Round 2, Whole30, Day 24

Whole30

When Mike and I did our first round of Whole30 back in October, I was all about the challenge of going 30 days without eating a variety of foods, and curious as to how my body would feel at the end of those 30 days. I was also curious to see what old habits would die, and what new habits I would pick up. I was successful in completing the challenge and I learned a lot about my body and my food habits.

This round of Whole30 was planned because I had let some of those old habits slip back into my lifestyle, and I wasn’t feeling so great. I wanted to feel good again, and I knew what I needed to do for that to happen. Now that I know that I can complete the 30 day challenge, and I already know how great it makes me feel, my curiosity has diminished. Feeling the benefits of the last 20+ days, and knowing what changes have made me feel better, it’s been difficult for me to be 100% Whole30 this last week. There have been a few situations where I have allowed myself to make excuses.

  1. I already feel better. What’s the big deal in being 100% Whole30 this time around?
  2. I already know that I can do it, so no need to prove myself again.
  3. I wanna glass of wine!

That being said, these last 7 days, I’ve allowed myself a few Non Whole30 things in social settings.

I’m still going to blog through the whole 30 days, but I’m always honest about my struggles/challenges, and I know that some of you might be having similar struggles or thoughts.

Sometimes it’s hard for me to distinguish between, “Am I making excuses for myself?” or “Am I just being real?”. I still don’t know the answer to that.

My weight is down. I feel good. I am eating healthy foods. I just haven’t followed through with my 30 day plan.

Life

It’s just been one of those weeks that has been difficult to get back into the swing of a routine, then odd things keep coming up that make it more difficult. You know. Life.

Thursday evening, after all of that running around, and an afternoon spent in the kitchen, I sat down in the back yard to play with the dogs. I noticed that Mishka, my 14 year old Maltese/Yorkie was acting strange. Her head was tilted to one direction, she was falling down and she was either walking in circles or walking sideways. Wednesday night, she seemed to be fine, but I had noticed that she was starting to have a hard time with the stairs. Friday morning I took her to the vet. He thinks that she has either had a stroke (or two), or that she may have a brain tumor. If she does not improve over the weekend, we go back on Monday and go from there. Her behavior has really changed this last year, (so a tumor makes sense) and I know that part of her change in behavior is her age, so I’m trying to be realistic about what the next few days will bring, but it may prove to be a difficult few days.

All I wanted to do last night was to sit with my girlfriends and sip on a glass of wine. So I did. It’s good to know that they will sit and listen and always make me feel better, and it seemed as though I wasn’t the only one needing a little girl time.

Dinner – 10 SP

I love every recipe that I have tried from Trina at paleonewbie.com. Yesterday I gave her Paleo Lasagna a try. I had been wanting to make this for a while now, but I was a bit skeptical because the “cheese” is “Cashew Cheese”, made with raw cashews soaked overnight in water, then drained and put in a food processor with a few seasonings. After processing, it looks a bit like Ricotta Cheese. You guys. this was yummy. A little time consuming, so plan for prep time, but I’m glad I finally made it.

I took some to my girlfriends, and they all seemed to enjoy it too! It’s full of Tomatoes, Zucchini, Mushrooms, Spinach, Sausage and Beef!

I cut this into 10 servings. One serving = 10 SmartPoints.

  1. Oh Julie, I’m so sorry to hear your baby is not well. I love my four legged babies like my children and it is heartbreaking when they are facing health issues. Thinking of you – Pam

  2. I haven’t had pets since I was a child and I haven’t had them in my class for many years.
My girlfriend has 5 cats and three dogs.
She lost one of her favorite cats this fall and you could see her pain.
That’s when you need your friends.
I hope your little buddy is doing better by Monday.
