I am a list FREAK!

I always have been. Every list you see lying there….well, all of that info is also on my iPad Notes app, but I have to have it right in front of me, on paper, or I freak out thinking I am going to forget something. I get a total high from crossing things OFF the list too. It’s not quite so exciting to delete a chore from my ipad Notes App. Then it’s just blank…..empty…….bare…….nothing, like nothing was ever there to begin with. Nope. I gotta see it! I gotta see all the crap I did that day all crossed off on my list so when Mike gets home, I have lots to share. Sometimes…..and don’t tell anybody…….I do something that wasn’t on the list, then I write it down real quick, then cross it off! “Look at all the crap I got done today honey!” Then I make a “new” list with the things that didn’t get crossed off on it, and I add any new chore that came up that day. Sometimes…….everything gets crossed off and it’s like I’ve conquered the WORLD!!!! Certain chores, or task, are so important, they don’t get added to a list. They just have to be written on a piece of paper alone, typically in large letters. Please see example in the picture below.

It’s ridiculous, I know, but I can’t help it. I can’t be the only one with a list obsession, can I??

I was so busy with the list, I forgot to eat breakfast. Actually, I had a banana and coffee, but that’s zero Weight Watchers Points, so it’s like I didn’t eat at all.

I could eat taco’s for days before I got tired of them. Or any kind of taco type food. Chips and salsa, beans, Taco seasoned chicken or beef or pork, cheese and sour cream, guac……pretty much all of it.

Today I had some leftover Taco Soup, served over a bed of baked chips and cheese…..

I could eat it for dayssssssss……..did I say that already??

After being away from the house for several hours, then unloading the car for what seemed like an eternity, I was DYING of thirst. I had to stock and reorganize the basement fridge in preparations for our families Christmas Open House this weekend, and we only had one Blue Moon beer left. Now we have zero.

I felt the tension leave my body………..

It looks like I am gulping it, but I didn’t. It’s just hard to drink and try to take your picture, but not look like you’re taking your own picture without looking like this.

I swear I didn’t gulp.

(Baking today wasn’t on my list, so I just wrote it down, then crossed it off!)

I made three regular size loaves on Monday night, but I didn’t add any nuts, and my mom loves pumpkin bread with nuts, so I added nuts AND chocolate chips to these mini loaves. I hope she appreciates all my hard work! 🙂

I spent my morning listening to my traditional Nat King Cole Christmas music…..over and over and over again while wrapping Christmas presents. Music can be tied to so many memories. Every year, when I was a kid, my parents would host a Christmas Eve Open House. Neighbors, Co-Workers, friends and relatives would stop by the house on their way out for the evening, or on their way home from wherever the night had taken them. My mom would spend days baking and decorating and cleaning. The entire time, listening to Christmas music. Andy Williams, Bing Crosby, Elvis and Nat King Cole are some of the ones I remember the most. I bought this Nat King Cole CD when Tess was fairly young so I could carry on the tradition. Tess wasn’t there while I was wrapping presents on Sunday, but I couldn’t do a Christmas activity without good old Nat! When Tess is home, she INSIST we listen to Nat King Cole! It’s a little tradition, but it’s a favorite for sure!

Tess graduates Friday from Pitt State University and I am super excited and OH SO proud of that little girl! We are throwing a party following the graduation…..at a bar…..so there’s lots to do and buy for that. Since it’s out of town, it’s a little more time consuming and stressful to plan decorations and food and all the details, but its all coming together, thanks to good friends, helpful and friendly people…..and patients. Saturday we come home and get ready for Sunday, when we will host a Family Christmas Open House with 25-30 family members here, so I have been planning a menu and shopping for that as well. We are also having our gift exchange with kids and Grandkids BEFORE everyone else gets here…….so…….

LOTS TO DO!!!

At 9:30 pm, I was busy finalizing my detailed “to do list” for the rest of the week. Tuesday’s list alone has about 15 places I need to go, and I’m already DONE Christmas shopping!

I decided it was the best time possible to bake pumpkin bread. WHAT? I know. It was late, the kitchen was clean, we were relaxed in the living room with the Tree Lights and a fire……but I did it anyway.

The house smelled soooooo good.

Saturday Shopping!!!! Yay!!!

I ate peanut butter and jelly on toast while laying out every single thing I have purchased…..then making a list of what I still needed to buy…….

(I’m big on the Stocking Stuffer’s. I don’t mean to brag, but I do a pretty darn good job at it too! Stocking Stuffer shopping for the entire family takes me two days! This is not a joke, people.)

Then, I was too tired to think, so I ate the exact same thing all over again. Do you like the Turkey Paper Plate from Thanksgiving I am feasting on?? You gotta use those leftovers sometime!

But, I can bank at Target, I can buy shoes and boots, toys and clothes for the grandkids, make-up, liquor, Christmas cards for the parents, scarves and hats, wrapping paper and bows, leggings and socks….I can get a Starbuck’s and shop…….WHY GO ELSEWHERE????

It was getting kinda late in the day, and I was beginning to feel light headed, so I took a break. Cuz they HAVE A STARBUCK’S FOR YOU TO TAKE A BREAK IN!!!! HOLLA! I am beginning to feel delirious here.

