A Positive Mind

I’ve filled my mind with positive thoughts over these last several days. I am an optimist. In time, all will be back to normal. I spent yesterday in bed, again. I watched another favorite movie, Scent of a Woman. I love that movie. I napped off and on all day. In between naps, I checked my email, and I discovered an exciting one! In the past year, I’ve been listed on a couple of websites as a Top Weight Loss Blogger. When I look at the other blogs that are on the list, I have no idea how my little blogging corner of the world is discovered by these people, but I must admit, it makes me feel good to be included on these list, and I greatly appreciate the exposure. I really don’t know the logistics of how blog traffic works or how people actually find my blog, but […]

Bed Day

I spent the day in bed yesterday, minus meals and a shower.  I watched one of my favorite movies, Julie and Julia. It’s all about food, cooking and blogging. What’s not to love? This flu thing is no fun at all, that I know for sure. I spent most of Tuesday coughing, and yesterday I tried to speak very little, and that seemed to keep the coughing to a minimum. I woke up early this morning super wheezy and that sent me into a coughing frenzy. I took a hot shower, took all of my drugs and climbed back into bed. I have a slight fever so Mike is really trying to keep his distance. He is picking up Tess at the airport today while I give bed one more day. I hate to think of Tess coming home only to go back to Dallas with the flu!  My biggest concern now is feeling […]

This is Life

You all are the best. Thank you so much for your comments, text messages and emails of encouragement over the last few days. Over the last several days, I have found myself saying this over and over. This is Life. And it really is. It’s just the difficult part.  Saturday, my mom and I went to visit my moms cousin, who lives about 45 minutes away and doesn’t drive. My mom doesn’t like to drive and driving too far gives her major anxiety. That has made visits to see her cousin few and far between. Of course I feel guilty because I know that me driving us there is the only way that we will all see each other. My moms cousin doesn’t hear very well and I don’t think her hearing aids have ever worked too great, so phone conversations are difficult. We’ve tried letter writing and that hasn’t gone […]

Stress Management

(I wrote this post on Saturday morning.) I’m sitting in a First Watch (my “go to” breakfast spot) blogging from my phone, which I’ve never done before.  I worked two WW meetings this morning and I left my house around 7:00 am. I loved working this morning and taking my thoughts off of this past week. Last Sunday, my daughter unexpectedly came in from Dallas for just a few hours to see an ailing elderly family member. It was an emotional day and it has been an emotional week keeping updated, not really knowing what will happen over the next several days. Everyone is staying strong, but admittedly it has been a difficult week. On Friday night I received a phone call of yet another ailing elderly family member. Her only family is myself and my mom and she lives alone about 45 minutes away. When I finish my breakfast, I’m picking […]

Mother’s Day Out

Once upon a time, I was a stay at home mom with a two year old. Every Tuesday, I would take my two year old to the church for Mother’s Day Out. It was the one opportunity a week that she could play with a large group of other two years olds for a few hours and I could go play too. I loved being a mom to a two year old, but I looked forward to that little break during the week to do whatever it was that I needed to do, or wanted to do. On Wednesday, I wasn’t sure what to expect from my dogs with a house full of painters and plastic and doors swinging opened and closed throughout the day, so I took them to Mother’s Day Out (aka All Things Dogs). I love that place.. It really is a Mother’s Day Out kinda place where the […]

Wow! That was Fast!

Mike and I agreed that it was time to lighten things up around here. A paint crew showed up at the house at around 9:30 am yesterday morning and by 4:00 pm they were done! I expected them to be here two days, maybe even three! It happened so fast! It feels so fresh and clean. The walls had been a dark gold for 12 years or more. We decided to go with a light gray. We love it! I have a tendency to get in a hurry after a fresh coat of paint goes on the walls and put holes in the walls right away to hang things. I don’t like bare walls. Feels empty to me. I tend to hang too much on the walls, or I regret hanging something without really thinking it through, then moving it and leaving visible holes in the wall. I have promised myself […]

It’s Paint Day!!!

You guys…the painters are here and I am so excited. The entry, the upstairs hallway, the downstairs hallway, the powder room, a fresh coat of paint on my water stained ceilings….it is going to feel so fresh and clean!! My mind is not only thinking about new accessories to hang on the hall, but now I’m thinking about new carpet upstairs (it is 17 years old), new chairs for the living room (the dogs have destroyed them), a new wall color in the kitchen (It’s time for a change)…..and on and on and on. Mike is going to love all of these thoughts that I having! Okay, I gotta go get these guys some pizza for lunch! Have a great day! Here are yesterday’s eats… Breakfast – 6 SP Two Scrambled Eggs with lots of zero point veggies, topped with Avocado and an Orange sprinkled with Cinnamon on the side. […]

We Are a Family

The Birthday Girl Yesterday we celebrated this beautiful girls birthday. She’s seven. Is she not the cutest? Who am I kidding? All grand children are the cutest, but yesterday, she was the cutest. Her mommy spoiled her yesterday with Starbucks, a trip to the nail salon (which she loves), and dinner with a bunch of family at Buffalo Wild Wings for dinner. Sidenote: While eating dinner, the almost three year old grand daughter declared. “We are a family.” We just all looked at each other and laughed. She looked puzzled by our laughter. It was like she had just looked around the table, recognized that she was surrounded by family, then said it. Love that kid. Back to the birthday girl. She gets a party this weekend at Bounce City? Never been there before, but I’m guessing there’s a lot of bouncing! Happy Birthday Sweet Girl!   Dates I posted about the […]

Shonda Smolley

I love this little blogging corner of my world for so many different reasons. I’ve formed relationships from this blog and my Instagram account that I never imagined were possible. The relationships are great for support, accountability and even a good a laugh, but I have actually made a few friends too. One blog reader of mine has truly become a friend of mine. Since I didn’t ask her if I could blog about her today and I do respect the privacy of others, I’ll call her Shonda Smolley. She’ll know I’m talking about her and the name will make her giggle. Her comments on my blog really started to connect us. She saw similarities in the two of us, and began to share them with me. Soon, we started exchanging emails that included a little more personal information. Eventually we exchanged phone numbers and now we text each other. The fact that […]

A Full Full Saturday

I didn’t make it to my own Friday WW meeting, so I ventured out and went to a meeting that I have never been to before. I got out of bed at 6:00 am so I could go watch my friend, Antonia, lead a meeting at 7:00 am. She did a great job and I was so glad that I crawled out of bed at the crack of dawn to go. Really, I was. When the meeting was first getting started, Antonia asked a question and I was all happy to put my two cents in. No surprises there, right? After I answered, the very sweet lady beside me looked at me, tapped my shoulder, and said, “I know you! You’re The Weight of my Weight! You’re Julie. I know all about you. You have a daughter named Tess. You’re a new WW Leader. I know you!” Hi Mary Ann!! You […]
