While taking my little break from things here recently, I thought a lot about how the simplest things had become so overwhelming for me and how I didn’t like that I had let that happen. What was I doing wrong that was making everything in life feel so BIG?? That phrase…”Stop and smell the roses”, was floating around and around in my head, and I knew I wasn’t doing that, and I knew that I wanted to be. I knew that I needed to be.
Sometimes, I feel like I am hurrying to do everything, even it’s just unloading the dishwasher or letting the dogs out before I leave the house for the day. I hurry them out, then I hurry them back in! Rush, rush, rush. I hurry my shower, I drink my coffee too fast. I’m making a phone call as I’m walking out the door. I’m constantly making a “To Do List”. I feel like some nights I’m even hurrying just to get into bed! When did I stop breathing??
I made an extra effort to approach Friday with a “Stop and Smell the Roses” frame of mind. I didn’t hurry. I didn’t rush. I didn’t over think. I didn’t stress. I just let the day happen, and I enjoyed it. I got up early, without having a bad attitude about it. (I’m not a great early morning person.) I actually took the time to enjoy the taste of my coffee. I worked at The Food Truck and enjoyed chatting with all of the friendly people and I took notice of the gorgeous day outside. When I got home, I walked the dogs (well, it was actually more of a stroll, because I stopped to smell the roses). While on my walk, I introduced myself to some new neighbors up the street. I even took the time to remember their names, (Joe and Laura) which I can be really bad at….because I’m always in a hurry! I enjoyed some good girl time at Happy Hour. Mike and I sat on the deck when he got home from work and we sipped on our first bottle of wine from our trip. We went to dinner at Sunset Grill (our favorite little neighborhood place…and listened to a great band, Three Orange Whips), then we went to a neighbor’s and sat around the fire pit with several other neighbor’s and finished our bottle of wine, while enjoying our friends. It was just an awesome, relaxing, no stress, stop and smell the roses kind of day, and I loved it. I’m gonna do it again today.
If you haven’t stopped and smelled the roses recently, I HIGHLY recommend it!
