Working
I had the opportunity to sub as a Leader for my mentor/trainer over the last few days and I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF EVERY MEETING!
I am a receptionist for her on Thursday mornings at an At Work meeting and last Thursday, I led the meeting. I was nervous because although I have worked this particular meeting as a receptionist and I know these members fairly well, I had some pretty big shoes to fill, so I was a tad nervous. One of the members lightened my nerves and started the meeting by sharing a dream that she had about the meeting. She told everyone that she had a dream that I was funny. That was it. That was the dream. I’m such a weirdo because it made me happy that she had a dream about me leading the meeting. I’m very easily entertained at times.
The meeting went great!
I also got to lead her Saturday morning meetings in one of our stores and they are large meetings. I expected to feel nervous at those, but nope. Just super excited and the members are all so friendly.
I am envious of all leaders that have a regular meeting in a store. One day. One day.
Friends
The sun was out Thursday for the first time in what felt like forever and I wanted to go play! I grabbed a couple of girlfriends for a late lunch and we agreed to try something new, so we headed downtown.
As we browsed the menu, we hesitantly agreed to try Bone Marrow. Why? I have no idea. You are actually eating the middle of a bone!! And they serve it in the bone!! Would you believe that we all actually liked it? You slide a spoon down the middle of the bone and scoop it out and spread it on the bread.
I still can’t believe that we ate it. Once you put it on these little slices of bread, you have no idea you’re eating the middle of a cow femur bone!
NOT for vegetarians!
We also had Steak Taco’s to share. Yummmm.
After snacks at Anton’s, we went across the street to Ruin’s Pub. I had been here before, but I forgot just how cool it really is! You put your card on the screen below the tap, then pour your own beer, as little or as much as you like, and your card is charged according to how many ounces your pour! I love it!
We tried Blueberry Beer. We thought it was gross.
Since we were stepping outside of the box, we ordered Poutine while we tasted the different beers. It’s a Canadian dish. It is Cheese Curds and Fries topped with gravy. I’m not a fan. Not point friendly at all, so I was glad I didn’t like it!
After a fun afternoon with friends, I headed to the airport late to pick up my daughter Tess and her boyfriend Manuel.
Family
Friday morning, Tess and I went here……
I purchased a Groupon a couple of weeks ago for a foot massage for $19 for 45 minutes! Since my feet have been bothering me, I was really looking forward to cashing in my Groupon! Tess thought it sounded like a good way to start the day too, so I bought another Groupon and off we went.
There are several beds in one room. You lie down on the bed and hang your feet off of the end of the bed in a bucket of water to soak. Not super great on the lower back, but after soaking for a few minutes, they put your feet up and the magic happens. Foot and calf massage. Heaven.
When we checked in, they asked us both if we would like a 15 minute neck and back massage too. Um, yes!
I’ve had a fairly good amount of massages in my life, but never fully clothed. Before the foot massage even began, they spent a good amount of time massaging my arms and hands. I loved that.
After the foot massage, they had us roll over and not only was it a neck and back massage, they massaged from neck to legs, fully clothed! I mean, we are in the room with everyone else that came in, so clothing was good.
When we went to pay, I wasn’t sure what to expect since I hadnt asked. It was only $10 extra dollars.
I’m going back soon.
By the time we were finished, the place was packed!
After our massage, Tess and Manuel and I headed downtown for a little First Friday action. The weather was PERFECT!
We were in the Crossroads area where on the first Friday of the month, several art galleries open up for you to browse the art, and many offer snacks and drinks while you browse. I’ve only been one other time and I have no idea why I am not going there every First Friday of the year (well, weather permitting).
We started with lunch at the exact same spot that I ate the bone marrow the day before.
We ordered these tasty little kabobs to share.
Tess and I shared a Burger and Fries.
After lunch, we hopped on the street car. It’s a pretty new thing in Kansas City. Look how nice and clean it is!
We headed to a fun spot for a beer. I am so ready for more days like this. Yes, I do mean cold beer on patios.
