July 4th 2020

I decided sometime Wednesday or Thursday to take my girlfriends offer to camp on her family farm over the 4th. Mike is knee deep in cabinet assembly in the garage, our friends that host an annual July 4th get together cancelled due to the rise in coronavirus cases, so I decided this was a perfect weekend to venture out by myself and check out my friends farm. I picked up Effie after work on Thursday and parked her in front of my house so I could pack up and leave after my Friday morning workshops.

I remember as a kid hearing stories of my friends family farm. She is one of eight kids, and most holidays they spent at the farm. A few years ago, she decided to build a barn on the property and turn that barn into living quarters. I’ve seen some great pictures, but I was really looking forward to seeing it in person. During my drive there, I had a vision of what to expect when I got there.

It exceeded my expectations!

The drive there was beautiful. The speed limit most of the way there is 75. I like to set the cruise control at 60 and crank up the tunes and just enjoy the ride. This is the gravel road leading up to the property.

After picking where I’d park for the weekend, I set up with a perfect view of the barn and a convenient electric hook up to the building that houses the equipment they keep. I was able to use my A/C and I had the perfect view of the barn and property that surrounded me.

After setting up, a small storm was rolling in so I took the awning down but was able to put it back up later in the evening. Effie just doesn’t look quite as cozy without it!

These are my high school girls. They decided at the last minute on Friday that they could come down and spend Friday night with us. It was the first time any of us had been to the farm and we we were given a great walking tour of the property.

How peaceful is this view from Effie?

The inside of the barn is adorable. This is an actual barn kit. She made all of the stalls into bedrooms.

Downstairs, one bathroom, four bedrooms, a small TV area, big kitchen and a long dining table.

Upstairs a large area to gather, a small bar, one bathroom and two bedrooms.

Friday night, grilled shrimp tacos. Amazing!

Saturday, grilled chicken sausages with a few yummy sides.

Homemade ice cream on the afternoon of the 4th. It was sooooo good. Worth the work of cranking!

Other farm activities?

Target practice.

If you catch a fish, you gotta clean it!

Chillin’ in the shade. This was the first time I’ve used my hammock!

Perfect place for hanging with friends.

Betsy, pictured above, found an awesome App called Waterlogue that turns your pictures into watercolors!

How cute are these??

The sky Friday night was gorgeous and seemed to change every few minutes.

It was nice to have my AC and literally chill in Effie for morning coffee.

Lunch Saturday afternoon just before a nap.

Maybe a snack, then a nap.

There was napping, and then there was walking!!

It was a great 4th!

I hope you all were able to do something you enjoy!

I’ll be heading out again Friday in Effie. This spot is right on the lake and I’m looking forward to the view.

Have a great week!

My Effie key. Whenever I spend time with Effie, I know I’ll Be Happy.
