July 4th 2020

I decided sometime Wednesday or Thursday to take my girlfriends offer to camp on her family farm over the 4th. Mike is knee deep in cabinet assembly in the garage, our friends that host an annual July 4th get together cancelled due to the rise in coronavirus cases, so I decided this was a perfect weekend to venture out by myself and check out my friends farm. I picked up Effie after work on Thursday and parked her in front of my house so I could pack up and leave after my Friday morning workshops. I remember as a kid hearing stories of my friends family farm. She is one of eight kids, and most holidays they spent at the farm. A few years ago, she decided to build a barn on the property and turn that barn into living quarters. I’ve seen some great pictures, but I was really […]

Feel It On the First – July 2020

Well this absolutely fabulous year is half way over. How the heck it’s July 1st, I have no idea. I keep thinking about that Vision Board party that I went to in December, then the one I went to in January and all the excitement I felt going into 2020. The Chiefs winning the Super Bowl had really set the tone for a kick ass year. Well, here we are. Not quite so kick ass. I’m doing my best to keep my chin up and encouraging others to do the same. Self care has been a big part of maintaining a positive attitude. Today I am reminding every person that I can to do your monthly self breast exam. Men too. One of the best things that we can do for ourselves right now is to make our health a priority, and that includes a self breast exam. Three years […]

Do You Track Your Activity?

I wear a FitBit and I’m aware of my steps. I put off getting any kind of a fitness tracker for a long time because honestly, I didn’t want a reminder at the end of the day of what I didn’t do if I didn’t get any activity in. Well, I finally caved and bought a FitBit (like…a long time ago). What I liked and what surprised me is just how many steps I was getting in on just a regular old day. Add in an intentional walk and BOOM, 10K-12K! I’ve now come to really appreciate that little buzz it makes to get up off of my tush and move. You can sync a variety of fitness trackers to your WW App and set an activity goal for yourself. If you don’t have a fitness tracker, you can track your activity manually. I have not paid much attention to […]

Bugs and Other Stuff

Bugs and dirt and all the outside activity we could get in! It was so fun having two of our grand daughters spend the weekend with us. We haven’t seen these two in a long time and it was nice to feel their sweet hugs, bugs and dirt included. First a little catching up on other stuff. Just when I think I have adapted to a new routine, I don’t. You know, like daily blogging? Ugh. It was a rather crazy week last week. We opened over 400 WW Studios around the country for Drop & Shop Hours on Wednesday and Thursday and Limited Availability Workshops on Saturday. You can now attend a Workshop in select Studios by booking a spot through your WW App! I worked the Drop & Shop on Thursday and I got to see real live WW Members at our Merriam, Kansas Studio! It was so […]

Father’s Day 2020

We had family over this weekend and it was wonderful!! I was so wrapped up in seeing everyone and interacting and having conversations that I have very few pictures of any of it, which really tells me I was fully in the moment and that makes me happy. I did however snap a couple of pictures of Mike enjoying his Father’s Day afternoon. It’s always something around here. The ice maker went caput and then Mike stole mowing from me Sunday. Saturday night our son Jake, his wife and daughter, along with our daughter Anne and her husband and kids came over for burgers and dogs. Sunday morning my in-laws came over for coffee and donuts on the deck. This was the first time they have been to our house in months so they had not seen the screened in deck and it was so nice to have a shaded […]

Long Summer Days

I am loving how early the sun rises and how late it sets. It allows more daylight for that outside walk either early in the morning or later after dinner when it’s cooler outside. I feel like these longer days allow me to accomplish all that I want to accomplish while also getting in a little “do absolutely nothing” time. There’s just something to be said about more daylight. When I roll over and see the light sky before I really want to get up, I get up anyway and come out to the deck. It’s so peaceful and cool that early in the morning. Good thinking time, and let’s be real, there’s a lot to think about right now. I’m having all sorts of trouble loading pics to the blog these last two days so I’m behind. Today, no time for story telling, just my salad craze this week […]

Salads and the Garage

That’s right. Lots of salad eating planned here this week and Mike is on cloud nine with the progress of the garage. Yesterday the Epoxy crew came and were here all day long. The floor had to be sanded and prepped, then they tossed some specks all over that basically look like confetti. Today they will be back to put the clear finish on it. Friday we (and by we I mean Mike) can unload the trailer that is parked in the driveway and put everything back in the garage. Now Mike is building cabinets for the garage. I’m not sure what to expect, but I love when he gets super involved in a project. Me? I’m just making salads and taking hot walks. After my hot walk yesterday, I really wanted something cold to eat. I put together a yummy bowl using Almond Milk, Protein Powder, frozen Blueberries, frozen […]

A Little Planning & Prep

After dinner Mocktail of Coconut LaCroix with a splash of Pineapple Juice. Refreshing! Sunday was a morning of relaxing with more coffee than I needed and an afternoon of laundry, meal planning, grocery shopping and a little prep. When Mike said he was going out to mow, I pretended like I forgot I’d reclaimed that job. It was HOT out and I was happy to have him mow while I focused on meal planning. I thought of a few salads we’ve had in the past that we both really liked and a few things to grill that we really like. On the menu this week…. Asian Chicken Salad, Chopped Salad, Marinated Flank Steak Salad , Skinny Taste Salmon Kabobs for me and Chicken Kabobs for Mike. This will likely get us through the weekend. Breakfast and lunch is typically eggs, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit. Hummus and Veggies seem to be a […]

Open Ears, Mind & Heart

It’s Sunday morning and I’m curled up in one of my happy spots, on the deck with coffee. I don’t pretend ever to be an expert on anything other than my own life experience, and sometimes I’m not even an expert at that. I am embarrassed at how little I know about topics that I should be more informed about, including history, politics and world events. But I’m always open to learning, growing, having conversations and sharing my experiences with others. I sometimes don’t speak up because I feel I don’t have the knowledge to back up what I’m saying. I’m usually speaking from the heart without having the information to back up any facts. I’m working on this as well. We all have opportunities for growth. Over the last few weeks I’ve done a lot of thinking, reading, listening and learning. While I’ve read so many great great things […]

Camp Season 2020

I finally made it to a campground this past weekend and I am SO happy that I made the decision to add A/C to my little Effie. She cooled down within minutes of turning her on and it was a hot hot weekend! I took my grand daughter Amiyah with me and although she is only 10 years old, it felt like I took a girlfriend with me. She spent the night at our house Thursday night and we headed over to my dads house Friday morning to follow my dad and stepmom for our 150 mile drive east into Missouri. I camped at this same campground last year and I remembered that crossing the Missouri river was absolutely gorgeous! I was excited to have someone with me in the car to share the drive with. She seemed to enjoy it just as much as I did! The picture doesn’t […]
