Birthday Celebration’s

September 13, 2015

It was a fun and busy Saturday celebrating my mom’s birthday, and the birthday of one of my girlfriend’s. I took my mom to brunch, then we hit up the City Market so Mom could gather a few veggies for a big pot of soup!

IMG_2665

The weather the last couple of days has been in the 70’s, my absolute favorite, so I’ve spent as much time outside as possible. After spending time with mom, Tucker and I took a 3 mile walk and saw all sorts of neighbors and dogs along the way. Did I mention that it was GORGEOUS outside??

After a great day outside, we met a few friends for dinner and a birthday celebration.

IMG_2707

It was a late…..late night that ended with dancing……lots of music and lots of dancing and lots of fun.

IMG_2696

We ordered bottles of Wine and Sushi Rolls at dinner, and shared everything, so I’m making my best guess for the evening on how many points I consumed, then I added an extra 5 points, just to be safe.

I haven’t had the most balanced diet the last two days with wine and peanuts for dinner on Friday, and wine and sushi for dinner last night, but I’m looking forward to a successful and healthy week of balanced meals and exercise.

We went to bed after 2:00 am, and slept until 10:00 am! Now for a little Sunday Funday Football on the couch and some meal planning for the week!

Here are yesterday’s eats…..

Grocery Store Surprises

September 12, 2015

I made a grocery store stop on the way home from my Weight Watcher meeting yesterday. This was the first thing I saw when I walked in the door!

IMG_2624

I had heard of Cotton Candy grapes before, but I had never seen them. They truly taste like Cotton Candy. Have you had them??

Then I saw this awesome deal, so I stocked up!

IMG_2621

I made myself a nice big salad and headed home.

Mike and I went to Grandparents Day at our Granddaughters Kindergarten class yesterday afternoon. I love this kid. She is loving school and all of the activities and her new friends.

IMG_0102

She is listening so intently to Grandpa’s story of how he walked to school 5 miles in the snow. Just kidding. The teacher had the kids ask the grandparents how they got to school when they were kids and what their favorite part of school was. She loved listening to Grandpa.

IMG_0101

Such a cute age.

IMG_0100

We took her out for a little ice cream. Her, not me. This kid LOVES the camera!

IMG_0099

After grandparents day, I went to a little Birthday Happy Hour for a friend of mine where I had wine and a little cheese and a few pretzels and a lot of fun.

IMG_0098

After Happy Hour, I headed home to go to dinner with the hubs, only to find him sitting in the driveway of our next door neighbors enjoying a beer, some peanuts and sitting around the fire pit. I joined them, and we never did go to dinner. Dinner last night was wine, cheese, pretzels and peanuts.

The weather yesterday was absolutely gorgeous and I loved ending our Friday night sitting around a fire pit!

I weighed in at my meeting and I weigh 172, my bodies favorite weight.

My daughter is not going to be happy with this purchase, but a few years ago, I had a pair of camouflage pants that I wore, and wore, and wore until they had holes in them and I had to pitch them. She never did like those pants. I sent her this picture yesterday of my recent Walmart find!

“Look what mommy found!”

IMG_2630

Here are yesterday’s eats……

Unpictured Frothy Coffee and a Banana. (Tucker is feeling 100% after having 13 teeth pulled on Tuesday!)

IMG_2629

I’ve talked a lot about the Food Truck this week, but I’ve had good reason. Yesterday was crazy hot in that thing. Somedays we get a hint of a breeze coming in the truck, and other days nothing. Yesterday was a no breeze kinda day and with the grill, the oven and three burners going, it’s gets hot in there! Within just a few minutes of being there, I was sweating like crazy. That sounds so unappealing as far as the food goes. Basically, I wiped my face a lot with paper towels and I just kept drinking water.

Guess what exercise I did for the day? Hot Yoga. Yep. After four hours of sweating, I chose to sweat some more. I felt a bit dizzy in class. Don’t worry, I drank 140 ounces of water yesterday. I’m not really one of those people that sweats easily. Never have been. Yesterday, I think I made up for a whole life time of not much sweating.

