We had a great weekend here, and I hope that you did too!
I made myself a yummy breakfast on Saturday, got a few things done around the house, then walked 5.5 miles.
Breakfast was some Spiralized White Sweet Potatoes (raw, 80 g) cooked in 2 tsp of Bacon fat with a little Red Onion, on top of an Egg White Omelet and topped with Smashed Avocado. 9 SmartPoints for breakfast.
I got my walk in and it was beautiful outside!
Mike and I checked into a hotel Saturday afternoon around 5:00. We’ve stayed at this same hotel several times over the past years to celebrate our anniversary, and now it seems to have become a bit of a tradition. They have rooms with large sliding doors that lead out to a balcony where you can enjoy a great view of the Country Club Plaza. While sitting on the balcony, you can hear people chatting, you can hear the water in the fountains outside of the hotel, you can hear live music playing, and I just love the view. We like to sit out on our balcony, share a bottle of wine, chat about anything other than work, then walk to dinner somewhere on the Plaza.
The next morning, we have coffee on the balcony and chat about where we’ll have brunch, and what we’ll do with the rest of our day. Typically, we do something touristy, and pretend that we are out of town. Guys, it’s a Staycation, and I love it.
We checked in to the hotel, and went to our room. The room had a great view of Kansas City’s County Club Plaza, but no opening window with a balcony. Where will we sit to drink our wine? I’m claustrophobic, how do we get fresh air??? Aaaaaahhhhhh!!!!!!!!!
We went back to the front desk, and they gladly found the last room available with a balcony. When we went to the room , it did have a balcony, but it was overlooking a concrete roof to another part of the hotel, and a parking lot. It was noisey from the motors on the roof that were running, and far as views go, it was awful. Back to the front desk. (We’re not even complainers!)
We decided that we might just go to dinner, then go home. It’s a pricey hotel and we stay here for the balcony and the view. They were being extra friendly and helpful, and I was saying how we were simple people, and not complainers at all, but the balcony with a view is mostly why we like to stay there. As we were pondering to stay or go, a couple checked out of their room with a balcony and a view! For real!!
Yippee! Yay! It’s meant to be!!
They apologized for the inconvenience, gave us two free drinks at the bar while we waited for the room to be cleaned, they gave us VIP access to the 11th floor, where we could have free drinks and appetizers until 10:00 pm, and they gave us a free breakfast in the restaurant for the next morning!
Our evening was perfect and we ended it with coffee on the 11th floor enjoying a view of the Plaza.
Instead of touristy things, we slept in, enjoyed our free breakfast, went to church, then came home.
Becky and I met up to walk and we ended up doing some stairs at the high school as well as walking 6 miles. (I had planned to walk 4 or 5 miles, so I was glad she pushed me a bit.) After walking, I mowed the lawn, which on my app is just over 1 mile, so I included it in my 100 mile challenge. I also edged my lawn and trimmed the bushes in the back yard. I was exhausted. I only need to walk 1 mile today to have 50 miles in and I think that’s exactly what I’ll do!
After a few hours of physical activity, I enjoyed a glass of wine in the driveway and watched Mike detail his 10 year old filthy Jeep. He started this before I started my 6 mile walk and the yard work! He’s a very detail oriented guy and the Jeep now looks brand new, inside and out!
It sounds like more of a chore day, but we really did have a great day and a great weekend. We didn’t get in any touristy stuff, but the whole idea of our weekend was to spend time together, have a few laughs, reconnect and get him away from work. Mission accomplished!
I had no desire to go to the grocery store, and the only thing I could find was a veggie drawer full of Brussels Sprouts and a few Sweet Potatoes. Of course, I’ve had frozen Taco Meat forever, so I pulled that out.
Dinner last night was unexpected and really good!
I roasted Brussels Sprouts, then I put them in a bowl and tossed them with a little cooked bacon and ghee. Oh, I cooked up some bacon for Mike’s breakfast this week. So easy to heat up and add eggs!
I roasted Sweet Potatoes too. Don’t they look yummy together?
I topped my roasted veggies with some Taco Meat and Smashed Avocado. Dinner was pretty darned tasty!
We went to bed early, and now I’m rested and ready for the week!
I did not track my points over the weekend, but I made good choices, enjoyed good food without over indulging, drank plenty of water, and got in plenty of activity!
Happy Monday!
“love the life you live, live the life you love”
Yep. Ya gotta love some free food and drink! Not too shabby.
🙂
Sounds like everything turned out for the best – with All the freebies thrown in! Glad you enjoyed your staycation!! 😍
Sure! It’s the Intercontinental. They have a bar with live music on the weekends, they have an outdoor pool that looks over the Plaza, and you can walk to so many places! Make sure you ask for a view AND a balcony!
🙂
Julie,
Do you mind sharing which hotel you stayed at? The balcony looks awesome!
