Glad you’ve arrived! Congrats on getting to a WW meeting so quick!
I’m so glad you are walking 50 miles in May! 100 is a bit much, but every once in awhile, I need to push myself to get out the door, and this challenge does it for me. You can do 100 with me on my next challenge! 🙂
The Chicken Salad on the Food Trucks is amazing, but the recipe is a secret! Follow us on Twitter @beautyofthebistro and come have a sandwich. I’ll buy you lunch!
We are at 199th and Metcalf every Wednesday from 11-2. Not sure where in OP you are working, but we do have people from as far North as 119th come see us on Wednesday’s.
Maybe we can have coffee one weekend and meet in person? Good luck with all of the new adventures you have ahead of you, and welcome to Kansas City!
Happy Monday!
Julie
Hey!! I made it to MO! Went to WW on Antioch yesterday and I didn’t gain as much as I thought – the last couple of weeks everyone wanted to go to lunch, dinner, happy hours and I ate and drank it ALL!!! I start a new job on the 16th in Overland Park, so I need to shop this week for business clothes, my old job was relaxed and I got to wear yoga pants and flip flops. I am going to try walking 50 miles in May, I haven’t been exercising like I should so I will work up to 100!!
p.s. That chicken salad looks awesome!!! recipe?
Wow! That all happened quick! Congrats on finding a job! Maybe once you get a little settled here, house hunting will be easier and you can really find what you want. Yes! We were on that flight! Not a fun flight at all!
Would love to meet up for coffee or lunch when you get here!
Crazy time! We put our house up for sale April 1st and accepted an offer April 3rd so the closing is May 5th and we are moving May 6th! I came up to MO the 7th – 11th to try and find a house but we didn’t have any luck, so apartment living it is! I did find a job and will be working on Overland Park which is a 30 minute drive from where we will be living. Oh and while I was watching the morning news on the 11th waiting for my flight to Dallas, I saw the Southwest flight that had to make the landing in KS – they showed a pic with everyone with their masks on – was that the flight you were on? Scary!!
Thanks Wendy. Looking forward to some time with my kiddo!
We have lived in our house for 17 years and I can not imagine moving again. It truly is a chore, but at least you are moving to a lovely city!! We should meet when you get here!
🙂
Have a great weekend!
Julie
Have a great weekend in Dallas – hopefully it will be nice weather all weekend!! We are putting our house in TX up for sale soon and have started looking in KC, MO for houses…. UGHHH I forgot how much I hate this process until now…..at least the weather will be good when I move North! 🙂
Yes, you will love the Plaza. Great place to go all year long. It’s actually been a fairly mild winter here…..so far? lol 🙂
Happy New Year to you too and good luck to you both this year! KC will be happy to have you!
Country Club Plaza looks beautiful with the lights, we will really enjoy that next year! My husband is moving to KS, MO in 2 weeks, still cannot believe we are leaving TX – we have been watching weather.com for your weather and there are times we are wondering how we will make it – LOL!!
Happy New Year to you and your family!!
I’ve never been to Weatherby Lake, but it sounds like a great place to live! I would love to live on a lake. So peaceful!
It looks like the Trader Joe’s is about 25 miles from Weatherby Lake, so maybe you’ll make a list and stock up on the Trader Joe’s shopping days!
Have a great week!
Thanks for the info – I was hoping there would be a Trader Joe’s on the MO side! Husband wants to live by the Weatherby Lake area, we don’t have kids – so Thank God I don’t have to worry about that!! One of my husbands future co-workers said that KS is great, cause anywhere you want to go is 10 minutes, I’m guessing that’s not true in the winter…. 🙂
That’s funny. My daughter moved to Dallas two years ago, and she said the entire city really does freak out about ice and snow and driving. The roads here are prepped in advance (when the meteorologist get the weather right) so driving isn’t so bad. Patience is key, haha.
Kansas City is a huge area with tons of grocery stores and parks. What area will you be living in? I could help you more with “safe” parks if I know what area you will be considering living in, and schools too, if that’s one of the things you need to be considering.
We have a Trader Joe’s on the Missouri side and the Kansas side, and I love both of those. We also have Whole Foods which is great when you are looking for particular items, but can be pricey for everyday shopping. We have Hy-Vee, which can be a bit pricey too, but they have a great “health food” area, and I love to go there for the best produce and meat department. Of course there are lots of Walmart and Targets too that sell groceries, some of those are better than others.