After a cold one, back on the street car to go look at art.
Remember where you pour your own beer? Well, we went there and watched this artist paint the wall while sipping a beer.
Then to visit a few galleries.
It was also Food Truck Friday downtown. Downtown is hopping on First Fridays!
We’d had enough to eat, but it was fun to see such a crowd out for the food trucks!
Such a fun day. We headed home to cook up some fish taco’s and chill at home for the rest of the evening.
Saturday morning after working at the WW meetings, we had a big breakfast at home and then filled the day with walks, yard work, chats on the deck and a little grilling.
Tess got creative and ate her burger between two slices of grilled peppers. I took a bite. Yum!
She does NOT know that I took this picture.
Saturday evening we went to visit baby Wrenley! So precious!
Sunday we all went to Mass, then to my in laws to celebrate Palm Sunday. Did I mention yet how happy I was to see the sun?
Big family dinners at Mike’s parents always starts with the little ones all ringing dinner bells, then Grandma leads the family in prayer. She is a rock.
(Some of the pictures below are really good. Jake took those and I stole them.)
Dinner is always delicious.
The annual egg hunt!
Games and chats.
The new little family of three.
These two really are cute together.
These three are getting a new baby brother next month!
These two are getting a new baby brother in August.
Great Grandma and Grandpa and their little ones.
The gang.
Our growing family
“love the life you live, live the life you love”
Thank you Nancy. My mother in law is a wonderful person and I am lucky to have her and our children are lucky to have her and the memories that she makes with them.
I do love to get out and find new things to do. Our street car is a free ride and I think that most of the people on it are doing just what we were doing, trying something new in Kansas City. Such a fun day.
Get out and about this summer. I wanna hear all about it!
Your family is very rich in traditions—-there is no better way to celebrate special days.
I have so many places I could check out in the Cincinnati area and I just don’t maybe that could get me going this summer.
We have a street car but it was so very expensive to start and it doesn’t go very far. (We had a full line of street cars and everything was taken out in the 60’s–go figure!)
Hey you. I’ve been thinking about you. We still have to plan a meet up this year. Before we know it, the year will be half over, or dreadfully hot there anyhow. Lol.
So bone marrow isn’t a new trendy thing?? Huh! Who knew?
Loved your story of you and your dad. Good memories……
yes..there was blood!!
I love that WW offers the coaching for the online members. So many great tools out there.
Ha ha. You are sweet! Wish you could come to a meeting with me!
Awe. Thanks Latiffany. Feeling pretty lucky right now with all of the babies!
I am so glad too! I would hate it if members didn’t share. I remember being a member and having a sub and our group would be so quiet. I would be chatty because I felt so bad for the sub! I so appreciate those that do share but also understand those that are not comfortable speaking up.
Such a fun weekend.
Thanks for reading and commenting Maryfran! Have a great remainder of the week!
Always love your pics! I grew up on a farm and we ate roast beef every.single.sunday.of.my.life. My dad and I would draw toothpicks – a toothpick broken in half – one shorter than the other – to see who got the bone marrow from the roast!!! (And also who had to walk down to the mailbox to get the Sunday paper!). Great memories… I still love it but it grosses everyone else out…. ya’know, blood cells and all…. 😉
Congrats on your successful WW meeting leader experience(s) — your excitement about it really came through in your writing. I bet you’re great! (I’m doing WW online and the 1×1 coaching. But if I wasn’t, I’d attend one of your meetings to see you in action!)
Great post! I love all of the beautiful pics of you and your family.
I’m glad to hear that the meetings that you subbed in went well!!! Keep rocking it and you will have a big store meeting of your own soon!!!
Your weekend of family fun and friends looked fabulous!!!!
Thank you Joan and thank you for reading. I’m hoping for more sunny days to blog about!
Have a wonderful week!
Julie
Reading your sunny days was like being there with you and yours. Beautiful, thank you for sharing.
