15 Day Yoga Challenge, Life, Goal Setting

I love doing a challenge, even if I’m not 100% successful at the challenge.

I used to spend a lot of time criticizing myself for what I did not accomplish, and very little time giving myself credit for what I did accomplish.

I have learned that when I challenge myself, even if I do not complete my challenge 100%, I’m doing more than what I would have done had I not challenged myself at all, and through my challenge, I continue to learn more about myself.

My goal was 15 days of Yoga for one hour a day. I had been doing a one hour Yoga class, one to two days a week.

I completed 11 of those 15 days, and 5 of those 11 days were only 30 minute Yoga videos at home in the evening. Did I complete 15 days? No.

What did I learn?

  1. I know that I want to do Yoga more often now. so I will.
  2. I’ve discovered some great videos that I can do at home when I can’t make it to a class.
  3. A bonus of doing Yoga at home? I’m more apt to try a new position at home that I might not want to try for the first time in class.
  4. Increasing the time that I spent doing Yoga has made me feel stronger in my core and in my legs, which is what I was hoping for.
  5. I have realized that doing 30 minutes of Yoga before bed really helps me to have a restful night of sleep!

I learned a lot!

Challenge yourself at something, anything, and discover something new about yourself.

  1. Challenge yourself at walking more often, or walking further.
  2. Cook more often than you do now.
  3. Cook a new food once a week for a month.
  4. Buy a Groupon to an exercise class that you have never done before and see if you like it.
  5. Dust off your bike and ride it this week (Oh geezzz, that’s a good idea for me!)
  6. Do an exercise video online.

Think about it. It could lead to a whole new routine for you!

Life

I had a great time on an overnight with my girlfriend Wednesday and Thursday, then Friday and Saturday I have spent doing laundry, running errands, doing a little cooking and just a little decorating for Fall.

Friday’s Dinner (I didn’t track or take pictures Wednesday, Thursday or Friday day.)

Haddock Taco Bowl….on a plate.

Haddock in Fish Taco Seasoning on a bed of Cilantro Lime Caulirice topped with homemade Guac and a side of roasted Plantains.

I am loving the weather these last few days. I loved sitting on the deck and grilling dinner last night. Of course, I utilized my new Weight Watcher Wine glasses. 🙂

I spent a large part of yesterday planning what to pack for our upcoming trip to NYC. I have been wanting Mike and I to go to NYC for more than a few years now. I want to plan a ton of things and I want to plan nothing at all. We have tickets to a Broadway Musical, and the rest of the trip we are playing by ear. We have a full list of things that we want to see of course, but I want this trip to feel relaxed and not chaotic. I know we will not get to everything on the list, and I’m good with that. We will just have to go back next year! Right?

I want to stroll through the museums, drink coffee and walk through Central Park, stand in the middle of Times Square and just soak it all up. We leave Tuesday!

The Scale and Goal Setting

The scale remains at 172, which if you are a regular reader, you know I have gone back and forth with the idea of remaining at 172 (because I kinda like it here, and I feel good, and I am healthy) and making it my new goal weight, or trying to get back to my original goal weight of 160. I have decided to give that 160 number a try, which means I need to set some goals for myself as far as that number thing goes.

November 1st, 169. That may not sound like much of a challenge, but travel adds 5 pounds easily for me, then a week to get it back off, and I haven’t seen 169 in a really long time, so I’m trying to be realistic here.

December 1st, 165.

Here are yesterday’s eats.

Breakfast – 0 SP

Banana and Black Coffee

Lunch – 12 SP

Whole Food Salad Bar

  2. I believe you can do anything you set your mind to do.
Or like you say you will at least get closer or learn something from it.
    You are one go getter!
Besides you do so much walking in New York city that you’ll walk off a bit of pizza or bakery item (beer/wine)!
