When the news first began breaking about the coronavirus I had several days there where I felt completely numb and I was eating any feelings that I did have. I got off track for a few days and I was feeling it in my body. I pulled my head out of my….well you know. I started tracking my food regularly and getting back into the routine that I know makes me feel my best. For whatever reason the last four or five days I started to get off track again. I think our lack of Easter celebration and knowing we wouldn’t be able to visit the new grand baby was wearing on me more than I realized.
I have not blogged on a daily basis since 2017, back when life kind of fell apart. I also started working at WW in 2017 and Blogging each day didn’t really fit into my schedule. Blogging for me was such an awesome accountability tool. Right now I am needing some extra accountability. I’ve selfishly blogged as my own accountability tool, but readers have shared that it can help them stay on track as well, so I’m committing to giving an old fashioned Julie blog try. If you are struggling right now maybe this will help you as well!
When I blog daily, I tend to be a little bit more creative with my meals as I hope to give others ideas. Remember, I am terrible at recipes but I am pretty good at throwing together a different combination of foods that can keep things interesting. When I get bored it seems easier for me to get off track. When I keep things interesting it is easier for me to stay on track with my food choices and my activity.
Activity
We talk about activity a lot in our WW workshops. There are so many health benefits to being active or exercise or working out. Whatever you like to call it. Whatever works best for you. Yes, activity does help with weight loss. Activity can help in maintaining weight loss. But there are so many other health benefits. Decreased risk in depression, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, certain cancers. People that are more active are also likely to sleep better. I know that when I sleep better I feel happier. Studies show that happier people do make healthier choices and I would say that I make better choices for myself when I am well rested. I also know that when I am active I sleep better. Many people don’t love activity and I totally get it. I’m not always eager to put my shoes on and head out the door so I do often have to remind myself of how good I feel when I’m outside actually on my walk. Being active is great for our Mental Wellness. I recently heard that term, Mental Wellness, and I like the way that sounds. We can do several things right now for our mental wellness, and staying active is one of those things.
I love being outside. I love feeling the sun. I love to take walks with no music and no phone. I see things differently when I’m not on my phone. I appreciate the outdoors differently when I’m not on my phone. I feel so incredibly satisfied at the end of a long walk. I know that I did my body good. I think about the days I spent thinking about taking a walk and never made it out the door that day. Those are the evenings I spent feeling frustrated with myself and kicking myself. I have learned in my WW workshops to plan for a short workout. Plan to do something for 15 minutes. Not every walk has to be 3 miles or 4 miles or 5 miles. Some walks can be 15 minutes long. More often than not that 15 minute walk will turn into a 20 minute walk or a 30 minute walk or longer. And, if it’s a 15 minute walk, then that works too! Our bodies can benefit so much from taking a 15 minute walk every day.
I walked 3 miles late yesterday afternoon and it was beautiful outside! I have never noticed the blooms on the trunks of these trees before, but aren’t they gorgeous?
Okay, old school style for me. (I sound like I’m a hundred years old.)
Here are yesterdays eats!
Water
I absolutely LOVE that we can again track water in the WW App! I’m a big water drinker, but there are days when I have forgotten and I’m trying to get it all in late in the day, them I’m up all night making potty trips. Or I decide not to drink as much as I would like to.
The visual on the app is a nice reminder for me to grab my water!
I have 437 water bottles, but for some reason I am currently drinking out of this white plastic cup. It is 16 ounces and I can down this 16 ounces with no trouble at all. I prefer tap water, no ice. It doesn’t seem like much to me visually. Sometimes looking at my ginormous water bottles feels like SO. MUCH. WATER.
So, for whatever reason, this is currently working for me. I’m filling this cup up 5-6 times a day, which is 80-96 ounces. I love the way my body feels when I’m getting my water in.
How about you? Water drinker?
Breakfast
My current coffee drink (I go through phases) includes a variety of flavored K-cups, Vanilla stevia drops and 2-4 T of this unsweetened Almond milk.
This little bowl of blueberry mess is great alone or as a side with eggs or on top of a bowl of steel cut oats. Oh! This would also be yummy on top of pancakes or waffles.
I microwave 1/2 – 1 C of fresh blueberries with 1/8 C of this granola (I buy this at Costco) for 1 minute, then drizzle 1 tsp of nut butter over the top and let it melt for a bit. YUM. Think Blueberry Crisp, or maybe even Peanut Butter and Jelly Crisp. Also makes a great afternoon snack with a cup of tea. You’re Welcome.
Lunch
I made the WW Sheet Pan Chicken Fajitas again this week and it was nice to have plenty of leftovers for lunch the following day. This meal is SOOOO easy.
Dinner
I forgot to set anything out to thaw and just happen to buy a ham steak this week for a breakfast variety. I love making breakfast for dinner when I need something quick!
Ham and Eggs, fresh fruit. Easy.
Okay, this took longer than I thought because I’m just so dang wordy, but hopefully you saw something tasty or different that you might like to try, or perhaps you feel inspired to get in a walk.
Mommy and baby came home yesterday! Look at that face! My heart is so full.
“love the life you live, live the life you love”
Oh good Diane! And that baby. Oh my goodness 💕💕💕
Your accountability helps us wanna stay more accountable. Just sayin’ … so thank you! Again. And how cute is that new grandbaby?!
Nancy, I’m glad you found the Barry mess interesting. It is yummy! And that tree! But the baby really is the best thing in the whole post.💕💕💕
Yes, I did see somethings of interest: berry mess, gorgeous tree, and one cute baby.
