I seem to be having a hard time establishing any kind of a routine at all. It seems harder to get anything done when I’m not working than when I am working. Part of me thinks, “Well, I can focus on that tomorrow”. Part of me thinks, “I am supposed to be resting”. Another part of me is just having a hard time focusing on anything at all. This is what the fridge looks like most days. When I do cook, I shop for just the food I need for the next two days or so because really, nothing sounds good. I have no real appetite. Nothing taste amazing. I’m doing stretches and taking short walks, but I’m not participating in step bets or doing any walking challenges, and frankly, each time I start to blog, I’m not sure what to say. I am feeling super disconnected from the blog, but […]

My Girl
I unexpectedly went to Dallas to visit Tess this past week. There was an urgent significance for my trip to Dallas. I called my doc to see if I could go, and I was told that as long as I didn’t carry over 10 pounds and wore compression socks, I could go. I ordered the best compression socks that I could find (I love you Amazon Prime!), put a change of underwear and socks in my purse and went to Dallas. I left Tuesday morning and arrived in time for Tess to pick me up from the airport, then head off to work for the day while I snuggled with Tucker. Tess took Wednesday off and we spent the day together doing what we do best, dining on patios and hitting up the biggest Target we could find. I came home late Wednesday night. Tess and I had decided that […]
Trailer Dreams
We had a beautiful light snow all day yesterday that went from tiny flakes to huge flakes then back to tiny flakes. They seemed to melt as soon as they hit the green grass. Pretty and weird all at the same time. I spent the majority of the day curled up in my chair by the fire sipping on coffee or hot tea, shopping for my dream vintage trailer. My butt was numb at the end of the day from sitting, so I went to bed and counted trailers. I love following vintagecampertrailers on Instagram! These are just a few of my favorites and I’m hoping to find one similar. I love how tiny and cute they are. I may even buy a cute dress to match my trailer for the fancy camping days. Red dress, red trailer? You know, after a day on the […]
Rest, Then Play
It is so strange how just running a few errands and being out of the house can wear a person out after two weeks of doing nothing. Friday I chilled. Friday night, in the middle of the night, I had to get up two times to change my completely wet clothes. Hot flashes and now night sweats. Hot damn! literally. HOT DAMN! Saturday, Mike and I car shopped. Early last summer I bought a Kayak. I took it out one time before my mastectomy. One of the things that I am most looking forward to is getting that kayak out on the water when the weather warms up! Getting it on top of my car was almost impossible to do alone, so I was going to need to trade vehicles with Mike if I wanted to take it out. Not convenient. If you have been reading the blog for a while, […]
Check Out These Pants!
One of the unexpected surprises of writing a blog is that occasionally companies offer to send free stuff in exchange for a review! I have only said yes to this a few times as I only want to review products that I am actually interested in or products that I think my readers will be interested in. When I got an email from Gear Bunch offering me free leggings in exchange for a review, I said absolutely! I was mostly excited about all of the colorful patterns they had to choose from. I’m talking TONS of choices! When I received my leggings, I immediatley loved the feel of the fabric. Nice and soft. Thin, but not so thin that you could see through them (which I have a few of those!) and thick enough for good support without feeling too tight. They gave me several options to choose from. How cute is this Elephant […]
Driving Privileges. Yay!
What a great day! Not only did I get a blog posted yesterday, but now that I can drive again, I met a friend for lunch and ran two errands. It’s the simple things like driving the car and running errands that remind me that life will be back to 100% in no time at all. I came home and rested for a bit, then I hopped on the treadmill for a leisurely mile followed with some arm exercises in hopes of loosening things up. I have some tight areas in my arms and chest that will hopefully loosen up with some regular movement. I listened to my body, didn’t do too much and ended the day feeling great. Not a huge fan of the treadmill, so hoping for some warmer weather soon so I can get outside! For now, this old girl will do. I haven’t actually tracked […]
It’s All Good!
On Monday, I had a post-op appointment with the Plastic Surgeon. This is my sweet Becky. When I say I took a walk with Becky, it’s this chick. I’m really looking forward to our walks this Spring and Summer! She drove me to my appointment since I hadn’t been released from the gyno to drive just yet. Everything is healing nicely and I should be able to go binder free after two more weeks! The binder is super uncomfortable, but it helps the body to contour, so I’ll keep wearing it knowing it’s helping me have a good shape! After my diagnosis, my breast surgeon had me stop taking the birth control pill. I had taken it for years for the hormones. I was a nervous wreck to not take it for fear that my mood would be all over the place. I stopped taking it several years ago […]
Rebirth? Kinda Feels Like It
I’m not even kidding. I woke up Easter morning and thought to myself, He’s alive and so am I! A little feeling of “Rebirth” with my pal Jesus if you will. I was looking forward to an Easter tradition and I was feeling rested and good. Mike and I spend Easter with his side of the family almost every year. At least, I don’t feel like we’ve missed too many years of this tradition. Mike’s mom is one of nine children (three girls, six boys) and every Easter the entire family (four generations now, unless it’s five and I’m missing that?) gathers for a Pot Luck. It’s always fun to see the family continue to grow with new babies and new fiancés and watch the little ones fill their baskets after dinner. This is Mike’s mom on the far right. These are her two beautiful sisters. Mike’s mom is going to be 80 […]
Finally Feeling Cancer Free
July 21st, Breast Cancer Diagnosis. Surgery 1. August 31st, Double Mastectomy. Surgery 2. December 14th, Died Flap Breast Reconstruction. Surgery 3. March 21st, Total Hysterectomy and Breast Revisions. That’s three surgeries with six weeks each of recovery. That’s like four months of recovery and healing! I still have some breast revisions (just touch ups), but they will be minor and they will be outpatient. These revisions are no surprise as they were expected as a part of the DIEP flap breast reconstruction process. It’s a complicated breast reconstruction, but I knew that going into it. These revisions will not require me to take any time off work, other than maybe a day or two, but taking 6 weeks off after a surgery is now OVER! I had my last big surgery on Wednesday, March 21st, and came home the following day. My daughter Tess came in from Dallas for a week […]
