Some Things are Worth Waiting For

Mike had been wanting to remodel our master bath for years. He had this big tile shower that he wanted to build. He had walked me through what he wanted to do several times. I loved all of his ideas. We have lived here for almost 20 years.Mike actually designed and built our house. The upstairs carpet had never been replaced and we had carpet in our master bath. Gross, I know. Mike began this project in June, 2017.     Anyone remember when we discovered we had bats??? It was all during this bathroom remodel! We think they’re gone?   The bathroom looked like this for a really really long time. Like…..a really long time.   I can see myself in the mirror in this picture. I’m on crutches. That means that this picture was taken one year after this project started. I was now going down to the basement to […]

Trying a Few New Things

Happy Tuesday. I hope you’re week is off to a great start. I switched things up today. For years I have gone to a Friday meeting. Those are now called workshops. Since I now work at a Friday workshop I’m having a hard time finding a workshop of my own to attend as a member. I’ve played with a few different days and times and trying to find the best one that works into my schedule. There is actually a Workshop close to my house that is held at a church on Tuesday mornings. Today I made it official and changed my weigh in day on my app to Tuesdays and decided that is going to be my new regular Workshop. If you are a WW member then you understand how changing your weigh in day can affect your thought process for the week. It sounds silly to some, but watching those points and […]

Let the Christmas Shopping Begin!

I spent last weekend out of town with some girlfriends, and although the trip was planned for shopping, I wasn’t really expecting myself to accomplish much. I just shop better alone. Well, surprise! After that trip, I’ve continued my shopping mojo this week and now I’m almost done! It was such a great weekend. We stayed at a condo in Branson. We were directly across the street from the Outlet Mall and within minutes of The Landing, which is the cutest litte shopping area along a waterfront. We arrived Friday early evening and stayed in for the night, chatting, giving each other foot massages, doing face mask, drinking wine, playing games….all while listening to either Christmas Music or Lifetime and Hallmark movies in the background. How perfect is that?   I stopped at Costco before heading out of town and grabbed two small shrimp platters, an olive platter, lots of raw […]

It Feels So Good to Feel So Good

With each day I am feeling more and more like “me”. I was starting to feel like myself in May, then my knees started giving me trouble. I’ve had so many days over the last few months of feeling frustrated and trying so hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It just wasn’t in sight. I envisioned going into 2019 feeling sluggish and defeated. Well, I am finally starting to feel better. I went to my physical therapy appointment yesterday for my knee post surgery. I had one more appointments scheduled, but he said that I  seemed to be doing so good that he released me. I graduated from physical therapy! This past week I’ve been doing 2 miles regularly on the treadmill along with a yoga video with only mild discomfort. It feels so good to be able to do a plank on my wrist. […]

Short. Simple.

Short and simple post, but Tuesday felt like the old Julie and it was a really good day. I knocked out five loads of laundry, paid bills, tried a new Yoga Video and walked 2 miles on the treadmill. The knees felt great and for the first time, I was able to sit crossed legged during Yoga, do a downward dog and even a plank on my wrist! The doc called to tell me that my aneurysm CT scan was back and that it showed no changes in size. That means I don’t have to do anything for another year, then we’ll look at it again. Yay! This is great news! I utilized my leftovers and planned a few simple things for the rest of the week. For breakfast I made pancakes using this mix I buy at Costco. No added sugar! I already feel better after eliminating sugar for the […]

All Our Kids

Well, as you can imagine, life has been busy over here. My last post was the 15th and that feels like about a month ago! That Friday, I had a slumber party with three little girls. We had an absolute blast. I had been wanting to have my 4, 6 and 8 year old grand daughters over for a sleepover, but my body kept getting in the way of doing that. Finally it happened and we had so much fun. These are truly three of the sweetest girls I know. After dinner that night, the four of us went to the exercise room here at our house. I don’t remember how this ever got started, but these girls love to do Yoga together in my exercise room. I get out the Yoga mats that I have, and we grab towels for extra mats if needed. I teach, they teach, we all […]

I Love Finding New Recipes

I headed out the door on Monday in the snow to go to a WW meeting, (dang it! Workshop), then to the grocery store since we literally had no food. I decided it was nastier outside than I realized, so I skipped the Workshop and went right to the grocery store. I can’t believe it has snowed here twice now! Pretty, but a tad too soon. I did however go to a workshop first thing Tuesday morning. Such a great topic this week discussing Mindful Eating. I feel like I might be starting to establish some sort of a schedule for myself. My Monday and Tuesday options both have great Wellness Coaches and the Workshops are always lively. I do however miss my Friday group. Hi ladies if any of you are reading! I miss your faces, your hugs, your laughs and your stories. It was a nice two days at home cooking. I […]

More Snow

It’s snowing here again this morning. We have zero groceries, so I likely should have paid attention to the forecast yesterday! I’ve got the day to myself, so snow boots and a hoodie sound like my attire for the day. I met my dad for breakfast on Saturday to celebrate his birthday. After that, I came home and lounged for the majority of the afternoon, then got a few simple chores done around the house. Friday’s surgery was simple and the only limitations are no lifting over 5 lbs with my right hand. I feel great so I’m happy to not be all drugged up and lazy. Sunday was Liz’s Celebration of Life and it was perfect. Liz picked the venue and things were just as she wanted them. Liz wanted nothing more than to bring her family and friends together so they could all share with one another how […]

Snowfall, Fall Snow?

Let me share with you what we’ve been so fortunate to look at over these las few weeks here in Kansas.     I wish I had more pictures of the snow sitting on top of the leaves.     And this is why I have to buy new cushions! When will I learn to bring those inside?   Green grass, Fall Colors and a little snow. Sneak in a tulip and we’ve got all Four Seasons!   I am so not ready for snow but I must say this has been a beautiful sight to see. We’ve had so many beautiful trees this fall, and now we’ve had a light snowfall that put a beautiful dusting of white on top of it. It truly is gorgeous. Mike and I were out the door yesterday morning shortly after 5:30 am. I had a quick surgery on my right hand/wrist/thumb, a […]

Eating Clean & Simple

Monday and Tuesday are now my weekend, kinda. I don’t work on Monday or Tuesday now so I am trying to make those my errand days and meal prep days. Sometimes a meal prep day simply means I plan out what we’re going to have for the week. Sometimes just knowing what we are going to be eating can save time later in the week. This week I made Betsy’s Zucchini Soup , a Fall Chopped Salad a Beef and Pork Meatloaf and a tray of Roasted Veggies. We ate that all week long and it was a perfect little variety. If you go to my recipe tab, I have a few links to favorite recipes from other sites. I forgot how much Mike loved that meatloaf! I’m trying to eat as little processed foods as possible in hopes of my joints and just my body in general feeling better and […]
