A Visit from my Daughter, Tess!
I had NO intentions of not blogging all weekend long!
It was a great weekend though, and if you’re interested, here’s a recap.
Friday night, I picked up Tess from the airport and we went to one of my favorite little neighborhood spots, The Sunset Grill. There was some great live music, a chatty and somewhat entertaining girl sitting at the bar beside us, and some yummy food!
Saturday morning was coffee, catching up, and snuggling on the couch with one of my favorite movies, Working Girl! This is a Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford movie from the late 80’s. Melanie Griffith’s character’s name, in the movie, is Tess. She plays a smart, strong willed young woman, fighting her way to the top! I loved her character in this movie! It is this movie that the name Tess first stuck with me, and where I knew I wanted to name my daughter Tess. I wasn’t even pregnant, or planning a pregnancy! Tess, my daughter, watched the movie for the first time and LOVED IT!!
After movie watching, we took an awesome Three Mile walk, then we got ready for our day of beer and food sampling at Boulevardia!
Look at our cute little sampling glasses!
The weather was perfect, we talked to all sorts of interesting people, and we had a blast!
We ended our night in Brookside, a little part of Kansas City, at Louie’s Wine Dive, where we had an awesome dinner, a glass of wine, and waited for Mike to come pick us up! We had racked up quite a cab bill by the end of the night!!
I had a Veggie, Quinoa, Pesto dish! I can’t decide if I think it looks good or not in this picture, but it was and I ate every bite!
Sunday was breakfast out with my dad for Father’s Day! I’ve never seen a Veggie Omelet with zucchini and carrots in it, but it wasn’t bad. I ate a few potatoes, and half of the english muffin.
Dinner was at our house with Mike’s dad and all of our kids and grandkids for Father’s Day Evening. This was really the only meal over the weekend that I OVER ATE! I don’t know the last time I had lasagna, and it just tasted SO darned good!
Right before eating dinner, we realized the grandkids were all in the backyard, fully dressed, and completely drenched while playing in the sprinkler!! They ended up eating dinner in Grandpa’s t-shirts!! I think none of us could believe that they had actually done this. They had to hook up the sprinkler and connect the hose. We decided they were so clever, they didn’t even get into trouble! It just seemed like a really smart kid thing to do on a hot summer day! I think we actually congratulated them??
It was a great family evening with everyone staying late and listening to Mike’s dad share some stories from his childhood that most of us had never heard. Lots of great cuddling with the grandkids too!
Monday morning was a little more couch and coffee chat with Tess, and watching The Blind Side. It’s just one of those movies that you could watch over and over and over! While Tess watched, I made Sweet Potato Quinoa Cakes with Blackberry Salsa! I had been trying to make these for four days!! It was worth the wait! They were SO yummy! Click HERE for the recipe!
I said that during the month of June, I would buy two new produce items each week that I’ve never bought before. This week I bought a jalapeño and cilantro. Two really simple things that I’ve never bought! I’m always afraid of jalapeño pepper’s and I’m not a big cilantro fan, but this Sweet Potato Quinoa Cake included both of these items, and I had to try it!
We spent the afternoon poolside in the neighborhood, then cooked dinner together. Marinated Flank Steak, Tomato Basil and Mozzarella Salad, Asparagus and Whipped Cauliflower!
Tuesday morning we recapped what a great weekend we had, and made plans for me to go to Dallas in July and see Tess’ new apartment. I had her at the airport just after lunch.
Weight Watcher’s
I had a great meeting on Friday and the scale is cooperating with my behavior. I tried to make the best food choices over the long weekend, but I did NOT count points or track my food. I know I had too many beers and too many glasses of wine, and I did NOT drink enough water.
We took an awesome walk on Saturday morning, then on Sunday morning, I tweaked my back unloading the dishwasher!! It hurts to sit, stand up, and lay down. I’m fine standing up straight. We’ll see how things progress over the next few days, but I have not walked, ran or done any Yoga for the last THREE days!!!
I hope you all had a great weekend!