I really haven’t taken the time for a “Friday Reflection”, however, I really should.

I did not weigh in at my Friday meeting. I weighed at home. Thursday nights beer and salty chips was not one of my better “Night Before Weigh In” choices. Sure, I drank lots of water, and walked when I got home, but that didn’t show on the scale Friday morning at home. Really not a big deal, I just didn’t want to have to see a gain at my meeting since I have seen a loss the last two weeks. I think I can make up for it this week, with great caution anyhow.

I am going to do my best to get through these next few Holiday Weeks and College Graduation Festivities.

Saturday is a full day of shopping out and about, and I am taking two apples and a big bottle of water with me. If I need to stop for a meal, I’ll hit a grocery store salad bar.

Lots to do, so out the door I go.

Yip. That’s right. Mr. Competitive had to see in just how many days he could get that 1000 piece puzzle completed! I helped a little, but Mr. Competitive is also Mr. Patient. The guy could sit there staring at all those red pieces for hours! It was good to fill our evenings with the puzzle and good chats versus staring aimlessly at a TV show we weren’t really interested in anyhow. Maybe after New Years, I’ll get another one!

I met with the owner of the Bootcamp, and he suggested returning to Bootcamp would not be in my best interest. I probably knew that, and I think the surgeon let me know that I could if I wanted to, just for the routine of it all. Let me whine for just a sec. Skip to the next paragraph if you must. I just wish when I started having trouble, I would have went to the Dr. instead of thinking time would heal it. I am tired of the daily pain and now, knowing that I have to wait until after the 1st to find out what the next steps are, then wondering how long those next steps will take and when will I have full use of my shoulder…..is overwhelmingly an exhausting thought. Thanks for listening.

I had a bit of an irritating afternoon and was ready to belly up to a bar for a beer and a basket of chips and salsa. So I did. Mike was on his way after work to meet me. By the time he got there, I was on beer number two and a second basket of chips!

I wasn’t going to order any dinner……then the bartender convinced me to try some chicken/steak tower something or another. How many points is THAT?

Wait. How many points is a BASKET OF CHIPS???

You should NEVER NEVER eat chips and salsa and drink beer the night before a weigh in! What a dumb a**!

Obviously I had some sort of a carb-comfort food-whacked out day of eating.

We got home from dinner at like 8:30. I was tired, it felt even later, and it was cold. I wanted the couch, my P.J.’s, my blanket and the dogs. Instead I changed clothes, grabbed the leashes, and out the door we went. There is just something about these after dark walks with all the Christmas lights that I am loving! The neighborhood just glows and I love it! It’s a little energizing I guess. It was just a 30 minute walk, but the dogs needed it just as much as I did!

Thank goodness it’s Friday! My new Weight Watcher week begins on Fridays.

Sometimes I just swear, I have no idea where the time goes! We are celebrating Christmas here on the 16th with most of our family. A few family members will be out of town on Christmas Day, so we need to get together a little early, which is really “no big deal”, except that it kinda is.

That’s like…….10 less shopping days people!!

Tess College Graduation is also right smack in the middle of December, and out of town, which is taking away shopping days for the gal that does all the shoppin!! ME! Of course, I am so proud of her, I could explode, so it’s really not a big deal, I am just letting you all know I have fewer shopping days this year in hopes that at least one of will go…..”awe…..”.

I had this huge list of things I wanted to accomplished by the end of Monday and Tuesday, and now it’s Wednesday, and my list is not half way complete!

So I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. And everything I seem to look at or touch lately, breaks. So I keep adding “fix it’s” to my gigantic “To Do List”!

I keep running into things and tripping a lot lately. What’s THAT about??? Yesterday I closed my bedroom door on my own foot. How does that even HAPPEN? It was one of those moments when you’re afraid to look, so you limp around the room yelling every bad word in your vocabulary and holding your breath and gritting your teeth, all at the same time. Then you look, expecting to see your toe bent in the middle at a 90 degree angle. I didn’t even break the skin!

Anyhow, I did finally make it to the grocery store, but seriously, I bought like four things.

Eggs was one of those things, and my Light English Muffins.

Food Truck Today!

Beauty Of The Bistro offered up a Grilled Chicken Buffalo Wrap today! Inside the wrap, that was buttered and thrown on the grill, was a mess of hash-browns and cheese too! Uh….HELLO? Deliciousness!!!

You can’t sell this stuff without tasting it! So after this picture, and after I messed up a couple of orders because we were CRAZY busy today, and after it got cold and I threw it back on the grill, I ate half of this dipped in a little Blue Cheese Dressing……..GULP……..

Bummer……

I went to the Orthopedic Surgeon on Tuesday for further evaluation of my shoulder. He would like me to get an MRI to take a better look at my Rotator Cuff. If there is a tear, then surgery, if no tear, then lots more physical therapy. Due to the time of year and insurance and deductibles and all that fun stuff, I now need to wait EVEN LONGER (after Jan. 1) to find out exactly what is going on, which means Bootcamp is even more prolonged. The Dr., who I really did like, actually told me I could go to Bootcamp if I wanted to, which I really do, and that I could not do more damage to my shoulder, I would just have to do something to manage the pain from using my shoulder. I am meeting with the owner of the Bootcamp on Thursday to get his opinion. I want the most out of Bootcamp, and I have no clue what to do.