I like to track my activity points, however, I’m a little disappointed at the options for activity in my Weight Watcher Tracker at times. There is no Hot Yoga option, only Yoga. I know that class earns me more than 4 Activity Points, but that’s what I’ll keep tracking. Oddly, if you run, while pushing a wheelchair, WW will help you track those points.

IMG_2617

How many activity points for sweating? I don’t know how to know. Yesterday was likely one of those days that I should have eaten more than 26 points since I exercised hard. I got a lot of activity in on Wednesday too with Jazzercise class and mowing the lawn and only ate 26 points on that day too. I didn’t go to bed hungry either night? You now know what I’ll be asking at my WW meeting this morning!

Last night after Hot Yoga, I went to a Cabi clothing party. Yes. I went right after Yoga! No make up. Sweat and all. I knew what i wanted to order and that I wouldn’t be trying any clothes on, but I mention it because there was wine and there were snacks at the party, and I passed on those and drank 4 bottles of water instead.

Ahhh….that felt good.

Here are yesterday’s eats….

Breakfast – 6 PPV

Almond Joy Oatmeal

IMG_2596

Lunch – 6 PPV

Market Salad at the Food Truck. Larger than yesterday’s. Buried under all those greens…Sunflower Seeds and Feta.

IMG_2601

Snack – 0 PPV

Strawberries at the Food Truck

IMG_2602

Snack – 3 PPV

140 g Greek Nonfat Plain Yogurt with a few drops of Vanilla Stevia and Cinnamon mixed in. Topped with a Kiwi, Chia Seeds and a Honey drizzle.

IMG_2603

Dinner – 11 PPV

I brought home this Chicken Salad Sandwich from the Food Truck with extra Chicken Salad packed in there. We had a lot of chicken salad left yesterday.

IMG_2612

I ate all of the Chicken Salad and 1/4 of the Bun.

What I Didn’t Eat

September 10, 2015

If you read my blog regularly, you know that I work for a friend of mine that bought a food truck a few years ago. I thought the whole Food Truck idea sounded like a lot of fun, so when she bought it, I told her that if she ever needed any help, to let me know. She did. I love this little part time job of mine! I take the orders on most days and I have so much fun chatting with people who are excited to be there and eat her yummy food! People say the nicest things. Some people say weird things too. Some people just trust the menu and order as is, and a few people ask questions. Those are maybe my favorite.

“What’s good here?”

“Is the mac and cheese any good?”

“I’d like the taco’s, but I don’t like spicy food. Is the jalapeño aioli spicy?”

“I want the Roadhouse Burger, but can I have it without the bacon jam?”

“Can I order the Pulled Pork Taco’s without the broccoli slaw?”

Usually I’m having fun there and in a spunky mood, so my response is typically…..

“Everything’s good. That’s why it’s on the menu.”

“No. The Mac and Cheese sucks. Would you like to order something else?”

“Yes. The jalapeño aioli is spicy. It has jalapeno’s in it. Would you like to try one of the 6 items on the menu that has no jalapeno’s on it or in it?”

“You can have that burger without the bacon jam, but I’m going to question your judgement.”

“Yes. You can order the taco’s without the broccoli slaw, but I’m making you take a side order and you HAVE to taste it.”

Usually they laugh and work with me. I only say that kinda stuff to someone that I think might appreciate it, but it makes the job all that more fun, and I like to think that as good as the food is, people are having fun when they come see us too!

The food is awesome and the truck has been super successful in the Kansas City area. I work for her anywhere from two to three days a week. Let’s be honest, most Food Truck food is not going to be super point friendly. I’ve managed to eat smaller portions, add less aioli (I could eat that stuff on just about anything!), skip the tortilla or the bun, but some days are harder than other days. Some days I can skip the food altogether, and other days I just want a Pulled Pork Taco and I wanna eat the Tortilla! So, I eat it and I count the points and move forward with my day. The thing is…I can be a bit of an all or nothing person, so if I have a Taco on Wednesday, and I’m also working on Thursday and Friday, those days can be a real struggle, and it’s just easier for me if I can skip it all together on Wednesday.