So many great restaurants, I don’t know where to start. The Country Club Plaza is an older part of KC that has always been popular for a night out on the town. Lots of great food and shops. Most of the restaurants there are chains, but not all.
Power and Light is the popular area downtown with lots of bars and they have an outdoor living room where they have a lot of concerts and watch sporting events on the big screen. It’s a party place! 🙂
As far as parks, I don’t know where to start. Lots of walking trails in Johnson County. Lots of parks across the metro, but I can help more with that if I know where.
Have a great weekend!
Julie
Any suggestions, we will be like tourists for a while – like what are the cool restaurants/bars we need to check out, what’s a decent grocery store up there, safe parks to walk at – that type of thing. I am nervous, sad and excited about the move – NOT looking forward to learning how to drive in the snow/ice! 😉 everyone laughs at that part. living in TX most of my life, I never had to learn, we do shut down when it gets a thin sheet of ice!
Congrats on joining WW. I hear ya on the “again” part. I am so excited for my Friday meeting so I can hear all the details on the new plan! I haven’t had my weekly meeting since the new plan came out.
I would be more than happy to give you suggestions. Are you looking for meeting locations, or more like grocery store suggestions, or more like gyms or classes to take?
I just joined WW – Again today….. My husband is changing jobs so I will be moving to KS, MO from TX in a few months, would love suggestions for that area if you have any!!
I’m glad you found the blog!
🙂
I would encourage you to eat some of your 49 weekly points to get through those days you still feel hungry. Hopefully you have a great leader and they should be able to take a look at your food tracker and tell you foods that make you feel more satisfied for longer periods of time. Are you tracking? I think it is super important so on your successful weeks you can look back and see what you ate that week! If you didn’t have a great week, you can look back and see maybe what you ate that you shouldn’t have. You might be eating all of the right things though and just need a little more food to get through the day, and that’s totally what those 49 extra points are there for. Don’t be afraid to use a few of those. Are you drinking lots of water? That helps to feel full too. I try to drink 16 oz of water each time I eat something. It’s become a habit now. I notice that when I eat protein at every meal, I never really feel hungry in between meals.
Sweets are my addiction!!! So I think we have a lot in common! Congrats to you on joining WW! I hope I helped just a little. Thank you for reading.
Have a Happy and Healthy Week!
Julie
Hi Julie,
I love your page, I joined WW 2 weeks ago and my points are 26 . I want to get down to 160 but I now weigh 187, Sometimes I still fell like I am hungry with just 26 points. I am learning how to cook without so many calories. The sweet thing is what gets me. Thanks for such a interesting page…Nola
Great job on going to the gym! You live in India?? That’s awesome!
Do you have an Instagram Account? I highly recommend it for WW support. I follow so many great Instagram accounts for support throughout the week. Great recipe ideas, great inspiration to keep working out, great inspiration for daily quotes and great inspiration for when you’ve had a bad day and you know you need to get back on track!
If you do have an account, you can follow me (theweightofmyweight) and look at the accounts that I follow for that support. If you’d like, send me an email and I can recommend some of my favorites!
You can also search for other WW bloggers. There is a lot of great support out there via social media.
Please let me know if you have any questions. I’d love to know what you are eating in India.
Julie
Love your big and I look forward to e dry posting. I’m a KC girl living in India-yes, India, NOT Indiana. No WW around here, that’s for sure. I’ve just completed my first full month at a gym (major milestone for me) and am really wanting to start WW program. I’ve had zero luck with WW on line! Suggestions?
Dang! I am just reading this after coming home from Trader Joes! I forgot about those Chicken Lime Burgers! I haven’t bought those in forever! I did however buy some kale and broccoli slaw to make a few salads over the next few days. I love the Trader Joe’s Cranberry Walnut Gorgonzola Dressing!! Have you tried that? A little goes a long way. Nom Nom Nom
I cooked up some quinoa as soon as I got home, and made myself a Sweet Potato Quinoa Burger!
🙂
Well, I do take the easy way out….I buy the quinoa in the freezer section of trader joes….also the lentils there too, in the produce section. Saves time and makes putting a salad together so easy. I find a ton of simply filling foods here….chicken lime burgers are really good.
