Funny Thing Happened

Before sharing the Funny, I have to share this with you!

I Love My WW Members!

Such a great Workshop yesterday. During the first half of the Workshop we discuss what is working, what isn’t and how we can continue to do the things that work and how we can make changes to the things that are not working.

One member shared how this week she had some recent feelings of frustration with having to track her food and the many other things she was doing in her life that were all in the name of good health. This week she decided to look at the work she was doing and the time she was putting into taking care of herself as an opportunity to, in her words “manage my health”. She turned her thinking around and decided that it was not something she HAD to do, but something she GETS to do!

What an amazing mindset transformation!

“Managing my health”

I decided to make it my mantra this week. Maybe it can be yours too?

Offered seconds? “No thank you, I’m managing my health”

Deciding if to take that walk today or not? “Of course! I’m managing my health.”

Creating a bedtime routine? “Yep. I’m managing my health!’

Giving yourself grace? “Well yes, I’m managing my health.”

Love it!

A Funny Thing Happened

While Mike was gone one afternoon, I decided to re-pot the one and only live plant in our house. After a successful plant pot transfer, I went down under the deck to put the bag of potting soil away. I opened the door to the storage area, stepped inside and the wind blew the door shut behind me and I heard the latch drop. My hands immediately went to my pockets only to realize what I already knew, no phone. Slight panic. I knew it was around 5:00, but I had no idea if Mike would be home soon or closer to 7:00, which is not uncommon. I remained fairly calm, I mean I knew eventually I would get out, I just wasn’t sure when? Wait. Would I hear Mike come home while I was down there under the deck? Would he come home and assume I was on a walk and not look for me? That was a real possibilty. What could I use to bang on the house so he’d hear me? Okay, maybe I just figure out a way to get out of here and not wait for Mike to come home. There was enough daylight that I could see and I looked around for something that I could stick between the two doors and get to the latch. Well that wasn’t happening. I realized I could fit lawn tool handles out of the gap just above the doors as there was a little bit of give in them. So, I poked a few tools out, waved them around while hollering my next door neighbors names. Then I only waved the rake with the red handle hoping to catch someones attention. More nothing, Then I decided to toss tools out of the 3″ gap, along with a few scraps of wood. Someone will surely see lawn tools and wood scraps flying out of from under the deck and that will save me! Really, only two of our neighbors have the ability to see that part of our yard. Then I started thinking, what if I see a mouse? Or worse, a snake? I really didn’t want to have to break a hinge or a door, but thinking about seeing a mouse or a snake got the best of me. After 15 minutes that felt more like 60 minutes, I took a deep breath and with all my might kicked at the small space between the doors at the spot of the latch, opening them both! Surprisingly, nothing broke. Not the doors or the hinges or the tiny little latch that had me trapped in there. I only bent the latch a little. The doors opened to a side yard full of tools and wood scraps that I’d tossed out and not a neighbor in sight. Not even a squirrel. Turns out I likely could have pushed really hard and gotten out right after the doors shut behind me. LOL. My escape was uneventful and the more I thought about the whole situation, I thought it would make a great sitcom scene. Modern Family fans, can you imagine Phil Dumphy in this scenario? Cracking up.

Anyhow, all good over here. Note to self. Always prop door open with something when home alone……..

Excited to be Making Plans

The thumb stitches will come out next week and I have to stay hopeful that all thumb complications are behind me. I’m getting some camping trips on the calendar. I’m having lots of thoughts of heading down the open road pulling Effie behind me, relaxing in the kayak on a lake, morning coffee at a campsite, evenings around the campfire, discovering new hiking trails and making more camping memories.

I have a trip booked in Effie at my favorite campsite with the oldest granddaughter at the end of April.

I booked a cabin at that same lake as we will have three of our grandkids with us one weekend in May and I’ve wondered what the little cabins are like there. They all overlook the lake so I know the view will be great and the kids will have a blast.

Mike and I are planning a trip with some friends of ours at the end of May and we are both really looking forward to that!

I am going to the 16th Annual Symphony in the Flint Hills in June with my high school girlfriends. My girlfriends and I will park, then walk an hour (That’s right! We are paying to do this! lol) to a magical setting where we will sip wine and listen to the Kansas City Symphony while watching the sunset on the Flint Hills of Kansas. I’ve wanted to go for a few years. It just feels like something a Kansan should do at least once.

Recent Eats

You really can pick this Pumpkin version of my oatmeal up and eat it, so I did! Drizzling with 1 tsp of Pure Maple Syrup was a great little addition.

Taking advantage of the chicken Tess cooked up when she was here. This Chicken Salad is packed with cucumbers, celery, onions and grapes.

I’m always looking to try new foods and found these Cauliflower Gnocchi at Trader Joe’s. Loving the simple list of ingredients. I cooked these in the skillet which gave them a nice crisp outside. We just finished off the last of the Turkey Burgers Tess prepared while she was here. Adding a bag of salad for a simple meal.

I hadn’t bought a shrimp cocktail from Costco in a while and love having these in the fridge for lunch or a snack for a few days. I decided to pass on the cocktail sauce and sub in smashed avocado instead and actually liked it better!

That’s what’s happening here.

I hope you’re all doing well! Until next time!

  1. Hey you! Yeah, it’s been a crazy few months. So happy to hear you got your second shot! That sounds super super organized.
I hope you’re doing great and enjoying your spring!
    Hugs!!

  2. I just read your March posts. You have been through a lot. Hope your hand is doing better.

I finally got my second shot at the Cerner location. That is about the most organized thing I have ever seen. They do about 4,000 shots a day and it moves so quick. The only waiting is the observation area where you sit 15 minutes. I will still wear a mask when I am around people and of course social distance.

I have a couple of friends who think I am too cautious but I don’t care. I don’t tell them what to do so don’t tell me. My daughter says I have no filter LOL.
I enjoy you blog whether you talk about your health, what you eat or your family. I just enjoy you good and upbeat attitude.

  3. Oh my gosh Jennifer. I absolutely love the story of your MIL on the roof. 😂 I can so see that happening to me. Thankfully she wasn’t up there long!
I hope you’re having a great week going into an even better weekend!

  4. Always happy to share my stories. 😂I love the mantra as well! Hope you’re doing well. Miss you bunches.🥰

  5. Your “Funny” moment reminded me of something that happened to my mother in law last summer. She got on her roof to blow off leaves and sticks using her blower. Not a very tall roof, but a roof just the same and she needed a ladder to get up on top of it. She then proceeded to blow off the leaves and sticks; however she was moving farther away from the ladder and pulled on the extension chord because she needed more slack. It didn’t budge, so she pulled harder and then heard a crash. The ladder she used to get on the roof had tipped over when she pulled on the extension chord. So, she had no way to get off the roof, unless to jump which wasn’t a very good option, and she lives alone. It was during the day, so she knew neighbors would eventually come home but they worked so she thought she could be on the roof for hours. Luckily she only had to wait about 15 minutes and one of her neighbors came home for lunch. She waived to them from the roof and asked if they could come over and pick up her ladder, haha!
Anyways, just wanted you to know you are not alone (:
