Holy Butternut Squash Batman, that’s some good Chili!!

Sometimes when I’m so excited that I can’t come up with the right words, I just throw in a Holy _______, Batman! It works…..usually. I found this recipe on Pinterst. I know….surprise! I can’t help myself. I tried to make this all last week, and just never had the time. My goal is to try new foods and recipes each week. I think last week the only thing new that I did get in was the Apples In A Bag, which I poured over my oatmeal, and it was delicious, and I will make it again, soon! I really became fond of Butternut Squash last Fall. So, this is not so much a brand new food for me this year, but this is a brand new recipe. Click below for the original recipe that I found on Pinterest. Butternut Squash Chili I actually didn’t do the chipotle part of this […]

Gorilla Nation!

A perfect Fall weekend full of Football, fun, friends, family and doing all of the things I love…….(not so perfect on the food side of things). I tried too. I planned snacks, I drank my water, I shared my meals, I did drink beer, but within reason. I did not get in exercise, I did not get in enough power foods. Here’s how things played out…… Friday was busy and full and productive, and ended with a night out with girlfriends. We had shopping and art planned for the evening, but when we all met up, staying inside the warm cozy bar and chatting and laughing the night away, won over the shopping and art. Who would want to leave THIS? Saturday morning I was headed to Pitt State for a little GORILLA NATION fun! I was excited to see my daughter and attend the Pitt State Football game for […]

Friday Reflection

I had to run an errand on the Plaza, and just about got in a wreck taking this picture with my iPad, but it was so cool to see the Breast Cancer Support! I am a little short on time, so just to the point for this blog……. Today I reflect on the fact that last Friday, Saturday, Sunday and most of Monday kicked ass and I was super excited to be at my lowest weight in over seven years. Monday afternoon I had an M&M, cookie, all out sugar attack and sabotaged my awesome prior week. Urg. Am I disappointed in myself?Yes. Am I frustrated with myself?Yes. Do I hate myself? Not at all. I was faced with a “sugary situation” that I have not yet mastered walking away from. So I remind myself that I look MUCH better in my Jeans and Boots than I did last Fall, then […]

Urg……Physical Therapy……

This is me……well, kinda. (I think this is a boy, and it’s actually my right shoulder, but that burning red part is totally accurate!) So the same week I decided to go back to Bootcamp, I also made the decision to go to the Doctor about my shoulder that has been somewhat sore for several months, but recently progressed into some pretty bad pain. It has been getting worse, and bothered me quite a bit during my 8 week session of Bootcamp this summer. I guess I kept thinking it would heal itself. Saturday was day one of Bootcamp (ouch) and Wednesday was day one of the Physical Therapy that my Dr. prescribed (ouch). My physical therapist is not super excited about me lifting weights, and gave me very clear instructions on what I could and could NOT do. It seems as though my shoulder pain has led to some […]

When I quit smoking………

Fifteen years ago, in the middle of the night, I drove Tess to a friends house, then I drove myself to the Emergency Room, where I was told I had walking pneumonia and bronchitis, along with the asthma attack I was having, and if I continued to smoke, I would be breathing like that on a daily basis in about 10 years. I quit the next day. I had been smoking for 12 years. I grew up with it. It was always around, and though I spent a lot of time “closet smoking”, I never imagined I would be a non-smoker. Six weeks after I had quit, my mom came for a weekend visit. We had a couple of Wine Coolers, and she lit up. I wanted one soooo bad. So I did. Then immediately after, I had another. I spent the next hour and a half in the bathroom […]

Happy October!

( This post is going to be ALL over the place. I typically write my blog throughout the day……jotting things down that I think about, what I ate, taking pictures, reflecting off and on throughout the day, then I finalize it and post the following morning. Not that anyone cares or needs to know that, but when I started the blog out for yesterday, I was having an awesome day…week…whatever, and was excited for October and my Jack-O-Lantern. As I write this…….I just got home from walking the dogs, and tripped over one of the leashes, did a face plant into the sidewalk, hurt both wrist in the fall, lost most of the skin off of one toe, and all of the polish from the toe beside it!) THE BEGINNING OF MY DAY…..MONDAY… This little Jack-O-Lantern belonged to my Great Great Aunt Mag, and I inherited it years ago. It […]

Friend Making Mondays

FMM (Friend Making Mondays) is something Kenlie does on her blog, and she encourages other bloggers to do the same. Last week was the first time I participated, but I liked it and decided to do it again! Here is this weeks series of questions…………..with my answers. Uniquely You 1) Do you prefer to talk or text? Text, but only because my hearing is terrible! 2) How often do you make your bed? I go in spurts. I’m currently in a no-bed-making spurt. And that’s weird, because I’m a freak about the laundry being put away as it comes out of the dryer, unloading the dishwasher daily, pillows and blankets being put away before bedtime……..a bunch of overly tidy stuff!! 3) What sounds do you hear right now? Ellen Degeneres…..I LOVE her! 4) List three things that you always carry with you. Readers…(can’t see either!), cell phone, iPad (iPad also […]

Thinking Outside The Box…….at the Grocery Store…….

Well, inside the box, or outside the box……we are out of groceries! But I am making a grocery list for Monday, and while I am shopping, I will buy something that I have never tried and give it a go……. Have YOU tried anything “Outside the Box” lately? I had that lonely little egg, a little milk, and I always have my Trader Joes Bread in the freezer. My first thought? French Toast. My second thought? French Toast. 🙂 I topped my two slices of French Toast with Pumpkin Butter……ohhhh sooooo good. Kiwi’s and an Orange5 PPV I highly recommend Pumpkin Butter on French Toast. You think the French do that? I Googled…..”Do French people eat French Toast?” Yes. I really do, do stupid stuff like that all the time. Here is what I found that some lady said. I believe most things I read. ………………….. They call it either […]
