Self Care. It’s Not Selfish.

I’ve been getting a monthly massage for several months now. At first I felt a little guilty about it. Why? Why do we often refer to things we enjoy as a “guilty pleasure”? Why do we feel guilty about doing something good for our bodies? A massage, a pedicure, a facial or maybe a long bath with the door locked (stay out family!) is a great way to take some time for yourself. Often I’ve found myself feeling guilty or selfish about doing some of those things. I’m working on letting go of unnecessary guilt.

My gift to myself yesterday? A nice long massage.

Saw this beauty on my drive home.

Activity

Day 2 with the trainer was a 3 mile walk with a series of stretches for warm up and a cool down. The 4 mile walk the previous day had my knees aching so I only did a 1.5 mile walk. She had me scheduled with today as a rest day, so I will get in that other 1.5 mile walk along with the recommended stretches for warm up and cool down.

While my speed and distance here are nothing to boast about, I’m already happy to have a plan, a goal and some sort of a schedule.

Tuna Salad on Spinach with Roasted Plantains

Snack

I promise this is much more appetizing in person. Really!

Fresh blueberries with 2 T Granola microwaved for 1-2 minutes, topped with 1 T almond butter. It’s like a PB&J Crisp, but not really, but kinda.

Dinner

A Bag of salad with a protein is always an easy dinner when the day gets away from me. I diced up some chicken breast and cooked it in the skillet with a little olive oil and s&p. Easy peasy.

Read the front of this salad bag. Spring Mix, Unexpected Cheddar Cheese. I guess the cheese is a surprise!!

I love everything about this!

  2. Isn’t it so insane that we so often believe those myths deep within our souls? Why is that? Regardless, my #1 self-care is long soaks in my tub with loads of lavender bubbles, lighted candles, and either a good book to read on my Kindle Fire, or watching an episode of a favorite series like The Crown or a favorite movie! (Watched in segments, that is … so no, I do not sit in the tub for 2 hours!) Thanks for the reminder to be good to ourselves!
