The Number 21 “Through this number your angels will motivate you to have faith and to believe in the positive outcome that is in front of you.” I was trying to find some significant meaning in the number 21 as I was putting together an evening for Mike and I to celebrate our 21st Anniversary at home. I wanted it to be a special night. I wanted it to be an anniversary to remember, not because of the coronavirus and all that we couldn’t do, but an anniversary to remember because it was special. I wanted to look back and remember how we have learned to work together as a team when shit just gets hard. Google brought me to the statement above and it seemed absolutely perfect for where we find ourselves right now in life. I find it worth a second read. “Through this number your angels will […]

WW Virtual Workshops
Obviously I would love nothing more than to be doing my job in person, hugging members, making eye contact, having one on one conversations about how the week went, asking how life is going outside of WW, but it’s just not happening right now, so I’m seeking out all of the positive experiences about this whole Virtual Workshop thing. Maybe you’re not a WW member and you’ve got your own Virtual life happening right now? Family time? Teaching? Meetings? Classes? It’s weird, but I do find the whole experience much more personal than I ever thought that I would. Also, I have learned so much. I’m having fun trying to stay creative with the Zoom experience and make the Virtual Workshop feel like a Studio Workshop as much as possible. Knowing we will be virtual through May 30th, I am thinking about how many different locations I could set up […]
Camping….kinda
So I went camping last night with friends…..kinda. I pulled out all the fun stuff. I set up camp just like I would at the campground. Awning, rug, chairs, lanterns…..even the Potty Tent. My high school friends came over for a safe social distancing Happy Hour at Effie. They came inside one at a time to see her for their first time, then we enjoyed the outdoors. I really wanted to sit around the table with them, but that day will come. We’ve been Zooming and texting regularly now for the last several weeks, but it was sure good to see them in person and catch up! I told them all they had to brink their own drinks, food, chairs and blankets then ended up making something I thought we could share. It’s a weird time to be a hostess! They stayed until after 9:00 and it was the best […]
Cinco de Mayo 2020
Let’s just say it wasn’t your typical Cinco de Mayo. It was a quiet day and a quiet evening. I enjoy spending time alone and I can find several things to do to entertain myself, but I’m starting to miss my social gatherings, especially so when there is something to celebrate. We have some friends that often host Cinco de Mayo and I would have loved nothing more than to spend the evening on their patio last night with friends enjoying some authentic mexican food and a Margarita. Instead, Mike and I enjoyed a our own little Fiesta on the deck and fantasized about going to a party. Earlier in the day, my niece met me over at Effie and we had coffee together while practicing social distancing. She has a cute little truck with a camper shell on the back and she may love Effie almost as much as […]
Rain, Yoga and a Face Mask
I’ve gone through most of my projects so these rainy days at home leave me looking for things to occupy my time. Yesterday along with planning for my week and coaching a workshop, I cooked, sat through a storm on the deck, tried the air fryer once again and I officially give up, gave myself a pedicure, did Yoga, walked on the treadmill, cooked some more and ended the night with a face mask, then a bath. What are you spending your time doing? I love Yoga with Adrienne on Youtube. Have you met Adrienne? She has such a variety. Yesterday I did a 20 minute Yoga Flow. then hopped on the treadmill for 30 minutes. If you’re a Yoga fan, check her out. If you’re a Yoga virgin, check her out. She has beginner classes too! Did I mention I’ve gone through most of my projects and I’m looking […]
What Does Your May Look Like?
I spent most of Sunday sitting here, sipping coffee and thinking about what May might look like. It looks like several states will be lifting the “Stay at Home” order over the next few days, many in phases. Here in Kansas, we have state, county and city dates that all differ. It’s a little hard to really know what to do. So many strong opinions out there. Many wanting to open and get the economy back up and running with many willing to support businesses while others still wanting to stay home in hopes of preventing spreading the coronavirus. I truly believe that we are all trying to do what we think is best. I’m trying to do the right thing, but I realize the “right thing” looks different to many of us. I’m doing my best to stay positive and respect all of the different points of view out […]
Mulch. Mow. Trim.
Yesterday all fitpoints came from yard work. Just over 10K steps and lots of lifting. We mulched, mowed, trimmed, pulled weeds. You know. The regular spring yard clean up! Maybe flowers next weekend. I unloaded all 40 bags and delivered them to wherever the boss wanted them and he did the spreading. The deck was finished on the weekend of March 1st and none of the trees had their leaves. I imagined how cozy and private it would feel when they did. Now May 1, we are surrounded by full trees and I am so happy out here. Before the yard work began yesterday, we had a pretty relaxing morning that included lots of coffee and eventually food. I was going through the freezer deciding what we would be eating for the next couple of days and found a box of spinach. I only buy that for a recipe and […]
Paint Therapy
After my Friday morning workshops I headed over to Effie with an idea and a paint brush. I’ve always loved to paint. Walls. Canvas. I have so many little paintings on canvas stashed away in a closet where I’d spent an afternoon playing with different colors and brushes. I’ve always found it to be extremely therapeutic. And…..it’s just paint. I know if I paint a wall and hate it, I can always paint it again. I’ve had several ideas that did not go well at all, and others ideas that evolved as I was painting that I was super pleased with. I just enjoy the time spent painting. It becomes the focus and any troubles or worries seem to fade in that moment. That backsplash behind me? I’ve never liked it. Someone painted it I would imagine in an attempt to match the vintage sink and stove, but to me […]
Feel It on the First May 2020
I did not do a “Feel it on the First” post April 1. I was finding it difficult to post my monthly reminder in the middle of a pandemic. I can’t imagine someone discovering a lump and then be diagnosed with cancer while also possibly dealing with the loss of a job or trying to homeschool their children or worrying about their family and friends health or working on the front lines. It just seemed like too much to ask of someone. Posting that reminder sounded like more stress than anyone should have to deal with. But today I thought to myself, life does go on and we still need to be taking care of ourselves. We have to continue to feel for any lumps, bumps, dimples or changes in skin color. Right now, more than ever, we need to be taking care of ourselves. I would hate for anyone […]
Steps and More Effie Stories
Yesterday I coached my Workshop from my deck. It was beautiful outside and early enough in the day that I couldn’t hear any kids or dogs, so working from home had a whole new meaning yesterday. I’m thinking about some Effie Workshops. Some of the Kansas campgrounds will be opening soon and that feels like a safe and fun thing to do. Who knew I’d one day be combining two loves of mine, coaching workshops and camping! I spent some time at my dads house working on my trailer. I still have several small things that I would like to do, and it’s a great way to occupy my time. I don’t want to bore you with Effie stories everyday, but I’ve been spending a lot of time over there playing. I have been mulling over ideas to make the dinette area comfortable to sit in while also having the […]
