I love when readers send comments and emails. Those small exchanges over time have allowed me to build relationships here on the blog with people that I otherwise would never have known anything about. Although I may never meet some of you in person, I feel like I know many of you. Occasionally, I have the honor of meeting some of you in person! I recently received an email from a reader that found my blog and discovered that we had a LOT in common. Not only did we have the same breast reconstruction surgery in December, but she lives close to me and is with the same group of doctors! Crazy, right? Yesterday we met for coffee at 10:00 a.m. and chatted into the afternoon. I got home well after 2:00 p.m.! It was so great to talk to someone that is experiencing exactly what I am feeling physically and […]
A Few Simple Things
Simple post for my accountability and maybe you’ll see something you like? Breakfast – 5 SP Eggs are Zero SmartPoints and I love eggs, but every once in a while, I go with just the egg whites. One Egg has 6 grams of protein. One Egg White has 4 grams of protein. If I know I will be going several hours in between meals, then I try to get in extra protein. That’s what I did here. Cook 3 Egg Whites and Wrap in a warm Tortilla, two times. These are really hearty and don’t fall apart. These are 2 SmartPoints each. This also taste great with Cheese or Canadian bacon. I just went with egg whites and a little smashed Avocado (25 g) That’s a Cara Cara Orange. They are SO sweet! Lunch – 3 SP Tuna Salad (the only points are the Mayo) on a bed […]
Happy Friday! I’m Back!
It feels great to sit down and write a simple post about what I ate yesterday. I started tracking two weeks ago today. I’m going to go to my WW meeting next Friday. It has been too long since I have attended a meeting as a member. I’m anxious to work that back into my weekly routine. It was a snow/ice day yesterday, so I pretended like I still had kids in school and spent the entire day in my pj’s. Not really unlike many of my past several days. I’m still working on a Blog Post about 2017. It’s like this really depressing drama that I’m trying to turn into a dark sitcom. Or something like that. I’m trying to focus on all of the great things that happened, but lets be honest, 2017 brought a lot of shit with it and I’m sorting through it all. Let me just say […]
WWFreestyle 2018
I’m happy to be back at Weight Watchering! (it’s a word.) A VERY sweet friend of mine (Thank you Niki!) organized a Meal Train for my surgery in August and for this most recent surgery. I so appreciate my friends singing up and bringing us meals. One less thing to worry about and so very kind! The Meal Train was organized through the month of January, but since I’ve felt pretty good these last two weeks, I decided to cancel the remainder of the Meal Train. I love that friends want to help, but I feel bad having someone bring us a meal when I now feel good enough to throw something simple together. That being said, I got back to tracking and making a few simple things in the kitchen. Basically, soup, tuna salad and any kind of breakfast food that you can think of that is easy. If […]
Post-Op & Commit30
Hi All. It’s Julie. Remember me? Oh my gosh, so much to talk about! Post op updates, 2018 Goals, 2017 in Review, Tracking my food and WW Freestyle I’ll save “2017 in Review” and “Tracking my food and WW Freestyle” for my next post, otherwise I could be here ALL day……..and you would be really bored. Heck, that might happen anyhow! Post Op My daughter Tess came in town December 6th and ended up staying through surgery and didn’t go back to Dallas until December 28th. I loved having her here and so did Mike. Recovery would have been so difficult without her here. She actually came back this past weekend and organized an un decorating afternoon for me with our son and daughter-in-law. Everything is put away and organized just like mom likes it. They all did a great job! I’m now 4 Weeks Post-op! I can not believe […]
Julie’s Steak Soup
This steak soup really isn’t streak soup at all, but while playing in the kitchen one afternoon, I made this soup and it totally reminded me of a Steak Soup that I love at one of our locally owned restaurants. I used ground turkey and vegetable broth the day that I first made it, then I thickened it up a bit with a puree made from potatoes and broth. Mike and I both loved it but of course I was just playing around and I didn’t write anything down. Now I’ve played with this recipe a few times and I finally came up with a recipe that I could write down. Some friends came by for a visit on Saturday, and I had a pot of my soup on the stove. With the fireplace going and the crazy single digit temps we are having here in Kansas City, (and the fact […]
Dr. David Chandler, You are Amazing
I am including before and after pictures of my breast cancer in this post, along with a few recent post op pictures. If you think that this post might bother you, you may want to skip this one. Tomorrow I’ll post about soup. You can come back then! The biggest Thank You ever to Dr. David Chandler with Kansas University Plastic Surgeons. Do you think that he has any idea at all of what he is doing for women with breast cancer? Maybe. I’m gonna tell him at my appointment on Friday. I plan to hug him so tight, he explodes. You know what? I’m still tender. I’ll have Mike hug him. Mike did say that he wants to hug him too. My goal in this post is to be as informative as I can be in a tasteful manner. I want people to know what their options are if diagnosed with breast cancer. […]
Good Morning!
Happy Sunday to You All! I am working on a novel right now (Okay, really just a super long blog post!) about my recent surgery, but I wanted to say good morning and write a quick post! My breast reconstruction surgery has me absolutely fascinated and I want to share all the details. Pictures will be included, so reader beware. I am 16 days post op and I am feeling great! I’ve had two post op appointments that have gone really well. My next appointment is on Friday and I have so many questions for my plastic surgeon about the next steps. Surgery is Phase I. I still have Phase II and III to go. Mike and I went to Walmart yesterday and it was like a date! It felt so good to get dressed, do my hair and get out of the house. It is single digits here, so hat […]
The Jokes on YOU, Cancer!
Happy Friday! I’m excited to share that the last week has gone surprisingly well! I came out of a 10 1/2 hour surgery to the news that the surgery was a success and I now had a tummy tuck and new boobs! Of course I don’t remember that at all, but Tess and Mike tell me that when I woke up, I knew the good news. I spent four adventurous nights in the hospital and came home on Monday. Friends and family came to visit at the hospital, and while I feel like I was completely alert at all times, I vaguely remember those first few days. I’m working on a post for a later date with pictures, but for now I just wanted to let you know that I am home, I am happy. The Jokes on YOU, Cancer! Because of you…. I feel more loved than ever from family […]
Success
I am laying in my bed right now at the hospital. The surgery was a success and I now have a flat tummy and new boobies made out of my own tissue. Yay!!! I’ll go home in 3 to 5 days. Thank you all so much for your prayers, sending me some good vibes and wishing me the best. It worked!!
