Thanksgiving 2020

Happy Thanksgiving to you all! I hope no matter where you may be spending the day or however different the day may look for you this year, that you are planning to have some yummy food with people that you love.

Mike and I may be starting off the day with a beautiful plate of pancakes topped with Warm Cinnamon Apples and a few added chopped pecans. What a great fall breakfast to start off our day!

Today’s Thanksgiving Day menu is simple and I shared it in my last post but I’ve decided to skip the green beans and go with roasted Brussels Sprouts.

We typically spend the day with 30 or so family members and officially took over hosting last year. This year it will be the two of us and I’ve promised myself that I won’t cry.

My mom is coming over for coffee late this morning and possibly a piece of my crustless pumpkin pie. Mike and I will enjoy our intimate Thanksgiving Dinner later this afternoon followed by a family zoom. Nothings says the holidays like a cozy warm zoom with your loved ones curled up with your computer. It’s looking different this year for sure, but I know at the end of the day we will have had a yummy meal and the opportunity to connect with parents, kids and grandkids in one way or the other and for that I am thankful.

Last Sunday was my 54th birthday. How did I get to be 50 something?? Mike asked me on Friday what I wanted to do for my birthday. I reminded him that my options were limited this year and said I honestly couldn’t think of anything. Two hours later I went into his office and told him I had a great plan and I knew exactly what I wanted to do!

I’ve been craving pizza. Like the real deal. All the cheese and crust and meat and a nice big glass of cab to go with it. I decided it would be fun to have a date over at Effie the night before my birthday then wake up in her on my birthday. I went over a few hours earlier and decorated Effie just a little for Christmas. I asked Mike to come over later and bring a pizza and the chess board since I now am determined to become a good chess player. Did you watch the Netflix series The Queens Gambit yet? I promise even if you know nothing at all about chess, you will enjoy this mini series.

We had the best evening! I spent the night and Mike came home, which was fine with me because waking up in Effie by myself and having coffee on my birthday sounded absolutely perfect! My mom ended up coming over for my birthday morning and we had a FaceTime call with Tess, which was a nice addition to my morning.

I ended up hanging out in Effie until after noon sometime, then came home and just enjoyed lounging for the day. Mike and I watched the Chiefs that evening (what a game!!) out on our deck with a fire going and even though 2020 is dumb, I had an awesome birthday!

Look how cute Effie is!

Mike made this chess board over 40 years ago! Isn’t it pretty?

Incredibly Thankful for every one of you! Enjoy your day!

Until next time…..

  7. Julie,
I haven’t commented like forever but today is a day to let someone like you know how special you are…..you share so much love in your posts and it is contagious. You are so blessed as you share your given gifts.

Happy birthday…54 what a great age. I will be 78 on the 30th and I also have been blessed.

Two years ago I tried to catch up with you when I visited Kansas (if that jars your memory).

    Blessings to you and yours.

  8. Sounds like a perfect birthday celebration. Effie looks adorable. Wishing you a happy Thanksgiving. I agree, that game was really something. My husband is an Oakland native so things didn’t go quite the way we wanted. But, what a game!!!

  9. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! As with you our table is usually filled, but this year it’s just Brian and I, and like you I promised myself I wouldn’t cry. Broke that promise twice already today but I’m glad it’s because of tears of gratefulness and thankfulness While being Uber/emotional. 😩
We too are having crustless pumpkin pie! I watched the Queens gambit, per your recommendation, and loved it! However I am not even going to pretend I can learn how to play! I am thankful for you as a friend, have a beautiful day, Ronda

  10. Happy Birthday and Happy Thanksgiving!
Effie is looking all decked out for the season.
You now have your unofficial She Shed.
I would really enjoy a deck like yours with the fire place.
