Hola Amigo!

With so many cancelations over the last 12+ months (like everyone else in the world), Mike and I finally got to follow through with a planned trip! We joined some friends in Mexico last week and I’d like to go back, today!

A friend of ours recently celebrated her 50th birthday, and after we all began getting vaccinated she started talking about taking a trip to Mexico to celebrate and inviting all of her friends to join her. Mike and I decided to join everyone for three days of the trip then stay an additional three days just the two of us. It was the perfect mix of celebrating with friends then reconnecting with the hubs.

We had a great time enjoying friends, the beach, the pools, the food, the drinks, the entertainment, the staff at the resort, the guest we met, the sunshine, the views and time away from home together. We met some of the nicest people, guest and staff! Wearing your Chiefs/Royals shirts always makes for great conversation when on vacation!

We stayed at Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf and Spa Resort. The resort was beautiful and while on past vacations we have left the resort for excursions, we stayed put and enjoyed all the resort had to offer.

This was our first all-inclusive trip where we skipped the daily buffets and passed on room service all together, except for ordering coffee one morning. While I’m 100% certain we still ate and drank more than either of us needed to, ordering off the menu and savoring the small servings saved us from picking up one of the everything from the buffet. This resort was right up there at the top of our list of favorites that we have stayed at.

Now I’m just going to flood you with vacation photos.

Everything is nice and quiet during the morning hours.

I love a morning on the beach.

Our breakfast view each morning.

Green juice. Every morning.

Morning coffee from our room balcony.

We took advantage of the few extra perks offered. Such a nice welcome! I didn’t think to take any pics of our room!

For our first full day, Ashli reserved four of these Bali beds. These were fun as they were right on the beach and the staff was awesome checking on us regularly filling food and drink orders. I can’t say enough about the staff and the service at this resort.

Our first night there the resort had planned a Mexican Fiesta around the pool area and it was perfect for us to all be able to sit together for dinner. A few friends were going home the next day and I know my friend Ashli, the birthday girl, loved having us all together. It’s hard to get 16 people to smile at the same time with eyes opened and all faces included in the pic!

One of the guys from our group participated in the Secrets version of American Idol. I laughed so hard my abs got a great workout and I almost pee’d my pants. And it wasn’t because he was bad, but because he was SO entertaining and it was so unexpected! All we really knew about Jasen (I’d met his wife several times and she’s adorable) was that he was a business owner, an engineer and he was a non-drinker. He performed Kiss from Prince and he was AWESOME! He was all over the stage and it was the most fun we’d all had in a long time. Thank you Jasen!

We danced in the nightclub (burned off the days calories) and played on the swings just outside of the dance club. It was a late late night but so much fun!

We spent one full day playing in the pools and hot tubs chatting, laughing and enjoying our friends.

Watching our boys participate in the afternoon volleyball game.

After three nights of fun, we said good bye to our friends as they headed back home and we settled in for three days alone. We enjoyed the beach beds so much we decided to spend an entire day right here relaxing.

Grilled Chicken, Shrimp Nachos and Fish Tacos from the beach menu. All tasty!

Mike and I ate at the Italian restaurant one evening and after our meal the wait staff brought out this beautiful dessert tray and two of the waiters sang Happy Anniversary to you! Then one waiter visited with us for a while then started singing, It’s a Beautiful Moment in Spanish, which is a love song he told us he sang to his parents every year on their anniversary. It was sooo sweet and very romantic. He chatted with us for quite a while before singing, so we knew it came from the heart and yep, I cried.

Mike scheduled a spa day for us one day. They had a hydrotherapy area where you do a circuit of dry sauna, wet sauna, cold pool, warm pool, and one large pool with individual areas with jets for different parts of your body, some for your legs, some for your shoulders. Hard to describe the large pool area, but it was so relaxing. After about an hour there, it was time for our massage. I had zero expectations but this was maybe the best massage I’ve ever had. We’re moving to Mexico and will be living at the spa.

This is the face of a post spa happy relaxed vacationer.

Right before I took this fully refreshed feeling photo, and before we’d had anything to eat at all on this particular day, I said to Mike…”I’m craving a salad. Lets sit down outside, enjoy the view here (we were at the sister resort next door – Dreams) and order something light and refreshing”. He agreed. One look at the menu and we ordered this!

Coconut Shrimp, Calamari and some Veggie Tacos. So much for light and refreshing but thankful for the small servings and ridiculously delicious food! And the presentation!

For our last full day Mike rented one of the pool beds. These were really nice because the view of the beach was spectacular and if we got too hot, the pool was right behind us. With the bed rental came an afternoon bottle of champagne and charcuterie tray and again, the staff was amazing.

We really enjoyed these three days alone and realized how we need to plan more time away from home just the two of us.

A few random food pictures from the week cuz that’s how I roll!

These pics below are from the Asian restaurant. It was all so good we ate there twice and skipped some of the other choices.

Growing up in KC, known for our BBQ, I was hesitant to order the BBQ Pork Ribs but our waiter almost insisted. These were maybe the best thing I ate all week long, and we ate some really good food! Who knew? BBQ at an Asian restaurant in Mexico.

I really can’t compliment the staff enough. I guess they keep notes on file and when you give them your room number they check their notes or something. I don’t know, but our waiter, Edher, brought this to our table with our last cup of coffee on our last morning. Inside this beautiful yellow ball was a lemon mousse that was oh so light and creamy.

It feels so good to be doing things we’ve missed. I knew we’d eventually get back to a somewhat normal life, but at times it was hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I hope you’re able to do more now as well.

We came home on Saturday and it took me a until Wednesday to get mentally back to tracking. I stepped on the scale this morning and I’m the same weight I was the day we left.

Ashli invited me to join her in her new workout routine HotWorx for the last two days. I’ll share more on that later this week as I decided to try a week for free!

Your monthly reminder to feel those boobs!!!

Until next time!