Yesterday, we weren’t as busy as we usually are, which means more time to think about all of the food that is at my fingertips!

IMG_0096

Um….The Best Pulled Pork that may ever touch your lips.

The cheesiest Mac!!

IMG_2573

This is the Roadhouse Burger with a Buttered and Toasted Bun with homemade BACON JAM! People, it’s BACON…..in a jam!

IMG_2579

I didn’t eat any of that. I didn’t eat any of the awesome Chicken Salad. I didn’t eat a pork taco. I didn’t eat any of the yummy chips that we sell, and I didn’t drink any diet coke. Yesterday, I made myself a small Salad for 3 PointsPlus (There is an awesome salad on the menu too!) and I drank 3 bottles of water! Eating a taco would have tasted great and I would have made it work for me and planned dinner accordingly. Knowing that I didn’t eat a taco, made me smile and I felt strong on my drive home. I cranked up the tunes and sang my heart out to a little Tracey Chapman.

IMG_2586

I went to Jazzercise, I mowed the yard and I drank 120 ounces of water.

Here is what I DID eat yesterday…..

Breakfast – 7 PPV

Frothy Coffee and Peanut Butter Packed Pancakes topped with 2 tsp Almond Butter with 1/2 thinly sliced Banana. Usually I make One Large pancake with this recipe, but I was curious how many mini’s I could make, and just how high I could stack them!

IMG_2572

My stack held up pretty darned good, too! Look at those banana slices buried in there!

IMG_2571

Lunch – 3 PPV

Mixed Greens, Blueberries, Red Onion, 3 T. Feta, 1 T. Dressing

IMG_2580

Dinner – 11 PPV

1 1/2 C. of Turkey Chili topped with Nonfat Greek Plain Yogurt

IMG_2591

Snack – 5 PPV

1 C. Nonfat Plain Greek Yogurt with Cinnamon Flavored Stevia drops, Cinnamon and Strawberries

Un-Pictured Raisins and Raw Almonds

Toothless Tucker…

September 9, 2015

My poor Little Tucker Man went to have his teeth cleaned yesterday (his breath smelled like rotten Tuna!) and he came home with 13 less teeth! He had his teeth cleaned about a year ago (again with the rotten tuna breath!) and came home with 5 less teeth. The Vet says that he apparently has a genetic issue that has caused his infected teeth. Poor guy. The Vet also told me that we will likely have to come back in less than a year and pull the rest of his teeth. There’s only a few left in there! Tucker is only five years old and otherwise super healthy and spunky. He definitely had a rough day yesterday though.

Look at that face. He didn’t move all night long.

IMG_2551

Tucker, not such a great day in the health department. Me, a great day in the health department. I worked prepping food for the food truck yesterday, and as tempted as I was to eat some of the cheese that we sliced, some of the juicy pork that we pulled, or a piece of the fresh bread when it was delivered (fresh baked bread smells soooo good!), I only had one taste of smoked corned beef and I ate 1/4 C of unsalted raw mixed nuts for my lunch.

After prepping food, I made a healthy snack at home, then I walked 3.5 miles before going to pick up my puppy.

It was a great day again, and that feels good.

Okay, let’s talk food…..

Sweet Potato Buns

I’m loving using a Sweet Potato as a Bun. The first time that I made Sweet Potato Buns a few weeks ago, I baked them and made Turkey Burger Sliders. Click HERE for that Sweet Potato Bun recipe. I loved the recipe.

IMG_1540

A week or so after that, I made them again (but my version) and topped them with Mexican Seasoned Chicken and Guac. Delish!

IMG_2217

I tend to get in a hurry, so now I have been making my own version of a sweet potato bun.

