That’s my word for 2021. Fearless. For many reasons, I’m approaching several things, small or large, with a fearless attitude. The thumb splint came off Tuesday this week. Yay! I only had to wear it for 6 weeks and I thought it was going to be longer. I mean, the tip of my thumb only bends at a 5° angle but I am told with continued weeks of PT, that will improve. I only have to wear the splint for protection if i’m doing something active, but I can now sleep and shower as a free woman!! As my doctor gave me the okay to remove my splint, he followed that with, “You might wanna wear it if you’re doing something really active like if your grandkids come over.” Three of them were at my house waiting for me to get back from the doctor so I promptly put it […]
Happy New Year 2021!
I couldn’t think of a better way to spend the first day of the new year than outside with fresh air walking in a beautiful snowfall. I’ve spent this week reflecting on the year, like I’ve done each year for sometime. Thinking about the things that I accomplished. Thinking about the things that I want to accomplish as life moves forward. For the last few years I have started each year with a word for the year. My word for 2020 was “Create”. Who knew that word would became so relevant as most of us spent much of 2020 “Creating”. Creating new ways we would do our jobs, creating new ways of learning, creating new ways we would attend an exercise class, creating new ways to visit family and friends and celebrate special occasions or holidays, even creating new ways to grocery shop! Although 2020 was a challenging year and […]
Santa Delivered!
Hi friends! Happy New Year’s eve! So Santa for real delivered this year and it was so much fun! I felt like a little kid! Before I share Santa though….. I completely forgot to share our Christmas photos with Effie in my last post! This was such a fun photo shoot in October. I mailed out a few Christmas cards this year for the first time in a long time. I hope y’all had a great Christmas! Santa delivered! I’m going to share just a few pics here as Mike and I went out in our red sleigh to deliver our gifts to the grandkids! It was 28° outside so it was a little chilly in the sled but as Mr. and Mrs. Claus, we had a duty to fulfill, bring the spirit of Christmas to the grandkids! Santa kinda looks like a bad ass! Ya think? He’s all mine […]
Merry Christmas!
Hi Friends! Come on in. Were any of you able to see Jupiter and Saturn align Tuesday night? Mike and I headed out shortly after sunset in hopes of seeing the “Star of Bethlehem”. Now if we only would have had more than a cell phone. Still, a nice memory for our unusual year. It looks like it’s just the two of us for Christmas this year and we are slowly and gradually coming to terms with that as I’m sure many of you are celebrating Christmas and the holidays differently this year as well. I’ve spent several days over in Effie enjoying the little holiday cheer that she gives me. So fortunate for the sunny warm December we’ve had here. Even though I suspected we would have no one over, I decided to decorate the house as I usually do. As much as I enjoy sharing our home decorated […]
Five Days Wasted
Hi friends! How is your December going so far? Are you taking care of yourselves? I know the holiday time can be an exciting time and it can also be a rough time for many as there are a lot of emotions around this time of year. This year more than ever it’s important to take care of your mental health. Take time out for yourself. Recognize when you’re not feeling so great and when you need to reach out to a friend or loved one for support. Don’t forget to reach out to those that may live alone and might be feeling a little extra down this year as we all maneuver through December 2020. I’m always here for you and welcome you to email me. Please remember to do your monthly self breast exam! That will always be something I will make a priority to mention here monthly […]
Chillaxing
Chill. Relaxing. Chillaxing. You’ve been here for a while so you get me, right? Happy FriYaY friends! I’ve been enjoying the deck, a fire and last night, wine in a glass that used to belong to my grandma. I miss her, her sassy little self, her cute jokes, her big earrings, her bright lip stick, her cocktail hours and her cooking. I know me sipping out of her wine glass would make her smile. Covid’s got me treating everyday like a holiday in need of a cocktail hour!! I kid. I kid. But I have been enjoying the deck and going through the firewood like it’s my full-time job. I hope you all had a tasty Thanksgiving. Mike was pleasantly surprised with my 100% Paleo Thanksgiving meal and so was I! Our main dish was this yummy little stuffed turkey tenderloin from Skinnytaste. While my mom was over for coffee […]
Thanksgiving 2020
Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I hope no matter where you may be spending the day or however different the day may look for you this year, that you are planning to have some yummy food with people that you love. Mike and I may be starting off the day with a beautiful plate of pancakes topped with Warm Cinnamon Apples and a few added chopped pecans. What a great fall breakfast to start off our day! Today’s Thanksgiving Day menu is simple and I shared it in my last post but I’ve decided to skip the green beans and go with roasted Brussels Sprouts. Skinnytaste Stuffed Turkey Tenderloins Trader Joe’s Mashed Sweet Potatoes Roasted Brussels Sprouts with Bacon and Apples Pumpkin Pie (I’m skipping the crust) Coconut Whipped Cream We typically spend the day with 30 or so family members and officially took over hosting last year. This year […]
Fall Favorites & More
Happy Thursday! This post is filled with food, so I hope you’ve got a healthy snack or meal ready to go, because if you make it through this, you just might be hungry when your’e done. I began eating a cleaner diet just over five years ago. Less processed foods, more whole foods. I have been very focused on eating Paleo (avoiding sugar, dairy, grains, soy, legumes and highly processed foods) since September 1st, 2020 due to some health issues. By focusing on the large variety of foods that I can have instead of giving just a little bit of thought to the foods that I can’t have (or choose not to have), I’m realizing how much I love the foods that I’m eating because not only do they make my body feel good, they taste amazing! So, this post is filled with foods that follow the Paleo lifestyle, but […]
Sunrise Cabin
Last week I spent three full days with my daughter in a cabin on a mountain in Oklahoma and it was unbelievably perfect! Because of this unusual time we find ourselves in, I’m putting forth effort to be mindful and present. Tess and I spent three days being “in the moment” as much as possible. We agreed to just a few brief minutes of 2020 talk, then only focusing on the present. The moment. The sights, sounds and smells of where we were. It was exactly what we needed together. I’ll keep this post that way as well. All about our time at the cabin. Now let me flood you with pics. We hadn’t seen each other since Mike and I went to visit her and Manuel in Texas the first weekend in March. I needed to see my girl. My drive down from Kansas was about 5 1/2 hours […]
Hi Friends. Happy November!
I’ve never voted in this manner before, but I dropped my ballot off last week! Have you voted? I am SO loving the fall colors. Here is a little view of my recent walks in the neighborhood. Last Monday we had just a little bit of snow to add to the beauty of the season. I never took my pj’s off that day. I spent the day sipping coffee and lounging while watching The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix.! It’s one season and I thought it was great! It the story of a young girl sent to an orphanage after losing her mother and how she discovers the game of Chess while at the orphanage. I know nothing at all about the game of Chess, but I loved this series. Our next project? Old Man is going to give me Chess lessons. Mike turned 60 on Halloween. That’s right. I now […]