Just frustrated and wanting to get back to a routine……

Lunch was a salad at a restaurant where a friend of mine is a bartender. After my appointment, I felt a little stressed and needed an ear. So I hit my local pub. 🙂

I think all of the afternoon snacking was due to stress thinking about the possibility of surgery. Needless to say, when dinner rolled around, (I actually did cook) I just wasn’t hungry. We have a really high deductible, so if surgery is necessary, it’s gonna be a big chunk of cash. Happy New Year!

I didn’t get any exercise in, so that kinda sucks.

We leave for a beach vacation in 6 weeks. I decided this time when I joined WW (three years ago), that it was for my health, not for a vacation or a wedding or a special occasion. That’s still true, but since I am having such a hard time getting through the 160’s, I would be happy to go on vacation at 164, since that would be my lowest weight since joining WW. So I am trying to get there.

Christmas Shopping!

After freaking out Sunday night and getting all stressed out about all there is to do over the next couple of weeks, Mike made me sit down and make a list (he totally know’s I’m a list person) and figure out what all I needed to get done. So I did. Then I got done at home what I could, and he had me rattle off a few things he could do to help. 🙂

When it came time for a little breakfast, I realized this……..

Can you believe adults actually live here? It looks like the fridge of a college student. After I removed the 12 pack of beer, that’s when I realized I needed to add “groceries” to my list for the day.

Plaza Shopping!

And I don’t mean for Christmas either……..

Mike is in love with his Tommy Bahama wardrobe. His love affair began one summer with the short sleeve button up shirts. Then one year, we were in Naples, Florida where we were able to visit and shop at the Original Tommy Bahama Store and have lunch at their restaurant. Once he realized what a wide variety of clothes they had in their stores, he was hooked! I do have to admit, all of his shirts and sweaters, and yes, even his jeans from Tommy Bahama, are SO soft. Since I’m not a big shopper and don’t like to spend a lot on one item, I have never bought anything there for myself.


Until today.

Apparently, I spent so much on his birthday there, they sent us a couple of gift cards! So today, we spent them! And I decided to “Birthday Gift” myself.
A lot of the items are REVERSIBLE! Two for one!!

Anyhow, it was a great afternoon of selfish shopping. On the drive home, I completely stressed myself out thinking about all of the shopping I SHOULD have been doing!!

To relieve the stress, Tucker and I took the most beautiful walk through the neighborhood. By the time we got outside, it was dark, and so many neighbors have had a chance to get Christmas Lights up outside, our walk was beautiful!

When we got home, Mike was finishing up his “Honey Do List”. When he asked what else he could do to help with my stress level (true story), I gave him permission to put his feet up and retire for the evening (also a true story). Instead, he worked on this……


He has practically the entire right top corner of our 1000 piece puzzle done!

He’s THE MAN!!!

Have you tried this? It’s a great little surprising sweet treat in the evening. I love hot drinks, and really, I could drink coffee all day long, but I do love tea too. This is great because that little tea bag is amazingly full of flavor!

They make the honey lime vinaigrette as they make your salad, then also add a peanut sauce. I asked for light on the vinaigrette, and the peanut sauce on the side. It was perfect with just a little of the peanut sauce drizzled over the top.

I started my Saturday morning off with coffee, the couch, the DVR and the dogs……oh, and I ate a banana.

I knew I would choose my food carefully throughout the day, because there was a party Saturday Night, and I was gonna have me some fun!

Apparently I drank plenty of water during Happy Hour Friday Night, and was smart about my vodka quantity, because I woke up feeling great!

Oh….and the fact that NO Hookah pipe appeared, although there was a small suggestion of it, probably helped too!

The dogs and I headed out for a good long walk, and it actually felt HOT outside on this 1st of December! So weird…..

Around noon, I decided I needed to eat….

Tortilla (2) and some cheese (2)……..

……..we went to some friends to chit chat and have a drink before the party. I had decided that vodka thing went pretty well the night before, and I did like the way my flavored vodka taste. The trick for me here is figuring how much vodka I can drink. I know my beer limit. I’ve been drinking it long enough, I’m very familiar with it. I have figured out my wine limit, and lately, that seems to give me a headache no matter how little or how much I drink. But the vodka thing is tricky because I’m not really a sipper, but I’m learning. Drinking water in between each vodka drink is helpful!

We had a drink and snacked on almonds (yum!) and wasabi peas! (Gross!) I had to spit mine out! I don’t even know why I tasted them. I was pretty sure I had tasted them before, and I wasn’t a fan. (go with your gut Julie, what were you thinking?)

I had a great time at the party! It was a going away party for some friends of ours that are moving to South Africa for 2 1/2 years! I know! Crazy, right? They will be moving with their three kids right around the first of the year. I think it sounds like an amazing opportunity for the whole family and I can’t wait to hear some of the first stories of life in South Africa!