Ingredients

! Medium Sweet Potato

Directions

Wash and pat dry the sweet potato. Poke it several times with a fork. Cook potato for about 2 minutes in the microwave, flip it and cook another 2 minutes. (You could also bake your potato) You should be able to slide a fork into the potato. You may need an additional minute depending on the size of you potato, but don’t over cook. A mushy potato won’t work.

Slice it into 1/4″ slices, season with Cumin and Chili Powder and cook in a skillet with cooking spray or cooking oil until just a tad crispy!

IMG_2533

Here are all of yesterday’s eats….

Breakfast – 6 PPV

Egg White and Smashed Avocado Sandwiches on Sweet Potato Buns. Kiwi and Banana and Black Coffee.

IMG_2524

Lunch – 6 PPV

1/4 C Raw Mixed Nuts, and I just kept filling up that 8 oz. water bottle.

IMG_2535

Snack – 3 PPV

Egg White Omelette with Peppers, Onions, Potatoes…topped with Salsa

IMG_2538

Snack – 2 PPV

Pear, 1 tsp Almond Butter, 1 tsp Honey, a sprinkle of Chia Seeds

IMG_2545

Dinner – 9 PPV

Tilapia, Peas, Roasted Red Onions, Mushrooms, Carrots and Potatoes

One of Those Good Days!

September 8, 2015

I woke up knowing that yesterday had to be a really good day. I needed to make healthy choices. I needed to exercise. I needed to eat whole foods. I needed to makes good choices so that I could feel good. I did just what I needed to do and went to bed feeling great. The rest of the week will be great too.

I had so much to talk about in yesterday’s post, I didn’t mention how my WW meeting went on Friday. I did not weigh in. That number can jack with my mood sometimes, and I didn’t want to go into the weekend feeling cranky. I will weigh on Friday.

In our meeting last week, we discussed a “good week” and a “bad week”, or a “good day” and a “bad day” in our WW world, and what that means to us. It meant so many different things for so many different people.

For me, a “good day”  is when I’ve stayed within my points, ate a well balanced menu, drank my water and exercised. A “good week” for me is all of those same things, for 7 days, and completing any goals that I had set for myself. A “good week” leaves me feeling successful, satisfied, in control, happy and confident.

For me, a “bad day” is when I don’t eat a well balanced menu, I don’t plan, I make excuses for not exercising if I had planned to, I forget to drink all of my water, and I eat more points than I should have. Those days leave me feeling like I have failed my body. Three “bad days” out of a week, can leave me mentally feeling like I’ve had a “bad week”, even though I have learned to get right back on track.

I take something away from every meeting, and that subject matter was spot on for me. In my mind, I did have a “bad week” last week. I was looking forward to my meeting because the support there is always so great,  The members in my meeting have an overall positive frame of mind and attitude, they have a sense of humor, they have great advice and the positive vibe in the meeting is contagious. At my meetings, I am reminded how far I have come, that I am a work in progress and that I am a healthy person. Not going to a meeting after a “bad week” could easily lead to another “bad week”, and another “bad week”, and I made the decision a long time ago, that I would never let that happen.

It was a “bad week”, and that’s all that it was.

Yesterday was one of those “good days” and I feel great about it and the rest of the week.

I hope today is a “good day” for you in your health and your happiness!

Here are yesterday’s eats……

Pre-Breakfast – 1 PPV

Loved the Weekend!

September 7, 2015

I’m so happy when my kiddo comes to town. I miss her like crazy, but it makes our visits all that more special.

We had several things planned, and with so many food and drink challenges, my plan was to make the best choices that I could, and enjoy my daughter being in town. I picked up Tess and Manuel at the airport on Thursday morning. Our first stop, buy new Royals gear for the game on Saturday. Second stop, a little BBQ. I said I would order turkey, and I did. Turkey topped with slaw and a few stolen fries.

IMG_2366

I promised myself a Hot Yoga class on Thursday night, since my daughter and her boyfriend would be at a rehearsal dinner. Not really thinking about the fact that they would have my car, I did Hot Mowing instead. I know. I’m hilarious.

