I can eat 26 PPV a day.

I can earn Activity Points by doing exercise, and eat them if I choose.

I have an allowance of 49 extra points that I can dip into throughout the week if I choose.

I should drink a minimum of 6 (8 oz) glasses of water each day.

My Weight Watcher Week Begins on Friday’s

Breakfast = 2

Lunch = 10

Snack = 2

Dinner = 9

Snack = 3

Total = 26

Exercise = House work???

Activity Points Earned for the Day = I’m not giving myself activity points

Activity Points Earned This Week = 10

Activity Points Remaining This Week = 10

How many ounces of water I drank for the day = 60

Remaining points from my 49 Points Allowance = 6

This is What I Will Accomplish in 2015

I will choose one occasion per month for Social Drinking (um..this is a work in progress)

I will go no more than two days in a row without exercise. (I’ve done “two a day’s” to make up)

I will track every single day of the entire year. (I’ve only NOT tracked a few weekends this year.)

I will run in a minimum of six 5K’s. Three down, three to go!

  1. You are spot on! I eat more fruit than I used to because I am looking for something to eat that is zero points. Much better than a cookie!

    🙂

  2. Yep! … I’m pretty sure my weight issues are NOT from too much fruit! Ha! But in all seriousness, fruit would always be a better choice than a cookie if we were wanting something sweet – and it is very true that the closer one gets to goal, the closer we need to monitor our “un-limited” fruit. It does have calories, which our body needs to burn or we will “store”. I have a consumption problem – and I could eat a half of a full-sized watermelon for dinner in the summertime – but I know I can’t count that as NO points! The real issue is feeling like I need that “full-belly” feeling – I need to learn to eat everything in moderation, but at the end of the day everything I put into my mouth counts and I need to be aware of it – sometimes I just need/want a cookie,and should have one (note: “one”!!) but on most days eating a banana or a date would be a better choice than eating a doughnut! I love that WW made fruits as no points, as physiologically, we will usually choose a no-point fruit over having to use our points on a sweet of any sort – and like training rats, hopefully someday, we’ll reach for a fruit first over a cookie! And Yes, I do think today WOULD be a great day to be determined to get to our goal weights! I’m with you! … Ronda

  3. Thank you so much for all of your Date info. It is greatly appreciated. I’m buying more for sure, and I promise to eat some in my oatmeal, but I think you are absolutely right. They are like banana’s for me, which I eat too many of, and don’t count them. Maybe our 15 pounds IS from our fruit! Dang that healthy fruit!!

    If I ever decide that I am determined as HECK to get back to my goal weight, I’ll probably limit myself to two servings of fruit a day, and any more than that, I will count as points. Geeezzzz, maybe I should just do that today, huh?

  4. You would think I am employed by the date board, I really am not – but I was unfamiliar with them until I moved here to Yuma where they are grown and now I am so in love with! The little I know about them is that they do sugar over time and they look like they are dried – but they are not. To “un- sugar” them, you just pop them in the microwave for a few seconds. To keep them from sugaring, put them in the freezer. They freeze beautifully and that’s how I keep mine. ….And they literally are being harvested this week here in Yuma – AZ!

  5. I am posting here not because I have any great info, but want to follow any additional comments/insights you get on how to count points for dates! – dates, the fruit-kind, that is- 😉 I have always counted them as zero points. This is my reasoning: they are a fresh fruit. If they were dried they would have points just like grapes/raisins . Even though they have a lot of calories, I consider them like I do bananas. You want to be careful not to eat too many bananas because of their high sugar and calorie content – you really can’t eat too many dates because of how sweet they are – One or two are plenty. But again, this is just my reasoning, however it also might be my same reasoning that keeps me a consistent 15 pounds over my goal weight! Lol! But now that you have bought some please try them chopped up with almonds in your oatmeal. Outstanding! And I think I told you that I also put him in your pumpkin pancakes? Ronda

  6. I’ve never utilized that before. Good idea Nancy!

    If you’re a fruit girl, try the dates!

    🙂

  7. I’ve never eaten dates.
    But if you have a weight watcher monthly pass can’t you get in touch with one of those on line coaches???
    They are supposed to answer any question or at least my leader was encouraging us to use it.
    But I haven’t heard anyone mention it lately.

  8. I think banana’s show up on the recipe builder as 3 points too. I eat those all the time and truly think if I didn’t, or if I counted them as 3 points if I eat more than one a day, it would benefit me on the scale.

    I think if you are a person that eats a lot of fruit, like myself, it’s best to count them.

    I think if you only eat one fruit a day, zero points would likely be the safe choice.

    Thanks for your input Erin. I’m curious to see if anyone else will chime in.

    Have a great Week!

  9. I think I’d err on the side of points for the dates. From the nutrition information, the calculator gives me 3 points, too, just like your scale.

    It is one of those weird WW inconsistency items for sure! Like how fruit can be zero points, but you make a smoothie in the recipe builder and because the fruit all together have high sugars and carbs – zero point fruit with water and ice turns into a 6 point smoothie.

    I would guess having the drying occur in the dates, the sugars are concentrated and the similar increase in point value occurs.
