With Coffee…..anything is possible.

I really had a caffeine overload the last few days. This photo was taken before 6:00 a.m. on Thursday after a rough night in the hospital. Tess had IV complications, back pain, lots of tossing and turning, and little rest, but really…….who gets a good nights rest in the hospital? The good news? Tess was released from the hospital and sent home with a prescription for some antibiotics and hopefully to rest a little. I didn’t hear the rest part prescribed, but the “mom” in me thinks she needs it. I am not sure how much rest she will get after missing three full days of classes so early in the semester. Hopefully some. I am just so glad it wasn’t anything more serious. Prayers answered. 🙂 Thursday’s eats…. Day 2 in the Hospital…..bummer.

Well, better safe than sorry. It is clear that Tess has a Kidney infection, but unclear whether she has Kidney Stones. They are keeping her for another 24 hours so she can get a good heavy dose of antibiotics, and to do a more intense CT scan to look for stones. So at least one more day of movies, visits from friends, naps, snacks and girl chat. After sneaking into the empty bed beside Tess and catching a few zzzzz’s last night, my stiff neck from the last couple of mornings is so much better. NOT!!! But this is not about me. 🙂 At some point during the day, I climbed in bed with Tess, after fetching myself a Starbucks, her a hot tea, and some popcorn for us to share. We watched the original Arthur, thanks to Netflix. So funny. We needed a good laugh. Seriously…..how cool are computers […]

An Unexpected Visit To See Tess……In The Hospital

Tess turned 21, made her relationship “Facebook official”, and was hospitalized for the first time…….all in one week! Sidenote: When Tess made the phone call home, I was participating in Walking Club. Here is what I saw when I left the house at 5:50 a.m. to go walking. Eeekkkkk. I might take a flashlight next time. It seems as though Tess may have Kidney stones, which I hear is extremely painful! She for certain has a Kidney Infection. 🙁 I hated being an hour and a half away from her when she called, but I’m so happy she is close enough for me to go to. I guess it proves no matter how old your kids are, you want to be there when they’re sick. (She did not approve the above photo, however, I think it’s similar to her “First Day of School” photo that she did approve, so I […]

A Pain In The Neck

I wouldn’t say I woke up on the wrong side of the bed, because I woke up in a really good mood, but I certainly slept in the wrong position. I woke up with a terrible stiff neck! I googled “Pain in the Neck”, thinking I would find something animated to put here, you know, just for fun…….I found this……reminded me of myself. It’s like we’re twins…… But in sticking with my new written out weekly schedule, I decided to not let this keep me from working out before I did anything else today! I loaded up on Advil and ate breakfast, and let the drugs do their magic. Then I headed out for my walk. Walked with two friends for an awesome 60 minutes….(I might have just went 30 minutes alone. Thanks Girls!) Then I took the doggies for a Sniff & Stroll…… BreakfastEgg White Scramble with Cheese and […]

My First 5K!

Head for the Cure Foundation raises money and awareness to fight brain cancer. I love that so many charities have now found “Runs” as a way for people to donate money to a good cause, and get out and do something healthy! It felt great to be a part of something so important! I really did it! I mustered up the guts to register to run in a 5K. I know to some people, this must sound like such a trivial accomplishment, but for me, it was a milestone. The fact that I even had the desire to do that was huge, and it shows me how I have changed over the last three years in the “Taking Care of Me Department”. I met another blogger a while back, Racheal, who signed up to do Head for the Cure, and I thought I should sign up too! She is an […]

Great Choices, Great Day!

Today I made a schedule for myself to follow throughout the week. I know it will help me get on track with things, and I will feel more organized and productive, which will lead to the “Happy Me” that I’ve been missing. I had my drinks at the Lake, and I had my drinks with my daughter for her birthday. Now……no more until I reach 150 pounds….. Let the fun begin! "Life is a journey, not a destination"

Diana Nyad is the 62 year old woman who recently attempted to swim from Cuba to Florida. This was not her first attempt at this swim. Due to weather, jellyfish stings and hypothermia, among many other obstacles, Diana had to be pulled from the water, and was not able to complete the swim. I was fascinated by her story, her goal, and her determination. Shortly after being pulled from the water, she was interviewed. When asked her thoughts on not being able to finish the swim, she replied that……It was more about the journey, than the destination. She was disappointed in not being able to finish, but the real story here was her attempt at making that swim. The dedicated training, and the actual swimming through jellyfish and shark infested waters! I later discovered that was a famous quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson. I don’t recall hearing this quote before, […]

Finding Balance….or….Trying to Find Balance

Let’s just say…..if I were on a beam (the balance beam) right now, I’d fall off. My mood has sucked the last couple of weeks. Just ask Mike. (Sorry, honey. You truly are a very patient man.) I can’t seem to focus on anything, or sleep. I don’t have a regular schedule right now for anything…..sleep, exercise, work, meals. So unlike me. I need a schedule of some sort to be at my best. When I don’t have one, it’s like I can’t decide what to do first or where to go first. Then I procrastinate on everything while I am trying to figure how to properly prioritize it all. Then anxiety sets in, and I suck at life and all of the important things that make life so good. So that’s what’s going on. And, I’m a 45 year old woman with an empty nest. I just feel like […]