I also promised myself that I would walk Friday morning, then go to my WW meeting. I did both of those things!

IMG_2371

Manuel, my daughters boyfriend, (who I adore), and I spent Friday afternoon together since Tess was doing Bridal party stuff, and Mike has that job thing. I took Manuel to one of my favorite spots for lunch, The Beer Kitchen. I’ve never had anything there that I didn’t like. I ordered the Black Bean Burger and Sweet Potato Fries, he had the Fish and Chips. I ate half of the bun and the burger was awesome. The hardest part of lunch was only eating a few of those fries. Manuel’s Whiskey creeped into my lunch picture!

IMG_2379

I loved spending the afternoon getting to know the guy spending so much time with my kiddo. Mother Approved!

IMG_2376

Friday night was the wedding. I introduce you to Mr. and Mrs. Conway!

IMG_2390

Isn’t Madi beautiful? Tess and Madi met in grade school. They’ve grown up so fast!

IMG_2399

Tess and Manuel danced all night long, I chatted, danced, sipped on wine and stayed away from the Sweets Table that had so many of my favorites! With all of the great food that was there, I literally smelled the Peanut M&M’s (worst trigger sweet for me!) on someones breathe, and it was KILLING me!!

IMG_2420 IMG_2457

We had a great night!

IMG_2414

Saturday afternoon, we went to my nephews Congratulations Party! He just earned his PhD, and is now joining the Peace Corps, which he has talked about for a long time. I am so proud of him and it was great to listen to the excitement in his voice talking about the next two years of his life, teaching English to Grade School children in Samoa. Maybe Mike and i will go visit?? The pictures of the island are gorgeous, and I’m pretty sure my nephew would love a family visit!

This is Mike, Me, my mom (she is 4′-8″), Steve (the graduate!) and Tess.

IMG_2491

My mom met Manuel for the first time this weekend! We seriously crammed in a lot of stuff!

IMG_2493

At the party, I had a glass of wine and a few bites of really yummy snacks, then two beers at the Royals game. I packed a cooler of snacks to have before the game which included Raw Veggies and Guac, Turkey, Cheese and Crackers, a Giant Fruit Platter and lots of water bottles.

I made my first ever Stub Hub purchase and look where our seats were. Who’s at the plate??

IMG_2473

We lost. I was sad. We still had a great time though.

IMG_2486

We slept in on Sunday, and enjoyed a relaxing morning with brunch at home. I dropped off the kids at the airport in the afternoon and came home to a nice nap.

It was hard to count points all weekend with the wedding food and the party food, so I’m just assuming my 49 points are gone, and I’ll eat 26 points the rest of my WW week.

After my nap yesterday, I made a September plan for Food and Exercise.

Exercise

2 Yoga classes a week, 2 Jazzercise classes a week, and Walk 3 miles 2 times a week.

Food

I’m going back to the basics and eating from the WW Simply Filling foods list. If you are not a WW member, it’s basically Fruits, Veggies, Lean Protein, Whole Grains, Healthy Fats and Fat Free Dairy.

When I eat from that list, I eat much better without really feeing too restricted.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

Today I am cleaning, organizing and meal planning!

Breakfast – 6 PPV

Un-Pictured Granola, Frothy Coffee

A Wedding and a Royals game

September 3, 2015

It’s soooo true!

IMG_1344

I’m leaving in just a bit to pick up my daughter and her boyfriend, Tess and Manuel, from the airport. Tess is in a Wedding on Friday night, so the rehearsal dinner is tonight, we will all be at the reception on Friday night, and then on Saturday, we have my nephew’s graduation party in the afternoon, (he just got his PhD!) and then off to the KC Royals game Saturday night. It’s going to be a busy and fun weekend and of course, I’m always giddy when I get to see my kiddo!

