I have lived in the same city for my entire life and so has my husband. Neither of us has ever had a job to take us away, and I suppose that neither of us has ever had the desire to move away. Both of our parents live here too and I would imagine that we will always call Kansas our home. (Unless of course, one of the kids ends up on a beach somewhere and begs us to move closer to them. Then…maybe.) Tess was the first of our four children to move when she took her job with Southwest Airlines in Dallas a few years ago. We have handled the move well and we are able to take advantage of free flights and get to see each other fairly often. One of our other daughters, Anne, and her husband moved to Oklahoma this weekend. Her husband accepted a job, they […]

Craft Day!
Making this a quick post! After a stroll down every single isle in Hobby Lobby yesterday while sipping on hot coffee on a cloudy day, I came home and made this. I cleaned the dirt out of these mason jars that previously had herbs in them. I was going to replant herbs, but I couldn’t stop thinking about a centerpiece. I looked at a few ideas on Pinterest, then bought moss, crocheted ribbon and a few flowers. The rest are items that I had at home. I think I like it! For now anyhow. Later in the afternoon, I met one of my WW co-workers and some of her friends to celebrate her birthday. Can you think of a better card from one WW member to another??? A few beers and some Edamame with the girls, dinner at home, then to our friends for some WII […]
A Full Day at Home
I work an early WW meeting on Thursday as a receptionist and then I am typically home by 9:00 am. Yesterday Mike was gone all day (he works mostly from home) and had plans for a golf game late in the day. I had the house to myself all day so you know I made a big “to do list” and attacked it. A friend stopped by as I was thinking about breakfast and was at my house until after noon, so breakfast was lunch. We had a great chat, so i didn’t mind at all, I was just starving! I spent the rest of the afternoon planning my Ebay sale. I’ve never done that before but I have a few things that I think I should put on Ebay rather than in a garage sale. One thing led to another and I ended up melting the last of the […]
Meet Lindsey, my WW Sister!
Isn’t she the cutest? She has had such a successful year on Weight Watchers and what an inspiration! You can follow her journey on Instagram at gimmiesomebites. I was working a WW meeting several weeks ago when Lindsey came up to me and asked me if I was Julie from The Weight of my Weight. We had been following each other on Instagram but had never met. I was so glad that she introduced herself! We have been trying to get together and walk and it finally happened yesterday. We walked and talked for about two hours! (I could have talked to her forever.) Lindsey has a Fitbit too, and let me just say that we got some steps in yesterday! We had a great chat and I feel like I’ve known her forever. I’m looking forward to many more steps with Lindsey. And……Lindsey is also a beer lover! We chatted […]
Steps and Scampi
Steps I hadn’t taken a long walk with Becky in a while, but that changed yesterday. We didn’t go at a super fast pace, but we did get in a long walk. Look where that walk put me for my steps at the end of the day! Yay. Over 15,000! Fitbit was very happy for me! Needless to say, I had some aching feet before getting into bed last night but it felt good to get in a long walk. I have a walking date scheduled this afternoon with someone that I met via Instagram. I was working a WW meeting several weeks ago, and she came up to me and asked me if I was Julie from The Weight of my Weight. She said she thought I looked like her. I was so glad that she said something! Since then, we have been texting back and forth and trying to […]
I say “Whatever Works, Do That”
I woke up wanting to feel thirty something, so I chose my t-shirt wisely. Maybe I’m three. I don’t know. Mickey just makes me feel young. I say, “Whatever works, do that”. Tucker and I headed to the park. Just saying “I’m going to the park”, makes me feel young. The weather made it a great park morning. This Bat House is on the walking trail. Why on earth would I disturb the bats?? I actually picked up my pace as I walked by the bat house. After the park, I decided to make dinner early and have it ready for later. I was playing with a Shepherds Pie. I do not have a recipe, and I’m fairly certain that I make it different every time. Sauté Celery, Carrots, Onions and Garlic in Olive Oil, add salt and pepper, then add Beef or Turkey and cook through. Next, […]
A Happy Weekend
It was a great Easter Sunday yesterday. My mother in law is one of nine children. There were six boys and three girls. They grew up on a farm in Eastern Kansas. I never did get to meet Mike’s grandpa, but I had the opportunity to meet Mike’s grandma before she passed away several years ago. I also had the opportunity to meet the three uncles that have now passed. As you can imagine, with nine children and now four generations later, the family has really grown and each year for Easter, the family has dinner together. Easter was always at the family farm, and I remember taking our kids and being able to be a part of that. The family has grown so much over the years, it’s just too much for Aunt Lucille (who now lives on the family farm), so the family meets at a community center […]
An AARP Kind of Day
I’m writing this all when I am way too tired, so please excuse any and all sentences that make no sense at all and any random babbling. Wednesday after working the food truck, I headed out for a two mile walk with Tucker. I have driven this particular route and I know for a fact that it is two miles. I was curious to see just how accurate my Fitbit is. I was looking forward to our walk. About five houses away I stepped off of the curb and tweaked my back. What the &@#$??? I slowly walked Tucker back home and with each tug of the leash from him, I winced. I walked around the house for just a few minutes and decided that it wasn’t so bad after all and I went back out. By myself this time. About three houses away from home, it happened again. I went home. The […]
I’m now a Step Counter
(This is not a sponsored post.) Well, I did it. I bought a Fitbit. I have gone back and forth on whether I wanted a fitness tracker ever since fitness trackers were introduced. Honestly, I didn’t want something telling me when I wasn’t being active, so I had decided that it wasn’t for me. It took me a long time to get to a place where I didn’t feel guilty about so many things that were related to my diet and exercise. I didn’t want to deal with a fitness tracker telling me that I needed to move if I hadn’t done so in the time that it thought that I should. Make sense? I love to walk and I love my yoga classes (although it seems like forever since I made it to Yoga!), but I’ve now become increasingly curious about how active I really am on those days that I […]
Family, Friends, Work and Play
Working I had the opportunity to sub as a Leader for my mentor/trainer over the last few days and I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY MEETING! I am a receptionist for her on Thursday mornings at an At Work meeting and last Thursday, I led the meeting. I was nervous because although I have worked this particular meeting as a receptionist and I know these members fairly well, I had some pretty big shoes to fill, so I was a tad nervous. One of the members lightened my nerves and started the meeting by sharing a dream that she had about the meeting. She told everyone that she had a dream that I was funny. That was it. That was the dream. I’m such a weirdo because it made me happy that she had a dream about me leading the meeting. I’m very easily entertained at times. The meeting went […]
