I live one mile from my Walmart. I almost despise going in there. I’m the person that always picks the super slow line when checking out, when I’m looking to buy something that I don’t typically buy, I can never find it there, and I always seem to get the grumpy cashier.
Friday, I went to a Walmart that is down the street from my WW meeting, about 20 minutes from my house. I did not find what I was looking for, but I did find this super cute coffee mug, and I had to have it.
While I was waiting in line to check out, the elderly gentleman that was working the check out, shook the hand of the customer (an elderly woman) in front of me as he handed her change back to her. Then he reached out with his other hand and held her hand with both of his hands and smiled so sweetly and told her to have a wonderful day. I thought, well that was cute, they must know one another.
He greeted me with a kind and warm smile and said, “How are you today?”. I’m thinking to myself….Um, is this really Walmart? Very rarely, have any of the employees’s at my Walmart ever greeted me like that. I feel lucky when they even look up to make eye contact, let alone speak any words. I said “I’m great, and how are you?”
We had a nice little chat, and he told me that he would wrap my mug with extra bags so that it wouldn’t break. I paid, and as he handed my change back to me, he took my hand, with both of his hands, and told me also to have a wonderful day. He Hand Hugged me! I told him that I would come back to his check out lane any day just to see his smiling face. I left Walmart feeling all warm and fuzzy.
Our recent WW meetings have been about “Happiness”. Last week, I wasn’t there, but they discussed things that they were grateful for. This week we discussed being able to do things without guilt. Taking time for yourself and actually enjoying the moment, instead of thinking about your “to do list”. Enjoying the pleasurable things in life, without any guilt. Through a show of hands, about half of the room said that they were able to enjoy pleasurable things without any guilt, and the other half of the room said that they struggle with feelings of guilt when doing things they enjoy….massage, vacation, reading a book, playing golf, etc. Maybe I’m somewhere in the middle. Sometimes I feel guilty spending money on some of those things, but once I make the decision, I’m all about enjoying the experience.
I really like this series of meetings, and I think it’s a great way to send you out the door for a week full of positive thoughts. I went to Walmart right after my WW meeting, and after I left Walmart, I was thinking about what a sweet man that was and that he is likely one of those people that is happy most of the time and lives life in the moment. He’s the kind of guy that you know immediately, his happiness is contagious.
He made me want to Hand Hug everyone!
Here are Friday’s eats……
Breakfast – 3 PPV
Grande Nonfat Latte with 1 pump of Sugar Free Vanilla while at my WW meeting……
Lunch – 10 PPV
I ran errands after my WW meeting, and at 11:30, I was starving. It was rainy and blah out, and I knew I wanted breakfast food. We have First Watch here and they serve Breakfast and Lunch, and it’s one of my favorite spots to go.
I ordered the Breakfast Taco’s, the Special of the Day. I ordered them with Egg Whites, Cheese on the side, and please leave out the chorizo, but keep the chicken. These were really good. I put a bite of beans on each taco, and I skipped the cheese all together. Perfect meal and just what I was craving.
Snack – 0 PPV
Grapes…lots of grapes.
Dinner – 10 PPV
I had 2 Bowls of Mexican Turkey Black Bean Veggie Skillet. I love this meal. It is versatile and easy. It always satisfies my comfort food cravings. My original recipe has shredded carrots and zucchini in it, and no corn, but you can add whatever veggies you happen to have on hand.
I topped this with 1 Corn Tortilla cut into strips.
Then I added 1 T. of Plain Nonfat Greek Yogurt.

Happy Sunday!
I bet everyone that saw you for the rest of the day was wondering why you had that great big smile on your face.
I love acts of kindness and I’m so glad I’m hearing more stories of them.
We had great weather here yesterday and people seemed so happy–no rain.
Hope your Sunday is a good one.