I always post what I’ve had to eat for the day (or the last two days) and how many points I’ve had to eat. This has been a really unorganized WW week. I’ve planned nothing, I never really did grocery shop. Dinner on Tuesday night was literally nothing. I made some Tuna salad, but the salt spilled into it, and I just couldn’t eat it. Then I made a quesadilla with a Chili Lime Burger from Trader Joe’s, and I guess the burger was under cooked. I tossed it all and gave up on dinner. I had lunch at 3:30 that day, so I really wasn’t hungry anyhow. Last nights dinner was an egg and a piece of bacon, then a banana, then a few almonds, then some raisins. I won’t bore you with the pictures of what I did eat, but I will tell you that I ate too much this week, and I expect a gain at the scale. Unplanned, Unorganized, Un everything.

I’ve got some food and drink challenges over this long weekend, and I know that I’m not mentally prepared. I seem to have “checked out” this last week. I’m able to go to my WW meeting in the morning, so I’m going to take that time to try to prepare myself for the weekends challenges so I don’t let myself get completely out of control.

In July and August, I had an exercise plan to get in so many Yoga classed, so many Jazzercise classes, and walk. I did a pretty good job of getting in most of what I wanted to. I know my exercise was increased and that felt great. September 1st came, and in the back of my mind, I knew I hadn’t made any exercise goals for myself, so with a full schedule the last two days, I never did make time for any exercise.

Today, we are hitting up one of KC”s favorite BBQ spots. I’ll order turkey.

Tonight, I should be able to get to my Hot Yoga class and have a point friendly dinner at home while the kids are at the Rehearsal Dinner.

Tomorrow, I’ll start the day with an early morning walk and then my WW meeting and plan out the rest of my weekend.

I received a few comments and emails lately that I have really appreciated. Thank you to those of you that read the blog and identify with my literal ups and downs. Thank you for your concerns, your advice, and your very kind words. You guys are great and we all deserve to be taking the very best care of ourselves!

Have a Happy and Healthy Weekend and I’ll be back Monday morning!

WW Points

Life has been busy and fun these last several days, but for food…..I’ve eaten way too much!

I’ve tracked everything as best as I could. I’ve guessed on a lot of items over the last few days. I feel like it’s better to have an idea where I’m at than to not know at all. I’ve eaten my 49 Weekly Extra Points, I’ve eaten the activity points that I’ve earned, and I’ve eaten a few points that have now put me in the negative. The best thing that I can do is to keep tracking. This weekend coming up includes a visit from my daughter and her boyfriend, a wedding and our first KC Royals game this season. I’ll keep exercising, drinking water, thinking positive, making the best choices that I can in the different situations that I’m in, and tracking my points!

The Museum

Sunday morning, I slept in a bit, had coffee and watched one of my favorite TV shows, made breakfast, worked in the yard, showered, packed for a trip, had lunch at Mike’s parents with the family to celebrate Mike’s dad’s birthday, picked up a girlfriend of mine and together, we drove to Bentonville, Arkansas. Thats right. Road trip.

One of my favorite TV shows is CBS News Sunday Morning. I wouldn’t describe it as a news show, but more a show about “People”. Maybe a “Human Interest” show? I love sipping on my coffee on Sunday morning and hearing all of the great stories. I’ve got Mike hooked on it too.

Several months ago, they did a story on Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Arkansas. I decided, along with my friend, Becky, to take a road trip and visit the museum.

Sunday afternoon, we enjoyed our drive, got a hotel room, had a nice dinner out, watched some mindless TV and went to bed. Monday, we got coffee’s and Becky gave me a personal tour of Bentonville and some of it’s surrounding cities. She lived there for quite a while several years ago.

Did you know that Bentonville, Arkansas is where Walmart’s Sam Walton opened his first 5-10 store ? Do you care?

Here is where it all began. I think it’s cute.

After our coffee and a nice drive, we hit up the museum.

We enjoyed art, lunch and wine, more art, and a great drive home getting in lots of great girly talk!

Here are a few of my favorites from the museum.
