January Challenge, Day 9

I started off my Friday with my Weight Watcher Meeting. That place is really packed in January! It was a really good meeting for me and here’s why. This week we talked about Serving size and Portion size. As a long time WW member, it’s easy to get confident in your knowledge of a serving size, so you stop measuring and weighing, and you do a lot of estimating. After a period of time, it’s easy to allow those serving sizes to grow without realizing it, or maybe realizing it, but thinking it won’t matter much. In reality, eating larger portions over and over throughout the week means eating more points, and those extra, un accounted for points, can really add up!

All of that being said, after a week of eating really healthy and cutting out all of the crap, I didn’t lose one pound. Do I feel better? Yes. Feeling better is my ultimate goal, but I want to get these extra pounds off as well, and I know that no matter what kind of food that I have been eating, I am still eating TOO MUCH food. I feel like my menu this week consisted mostly of Eggs, Turkey, Quinoa, fruit and Avocado’s, which are all great foods, but this week I am going to make sure I measure and weigh my foods so that my points are accurate, and I see a loss at the scale next Friday!

I got together with a couple of girlfriends last night for a short Happy Hour, and I enjoyed my hot tea with ease. 🙂

For the month of January, I am not eating the following items.
Gluten
Dairy
Red Meat
Soy
Corn
Sugar
Artificial Sweetness
Alcohol

Here are yesterday’s eats…..

Dinner

6 oz of Sweet Potato, Smashed

Topped with 1 Cup of Turkey Taco Meat

Turkey Meat….I cooked the turkey with red onions. After the meat browned, I added homemade taco seasoning, one whole zucchini, in Zoodles form, then I added 1/2 Cup of cooked quinoa and 1 can of drained and rinsed black beans. This turkey taco meat was packed full of protein!

1/4 Avocado and Salsa

12 PPV

I could eat this everyday. Mike even likes it. He ate his over tortilla chips instead of a sweet potato, and topped it with Catalina dressing and cheese.

  1. Thanks Lisa!! I’m glad you like the blog post.

I go back and forth on if I want the fitbit or not. I can’t decide if I would be excited to see where I’m at for the day and all energized to keep up with it, or if it would just make me feel bad about myself if I took the day off. I’m just learning to like myself and all of my imperfections as it is. 🙂

My scale does all sorts of weird things when I am least expecting it, so keep drinking that water!

WHO DRINKS ONE GLASS OF WINE????? Right?

  2. Hey Julie-

I love your posts! It makes me feel much better about trying to lose that holiday weight! I got a fitbit for Christmas and started tracking food and exercise (calories in/calories out) last week. I did drop 2 lbs as of Friday but was back up today. Not quite sure why? Hoping it is all the water I am drinking to stay hydrated in this dry weather! I agree with you, it is amazing how much better you feel when you cut out the crap. It is a bit scary when you start looking at how many calories are in one glass of wine and what you have to do to exercise that off!

  3. Hi Lynn,

Congrats on the one pound loss! Jealous! 🙂

I must say I was a bit discouraged to be eating so drastically different than I did in December, and then see no loss, but I knew I was probably eating too many calories, so the meeting was a good eye opener for me to start measuring and weighing again.

Glad you like the food ideas! I’ll try to add a little more variety this week!

    Have an awesome week!

    Julie

  4. Thanks for keeping it real for me and you are just what I needed. I only lost one pound and was feeling bad but do I feel better…YES! Love your food ideas!
